ROBBINSVILLE—Two policemen, including one who resides in Woodland Township, have brought holiday cheer to a Robbinsville man battling cancer, sending a message that no one has to fight the disease alone. Ptl. Edward Vincent and Det. Wayne Haugh of the Robbinsville Township Police Department in Mercer County wanted to do something special this holiday season on behalf of their co-worker Joe Barker, Robbinsville’s recreation director. Barker, beloved by PBA Local #344, of which the two officers are a part of, was

diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2014. He began working for Robbinsville Township in 2011. “Joe Barker is not only a dear friend, but he is a true force of nature who has elevated our Recreation Division to heights never before seen,” said Robbinsville Mayor Dave Fried. “He is larger than life and someone you are drawn to immediately upon meeting him.” Since receiving the diagnosis, Barker, 55, has been on a quest to raise money for the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York to benefit cancer research. The two officers, Vincent from Woodland,

and Haugh from Bricktown, began exploring “No-Shave November” earlier this year to help Barker reach his goal. “The idea to donate to Sloan Kettering in the name of Joe Barker was easy,” Vincent said. “He is one of the nicest human beings I have ever met and he deserves much more than we could ever do.” No-Shave November is a month-long journey during which participants across the globe forgo shaving in order to evoke conversation and raise cancer awareness. The rules of No-Shave November require participants to put down their razor for 30 days

expenses to a cancer-research cause. Now promoted by the non-profit organizations Movember Foundation and No-Shave November Foundation, the initiative—which has become a November tradition for many across the globe—was started in 2003 by two friends, Travis Garone and Luke Slattery under the slogan “Movember.” Garone and Slattery, who met in a bar in Melbourne, Australia, got together with 30 of their close friends and each grew a mustache for the month of November to help raise awareness
