ShopRite of Medford Unveils Limited-Edition Cheerios Box Featuring Store Associates Fighting Hunger By Joyce Blay

MEDFORDâWhat's arguably better than being honored on a box of Wheaties? If you work at the contest-winning supermarket ShopRite of Medford, it is: having your face featured on the back of 150,000 boxes of Cheerios. A limited-edition series of Cheerios boxes will be available for sale at area ShopRite supermarkets throughout the remainder of this month and will feature the faces of three newlyfamous ShopRite of Medford employees: parttime cashier Andrea Boyle of Medford Lakes; ShopRite from Home Manager Kimberly Dean of Tabernacle; and Courtesy Manager Heather Lordi of Southampton. Boyle, a single mother of three, convinced customers to round up the cost of their purchase to the next highest dollar amount, with the balance received going to a Partners In Caring fund drive. âAs a first-year ShopRite employee, I was excited to participate in Partners In Caring to
help others,â she said. âI truly believe that this is the best cause that anyone in our community can contribute to because the money raised goes to many organizations to support so many people in need.â Dean collected prizes for a store silent auction, often on her own time. She praised ShopRite customers, as well as local businesses that contributed. âI have never been turned down when asking for a donation for our silent auction,â she said. âIn fact, 99 percent of the businesses I ask for support give me a donation on the spot.â Lordi was the numbers cruncher for the charitable operation. Thanks to her drive and persistence in keeping the Medford ShopRite team on track, the store exceeded its fundraising goal of $50,000 to raise nearly $54,000. She attributed the storeâs success as much to its customers as its dedicated employees. âOur customers are really greatâ she said. âMedford is a very giving community. We wouldnât be as successful without them.â
The store not only surpassed its target goal of raising $50,000, it also increased donations over a previous-year record of about $40,000. ShopRite of Medford was not just a prime mover in generating charitable donations in 2016 and in 2017, but also in 2015, making the store a three-peat for the third consecutive year. âThese three associates went above and beyond to make our Partners In Caring fundraising campaign a success, and we are thrilled to recognize their efforts publicly by featuring them on the Cheerios box,â said David Zallie, owner of ShopRite of Medford. âAndrea, Kim and Heather each had a strong commitment to our ultimate goal of fighting hunger in South Jersey. I know many of our neighbors will benefit from their efforts.â Since 2006, David and Renee Zallie have owned and operated the ShopRite at 208 Route 70 West in Medford. The Zallies also own and operate ShopRite supermarkets in Gibbstown and Lawnside. ShopRite of Lawnside employees are
also winners: Sydnee King of Lawnside and Adienne Olah of Medford are featured on the limited-edition Cheerios boxes, too. The Zalliesâ passion to service and community is shared by all their employees, as well as those working at more than 270 ShopRite supermarkets that participated in last Septemberâs challenge. September is National Hunger Action Month. Funds received from the annual drive are channeled to the ShopRite Partners In Caring program, a hunger-fighting initiative that gives support to more than 2,200 charities. Since its founding, Partners In Caring has donated more than $44 million to soup kitchens, food pantries, homeless shelters, senior-citizen centers and other organizations that are on the front lines of fighting hunger. As the winner of last yearâs fundraising drive, ShopRite of Medford received the additional honor of selecting three employees to be featured on a limited-edition Cheerios
