WASHINGTON–The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJ DEP) is interested in purchasing the Green Bank School. The information concerning a possible buyer was revealed at a Dec. 13 Washington Township Committee meeting. “I understand that they (Washington Township School District officials) have been meeting with the NJ DEP,” said Washington Committeeman Barry F. Cavileer. “Also, that they are bringing in an appraiser to appraise the building as is the NJ DEP.” Cavileer said that the district is trying to sell the building to the NJ DEP. A source with direct knowledge of the negotiations told the Pine Barrens Tribune that the parties have not entered into a legal agreement. However, the source confirmed that the NJ DEP has looked at the building and said it was the “worst kept secret” in town. Karen Gfroehrer, business administrator and board secretary for the Washington Township School District, said that the town’s board of education recently approved an appraisal to obtain a property value for the Green Bank School. However, she could not elaborate further on the matter. “Legally, I can’t confirm sale information,” Gfroehrer said.
WASHINGTON– Three separate accidents involving motorcycles in the Penn State Forest, all of which coincided with a November weekend motorcycle tour through the Pinelands, have caught the attention of the Washington Township Committee. One accident killed a rider. The committee was notified in advance by Pinelands Adventure Camp that an Adventure Ride/Eco Tour involving motorcycles was scheduled to run through parts of the township on Nov. 11, 12 and 13. “We send a map of the tour route five months ahead of time to the N.J. Department of Environmental Protection, Washington, Woodland, Tabernacle, and Mullica,” said Jack O’Connor, director of the Pinelands Adventure Camp. The township requires that any organizer of a motorcycle race, rally, tour, or similar function on any street, park or other public place which falls under township jurisdiction obtain a parade permit from the committee. The PHOTO BY TOM WALKER committee unanimously granted a permit to the organization on Oct. 4.
