MANITOBA – “I was overwhelmed literally with tears of joy when the Lieutenant Governor Janice Filmon called to break the news,” said Dr. Rey Pagtakhan to Pilipino Express. “Memories of a difficult and uncertain future during my growing up years quickly made a flashback.” Dr. Rey, as the community fondly calls him, is one of 12 selected to receive the Order of Manitoba (OM), the province’s highest honour, on July 13 at the Manitoba Legislative Building. He has been chosen for his many contributions to medicine, public service and community leadership. An alumnus of the University of the Philippines, he did postgraduate studies at the Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis and completed his Master of Science in Perinatal Physiology at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. A retired lung specialist from the Children’s Hospital and professor of child health at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Medicine, he is recognized nationally and internationally.
