Madison Marcucci Day, a graduate of The Juilliard School, made her solo debut with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra at the age of 11. She has performed as soloist with the PIMF Chamber Orchestra, Temple Music Prep’s Youth Chamber Orchestra, the Manalapan Battleground Symphony, the PBU Orchestra, the Ocean City Pops Orchestra, the Warminster Symphony, Ambler Symphony, and the Lower Merion Symphony.
Madison currently serves as Concertmaster of the New Jersey Chamber Orchestra. As an orchestral musician, she has performed with The Philadelphia Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Opera Philadelphia, the Kansas City Symphony, the Baltimore Symphony, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, and has also served as Concertmaster of the Mansfield and Lower Merion Symphonies.
Madison recently spent time working closely with Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg as an Artist-inResidence at Loyola University. She is a Starling Scholar, a selected participant of the Juilliard School’s Gluck Community Fellowship program, and a recipient of the Braverman String Quartet Scholarship.
She currently serves as Assistant Artistic Director of the Philadelphia International Music Festival.
A native of Philadelphia, violist Marvin Moon came to The Philadelphia Orchestra in 2007 from the Boston Symphony, which he joined at the start of the 2005-06 season. Mr. Moon previously performed for several years as a substitute player with The Philadelphia Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. From 2000 to 2003 he was principal viola of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. He was also previously a member of the Haddonfield Symphony (now Symphony in C), the New York String Seminar Chamber Orchestra, and the Curtis Symphony, serving as principal viola in 2000.
As a chamber musician Mr. Moon has been a member of the Koryo String Quartet since 2001. He has participated in such festivals as Music from Angel Fire (NM), Summerfest at La Jolla (CA), the Fourth International Chamber Music Encounters in Jerusalem, the K neisel Hall Chamber Music Festival (ME), and the Sarasota Chamber Music Festival.
As a soloist Mr. Moon gave the world premiere of James Ra’s Concertino with the Curtis Chamber Ensemble, played Bartók’s Viola Concerto with the Temple University Symphony, and was viola soloist in Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante for violin and viola with bo th the New Jersey Symphony, under Vladimir Spivakov, and the Kennett Square (PA) Symphony.
Mr. Moon attended the Temple University Music Preparatory Division and the Curtis Institute of Music. He studied with Joseph dePasquale, former principal viola of The Philadelphia

John Koen has been a member of The Philadelphia Orchestra since 1990. He was promoted to Acting Assistant Principal and then Acting Associate Principal Cello from 2011 to 2016. He graduated from The Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with David Soyer and Peter Wiley of the Guarneri Quartet. He has collaborated in chamber music with Emanuel Ax, Joshua Bell, Christoph Eschenbach, Stephen Hough, Lang Lang, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and many others.
Mr. Koen became the Music Director of the Philadelphia Chamber Ensemble in 2022. He performs as a recitalist and as a soloist with orchestras across America as well as in Europe. He has given master classes in universities from Seoul to Sofia and has been artist faculty at Temple University since 2006.
His recording of "Seven Mad Gods" by Robert Maggio was nominated for GLAAMA’s "Best Instrumental Performance.” He received the C. Hartman Kuhn award from The Philadelphia Orchestra for “a musician who has shown both musical ability and enterprise of such character as to enhance the musical standards and reputation of The Philadelphia Orchestra.”
His interests include reading, languages, traveling, food and health, technology, and playing with his two cats.
In 2004 Mr. Koen received The Philadelphia Orchestra’s C. Hartman Kuhn Award, given to “a musician who has shown both musical ability and enterprise of such character as to enhance the musical standards and reputation of The Philadelphia Orchestra.”
GRAMMY Award winning pianist Mark Livshits is one of the most highly sought after soloists and chamber musicians in Philadelphia. He appears frequently in concert with members of the Philadelphia Orchestra, as well as with the orchestra as a substitute in the keyboard
In addition to performances at the Salzburg Festival, solo recitals at the Shanghai Oriental Arts Center, and Bilbao Philharmonic Society, Dr. Livshits has also worked closely with musicians such as Yannick Nezet Seguin, Stephane Denève, Michael Tilson Thomas, Nikolaj Znaider, Nathalie Stutzman, Leonidas Kovakos, Gil Shaham, Lynn Harrell, Midori, Christoph Eschenbach, Alisa Weilerstein, Measha Brueggergosman, Daniel Lozakovich, Dave Brubeck, Nick Canellakis and Deutsche Grammophon recording artist, YeEun Choi under the auspices of IMG Artists and the AnneSophie Mutter Foundation.

