Public Safety Director’s Resignation Leaves Tabernacle With a Vacant Post and an Unresolved Contract Dispute By Mark Hatoff

TABERNACLE—Arch Liston’s tenure as Tabernacle Township’s first public safety director appears to be over after just seven months, the past three of which he has spent mired in still unresolved contract negotiations with the Tabernacle Rescue Squad (TRS). The Tabernacle Township Committee, in an executive session following its regular meeting on Dec. 27, voted 3-1 to accept the beleaguered law-enforcement and municipal-administration veteran’s resignation, which had been submitted the day before. Committeeman Joseph Yates IV was the lone dissenter, with affirmative votes cast by Mayor Joseph Barton, Committeewoman Kimberly Brown and retiring Committeeman Richard Franzen. Liston was not in attendance at the regular committee meeting, nor was Deputy Mayor Stephen Lee IV. Lee, along with Yates, had led a review of candidates for the public safety director position that resulted in Liston’s hiring by a unanimous vote at a special committee meeting on June 4, 2018.
