Four for Manitoba High-profile Filipino-Canadians vie for Legislature seats
MANITOBA – By day’s end on Tuesday, April 19, we shall find out if the voters elect at least three of the Filipino-Canadians seeking seats in the provincial legislature. While there have been quite a number of Filipino-Canadians in the past provincial elections who have got their names on the ballot, this may be the first time in the Filipino community’s history where the Pinoy candidates are all relatively popular among their target constituents. Their celebrity may be attributed to their various high-profile community projects that were publicised not only by traditional media but also by the strength of the respective candidates’ penchant to maximize the use of social media. Four high-profile Pinoy candidates represent the three major parties. Even Pacman’s long-time Hollywood fans, i.e. Jimmy Kimmel, Mark Wahlberg, Sylvester Stallone, Keanu Reeves and other luminaries) were not among the arena crowd of 14,665 who cheered as the two fighters completed their trilogy of fights.