In 2015, he was called to replace Yannick NezetSeguin in a chamber music performance of Brahms Third Quartet for Piano and Strings with members from the Philadelphia Orchestra and has been invited to perform in chamber programs with members of the orchestra since then. He is often called to play orchestral piano in the orchestra as well. D r. Livshits has received invitations to perform for dignitaries such as Secretary of State Colin Powell and President Joe Biden.
Dr. Livshits currently serves on faculty at the Curtis Institute of Music and is on faculty as the head of collaborative piano at the University of Delaware. He also serves on the faculty at the Philadelphia International Music Festival.

Mayu Kanai, 17, began studying piano at age four. She has studied piano with Irina Morozova since the 3rd grade and is currently an 11th grader at the Special Music School High School at Kaufman Music Center in New York City.
Mayu has performed at venues including Merkin Concert Hall, Stiefel Hall, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall, and the Břevnov Monastery. She has won top prizes in several competitions, including the PIMF Concerto Competition, 6th Franz Liszt Center International Piano Competition, Heddy Killian Competition, NYICMC, Night in Madrid (Spain), the Great Composers Series (Schumann and Liszt), the Symphony of Westchester’s Tenth Annual Young Artist Competition, Thousand Islands International Piano Competition, and the Kaufman Music Center Concerto Competition. She was also recognized as a finalist in the Young Musicians’ Concert for the Chamber Music Society. She has participated in festivals such as the Philadelphia International Music Festival, Prague Piano Festival, the Mannes Piano Festival (with a half-tuition merit scholarship), and Chamber Fest. In addition, she took part in the Art of Collaboration Workshop at the North Shore Chamber Music Festival. Mayu has participated in masterclasses with distinguished artists, including the Harlem Quartet, Mark Livshits, Svetlana Smolina, Mikhail Voskresensky, Svetozar Ivanov, Aaron Diehl, David Kalhous, Ekaterina Melkamini, Emanuel Krasovsky, and Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń. She was also featured in an interview with Simone Dinnerstein on WQXR. Mayu has been active as a collaborative pianist as well, accompanying vocalists, chamber ensembles, and instrumentalists for competitions and performances, as well as for several Kaufman Music Center fundraisers and events.

Philadelphia International Music Festival – Italy (August 4–August 14, 2026) is designed for string musicians and pianists 13-19 years of age preparing for upcoming solo performances and competitions. This exciting new program will include: three private lessons, daily 30-minute workout sessions with an assigned faculty accompanist, daily hour-long solo performance classes, five hours of required daily private practice, and a week-ending Grand Finale Recital in one of the stunning performance halls in Cremona.
Students and families will both reside in Cremona, Italy, enjoying authentic Italian-style meals throughout the week-long program. While students are in training, guests attending the “Family & Friends” program will tour the surrounding towns via Luxury Motorcoach. Destinations include Milan, Verona, Brescia, Florence, Genoa, and Sirmione! Students will join the traveling adventures at the conclusion of the Grand Finale performance on August 11th, 2026

MIAMI, FL (DECEMBER 28, 2026–JANUARY 2, 2027) ― One of PIMF’s most popular programs EVER is the winter break intensive for strings at Miami’s beautiful Casa Tranquilla estate. Designed for advanced string players 13-19 years of age preparing for upcoming solo performances and competitions, this unique mini-camp gathers twenty-five talented young musicians to rev up their skills and start the new year on a high note.
Days are packed with a laser focus on skill building and technique refinement, while the evenings are opportunities to perform and be challenged in Master Classes. This program includes: four private lessons, daily 30-minute workout sessions with assigned faculty accompanists, daily hourlong solo performance classes, five hours of required daily private practice, and a week-ending Grand Finale Recital.
The mansion offers indoor and outdoor spaces for private lessons and studio classes with faculty that include Kimberly Fisher (Principal Second Violin, The Philadelphia Orchestra), Richard Amoroso (violin, The Philadelphia Orchestra), and John Koen (cello, The Philadelphia Orchestra), as well as daily workouts and coaching sessions with piano accompanists.
And throughout, a spectacular gourmet menu, complete with daily High Tea prepared by a gourmet chef, in a world of elegance and pampering to elevate young musicians’ entire educational experience. In an entirely new way to study their craft, Music in Mansion surrounds them with beauty and excellence so the only thing they need to focus on is performance.
