PEMBERTON—As one of the U.S. Army Reserve’s newest brigadier generals, Jonathan C. Moyer now has the singular distinction of having been assigned a key role in the ongoing attempt to stabilize one of the most volatile areas of the globe. But if you ask him how that came about,
you soon realize that he gives much of the credit to the place where he grew up. “I am living proof of Pemberton Township High School’s motto, ‘You can get there from here’,” is how he puts it. In Moyer’s case, “here” refers to his youth as a resident of Pemberton Township’s Sunbury Village, with “there” signifying the momentous responsibility he has suddenly been handed—that
of leading the 335th Signal Command in Arifjan, Kuwait, which currently oversees all of the strategic and tactical communications under the purview of Central Command (CENTCOM), encompassing the joint and coalition forces stationed over a wide area of the Middle East that includes Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, See CENTCOM/ Page 7
MEDFORD—A redevelopment plan proposing an “inclusionary affordable housing development” with a total of 380 units for the portion of Flying W Airport & Resort that falls within Medford Township, comprising of four different lots, has been approved 4-0 by Medford Township Council on April 6, after it was referred on March 24 to the governing body by the Medford Township Planning Board for such action. The airport would essentially cease to exist should the plan be implemented; this newspaper confirmed this week. Medford Council approval was given de spit e s everal que stions that went unanswered during an April 6 public hearing held by the governing body on the Medford redevelopment plan, a pilot offering testimony during that hearing calling the Medford planner’s conclusions indicating that the airport was “an area in need of redevelopment” “questionable” and “inaccurate” given his own observations, apparent discrepancies by officials in the timeline of when the township was first approached by the ownership of the airport seeking such a declaration, concerns expressed by the public about increased traffic resulting from the project and a lack of connectivity of the site to other municipal See AIRPORT/ Page 6
