Rodrigo Duterte 16th president of the Philippines
The presumptive president of the Republic of the Philippines, Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte, will take his oath as the 16th president of the Philippines on June 30, 2016. Duterte ran a campaign pledging to Filipinos – a population already fraught with both manmade and natural misfortunes in the recent past – that he would get rid of the criminals in the country and clean up the corrupt government. The national and overseas Filipino voter turnout was significantly higher than any previous Philippine presidential election. On May 11, 2016, the Special Board of Canvassers (SBOC) in Ottawa reported that there was a total of 22,738 out of 79,421 registered voters who cast their votes in 81 precincts or a voter turnout of 28.62 per cent.
