Southampton Agrees to Enter into EMS Services Contract
April 1-7, 2017
Stakeholders Come Together to Battle Substance Abuse
By Douglas D. Melegari Staff Writer
SOUTHAMPTON—The Southampton Township Committee has given the green light for the municipality to enter into a new contract with the Hampton Lakes Emergency Medical Squad (EMS) for ambulance services. A contract between Southampton Township and the Hampton Lakes EMS expired on Dec. 31. The committee voted 5-0 to enter into the new contract during their March 20 meeting. The Pine Barrens Tribune obtained a copy of the agreement authorized by the committee through an Open Public Records Act request. The township has forwarded the contract to the squad for execution. “The contract is still being circulated for signatures,” said Township Solicitor George M. Morris. “So, it is not fully executed yet, but should be within the next two weeks.” According to the terms of the contract approved by the committee, Hampton Lakes EMS will be authorized to continue to provide basic life-support emergency medical services to the residents, workers and visitors of the township 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The organization will be responsible for supplying all personnel, equipment, vehicles and supplies necessary to provide the services PHOTO BY TOM WALKER without regard to a patient’s ability to pay.
