Casa Grande is an innovative, progressive city of more than 70,000 residents, located in the center of the golden corridor, a 45-minute drive to Phoenix and an hour to Tucson, where you can veer off “the beaten path” of big cities to enjoy the small-town experience. For those seeking a central spot to Park It!, Love It! or Live It! while visiting the many unique attractions, venues and scenic vistas here and throughout Pinal County, Casa Grande is the ideal place.
In Casa Grande, you can experience one or all of our signature community events and a wide variety of shopping and dining options, historic sites, golf, movies, events, museums, community theatre, art, performances, recreational activities, concerts, agricultural tours of working farms, murals and unique historic downtown district.
Stroll through Casa Grande Main Street – stewards of the Neon Sign Park. Explore the historical downtown commercial district of Casa Grande; stop at some locally owned, unique restaurants and visit creative shops and businesses. New public art features and spaces that both display and celebrate Casa Grande’s history are coming to life every year, including the multiple award-winning Casa Grande Neon Sign Park , 408 N. Sacaton St. in historic downtown which is populated by neon signs, plaques and pedestals, and enjoy Casa Grande’s sign history that uniquely tells the “story of us”.
Visit neonsignpark.com for more information about the Casa Grande Neon Sign Park.
Heritage Hall was built in 1927 and is one of Casa Grande’s oldest buildings.
Next to the Neon Sign Park, stroll around the new, imaginative, neon windmill/ crop duster/cattle public art piece and explore the Windmill Roadside Attraction - featuring historic windmill, a neon-accented crop duster, and a metal art installation honoring Casa Grande’s rich agricultural heritage. The Museum of Casa Grande, at 110 W. Florence Blvd., is open from mid-September to mid-May each year. Housed in the iconic unique rock “church” building the museum holds more than 16,000 artifacts and over 22,000 archival photographs and documents which are available for research by appointment. Programs and events include school tours, speakers, presentations, re-enactments, workshops, and outreach-education programs.
The Casa Grande Art Museum is located at 319 West Third Street on the corner of Third and Maricopa Streets. Built in 1929 by Gus Kratzka as the family residence, it is on the National Register of Historic Places. The house was purchased and opened as The Casa Grande Art Museum by the Friends of the Arts, Inc., in 1987. The Friends of Arts have lovingly restored the building, funded in part, by grants administrated by the City of Casa Grande. The Sculpture Garden, which surrounds the house, is filled with works by Arizona artists, donated by A. Thomas Cole, founding member of The Friends of the Arts. The museum provides local residents and visitors with the opportunity to enjoy a diverse selection of quality art in a setting that is conducive to its viewing.
CGUHSD has a long-standing presence in the community and its commitment to preparing students for the future.
Proudly educating generations since 1920, we are more that just a school district, we are a cornerstone of Casa Grande.
From academic achievement to championship athletics, career pathways to community service, our students lead with pride.
Join us in celebrating all that makes CGUHSD a part of the heart of our community.

The Casa Grande Ruins were protected as the nation’s first archaeological reserve beginning in 1892. The site was declared a National Monument in 1918. The park is one of over 20 National Park Service (NPS) sites you can visit in Arizona and one of over 400 NPS sites in the United States.
The Casa Grande (Big House) was built between 1300 and 1400 CE (Current Era). Between 1355 and 1450 CE, the ancestral Sonoran Desert people began to move out of their walled compounds and villages. Archaeologists do not know all the reasons for the dispersal of the people from large walled communities to other areas and smaller communities.
Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, 1100 Ruins Dr., Coolidge, AZ 85128, is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., except for Juneteeth, Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas when the park is closed. The park is fee-free to visit. Annual and senior passes are no longer available for purchase, however, staff is still available to issue the free passes. Special events and activities are held at the park throughout the year.
For additional information, contact the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, (520) 723-3172 or visit nps.gov/cagr

The Hohokams abandoned their settlement in this area (now Casa Grande Ruins National Monument) for reasons that are still being questioned and under archeological theory. The Spanish Conquistadors were most likely the first “outsiders” to visit the area, sometime during the mid-1500s. During this time, the Akimel O’Odham lived along the Gila River. In addition, the Tohono O’Odham and the Maricopa peoples settled nearby.
In 1848, the section of Arizona north of the Gila River was part of the land ceded to the United States by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, ending the Mexican war of 1848. The land south of the Gila River, which includes Pinal County, was acquired in the 1853 Gadsden Purchase.
Casa Grande began as many other towns and cities across the west began. As the Southern Pacific Railroad was being built across Arizona, construction had to stop for a variety of reasons. Each place it stopped was called Terminus until the railroad continued. Each temporary stop was either renamed as a town or abandoned. The Southern Pacific Railroad Company obtained permission to build from the west to the Colorado River at Yuma and the railroad arrived at the river opposite Yuma on May 20, 1877— only to have to halt construction until September 29, when the bridge across the Colorado was finished.
Work resumed in November 1878 and as the railroad progressed across the desert from Yuma. The heat became oppressive but by mid-May 1879, when a point was reached about where the present town of Casa Grande is now located and work was stopped here until January 24,1880. That temporary stop was called “Terminus.” In September 1880, executives of the Southern Pacific Railroad renamed the town after the prehistoric Hohokam Indian structure (Great House) and ruins located 20 miles to the east. The Casa Grande Post Office was established September 10, 1881.
Three separate fires, each decimating the business district, and a national mining slump, almost killed the town during the 1890s. However, the hard work, vision and entrepreneurial efforts of local residents, as well as small-scale agriculture, farm trade and livestock revived the economy and became important economic drivers for Casa Grande and Pinal County.
The City of Casa Grande was incorporated in 1915.
