BANKS RESIGNS Pinelands Regional’s Embattled Superintendent Bows Out for ‘Medical Reasons’ Amid Construction Scandal By Catherine Galioto and Douglas D. Melegari Team Coverage
LITTLE EGG HARBOR—Dr. Maryann Banks, who has served as the interim superintendent of the Pinelands Regional School District for one and a half years, resigned last week. Banks, who purportedly resigned for “medical reasons,” has been embroiled in a construction project debacle since the beginning of September that has turned into a scandal with numerous parents and community members demanding an independent investigation. Banks joined the district on July 1, 2016, replacing Robert Blake, who had resigned. The Pinelands Regional Board of Education first offered Banks a one-year contract. Her contract was extended by the board to June 30, 2018 earlier this year. State law prohibits a retired superintendent from serving as an
