Summer 2023

CINDY L. SiLLS, BROKER/OWNER HELPING BUYERS & SELLERS SINCE 1999 150 N. Main Street | Florence, AZ 85132 520-868-3520

My name is Paul King. I am thrilled to join the Town of Florence as your Community Services Department Director. I am excited to work with our town leadership, employees, community members, business owners and stakeholders to keep Florence a fantastic place to live, work and play. This summer is a great time to play in Florence! There are so many free and low-cost programs to keep the whole family enjoying life in Florence. This seasonal activity guide is filled with opportunities that help to improve quality of life for the Florence Community. I have picked only a few facilities and programs to highlight in this letter, but there are many more offerings that will appeal to you, your family, friends and neighbors.

With the school year ending soon, don’t miss out on library activities and programs for all ages. Our Recreation division is working with the Missoula Children’s Theatre providing an exciting performing arts opportunity for ages 6-17. This is the perfect opportunity to introduce your grade schooler or teen to stage performing. Auditions will be held June 5th. Find more information on page 26 of this activity guide.

Prevent the kids from getting bored this summer! Take a look at the REC Club Summer Intersession program at the Viney Jones Library

Announcement:

and Community Center. This program has a variety of fun classes, activities, and games to keep your child happily engaged throughout the summer.

Be sure to visit the Aquatic Center when the heat arrives this summer! Take advantage of the open swim program beginning May 27th, but register early for swimming lessons either online, by phone or walk-in. As always, our friendly team members are happy to help you select the correct class for your child. Looking to be a future lifeguard? Teens ages 13-15 can register for the Jr. lifeguard program.

Come help us celebrate with the July 4th Pool Party, followed by the July 4th Freedom Fest featuring live music, games and activities, beer garden and of course fireworks at the Aquatic Center Multi-Purpose Fields.

Even though it heats up in the desert this time of year, there are lots of opportunities for outdoor fun. Whether you are splashing in the pool to cool off, picnicking in the shade in one of our three great parks or taking an early morning hike at Poston Butte preserve, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

As we dive into summer, make it a memorable one with your family and friends through the town amenities, parks and program experiences available to everyone.

Show Synopsis:

Missoula Children’s Theatre presents BEAUTY LOU AND THE COUNTRY BEAST, an original country western adaptation of the classic fairy tale BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. Beauty Lou is the oldest daughter of the bronc-bustin’ balladeer Buck. At the local county fair, young Beauty Lou is upset by the ungrateful behavior of a miner who has won the blue ribbon for his beautiful roses. She calls him a beast and wishes that he would look like one too. Years later, when in danger of losing the family farm, Buck meets the miner-turned-beast. Beauty Lou agrees to befriend the Beast to save her family. Beauty Lou and the Beast both learn to look beyond appearances and first impressions and to see the beauty that dwells inside. The story, set in the American West, also features Beauty Lou’s six sisters, her Imaginary Friend, her dog Fleabite Clyde, farmhands Slim and Dusty, the neighborly Country Folk and the Barnyard Critters
