Pianist Yu Xi Wang is Director of Keyboard Studies at the Curtis Institute of Music and serves as the Piano Program Director at the Philadelphia International Music Festival, where she teaches each summer. She also teaches piano at the University of Pennsylvania.
As an in-demand pedagogue, Yu Xi has given masterclasses, workshops, and lectures at regional schools, colleges, and the local MTNA chapter. Prior to her appointment at Curtis, she has taught piano, chamber music, solfège, music theory, and keyboard harmony at a number of prestigious institutions such as The Juilliard School, Music Institute of Chicago, and Settlement Music School. Yu Xi’s private piano students have taken top prizes in competitions and have gone on to study at The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, and Oberlin Conservatory.
As a performer, Yu Xi made her Carnegie Hall recital debut in 2002 as the winner of Artist International. Since then, she released a CD under the Chinese label JSCP, and maintains an active performing career both as a soloist and chamber musician throughout North America and Asia.
A native of Beijing, China, Yu Xi started piano at age 3 under her mother, a pianist and renowned pedagogue of electone. She made her debut with the China Women’s Philharmonic at age 10 and soon enrolled in the Central Conservatory of Music studying with Hui-Su Chen. After moving to the United States, Yu Xi attended the Juilliard PreCollege Division under the tutelage of Herbert Stessin and holds her B.M., M.M., and D.M.A from The Juilliard School where she studied with Jerome Lowenthal and Julian Martin and chamber music faculty members Constance Moore and Jonathan Feldman.
Yu Xi resides in Philadelphia with her family.

Hsin-Wei Tsai is a pianist and educator currently on the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music, where she teaches Keyboard Studies and Secondary Piano. She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Piano Performance from the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna and a Master’s degree in Collaborative Piano and Chamber Music from Temple University.
An active performer, Hsin-Wei has collaborated with musicians across various ensembles and regularly appears in chamber music concerts throughout the Greater Philadelphia area. She serves as a collaborative pianist for the PMAY Artists’ Initiative and was a planner and performer for the Taiwanese American Conference East Coast memorial concert. Her diverse performance experience includes solo appearances, chamber music, opera coaching, and premieres of contemporary works, such as En Sof by Austrian composer Daniel Oliver Moser. She has also performed at notable events, including the opening ceremony of the Kaohsiung Museum and music salons at the National Taichung Theater.
As an educator, Hsin-Wei has taught in music schools in Vienna, Taiwan, and Philadelphia, sharing her passion for piano with students of all levels. During her time in Taiwan, she specialized in preparing students for university entrance exams in piano performance, helping them develop strong technical and musical skills to succeed in competitive auditions. Her teaching philosophy is shaped by her extensive training with renowned teachers such as Dr. Charles Abramovic, Dr. Sara Davis Buechner, Lambert Orkis, Claus-Christian Schuster, and Johannes Kropfitsch.
Based in Philadelphia since 2022, she actively contributes to the city’s vibrant musical scene through both performance and teaching, bringing her international experience and artistic insight to students and audiences alike.

Philadelphia International Music Festival – Italy (July 28 – August 7, 2025) is designed for string musicians and pianists 13-19 years of age preparing for upcoming solo performances and competitions. This exciting new program will include: three private lessons, daily 30-minute workout sessions with an assigned faculty accompanist, daily hour-long solo performance classes, five hours of required daily private practice, and a week-ending Grand Finale Recital in one of the stunning performance halls in Cremona.
Students and families will both reside in Cremona, Italy, enjoying authentic Italian-style meals throughout the week-long program. While students are in training, guests attending the “Family & Friends” program will tour the surrounding towns via Luxury Motorcoach. Destinations include Venice, Milan, Verona, Lake Garda, Bologna and Parma! Students will join the traveling adventures at the conclusion of the Grand Finale performance on August 4th, 2025.
