“Changeling X” DVD-Restoration and 4K-Upscale
The approach of this project is basically to extract the source elements from the DVDs, then do a “clean-up” of the material (which involves software-based deinterlacing and filtering designed to improve the visual quality as much as possible), then adjust the video stream to achieve a (mostly) stable 23,976 FPS followed by a multiple-instance AI-based upscale to 4K resolution at the original 4:3 aspect ratio (cropped left and right to avoid black bars). The audio tracks include both English and German audio at AC3 5.1 encoding – since this project works off the PAL DVDs both tracks have been pitch adjusted (or slowed down) to adjust for the PAL-speedup to 25 FPS (pitch shift, so voices sound higher in the European version), so it will perfectly sync up with the new 23,976 FPS video and sound right.
