Welcome Welcome to Spotlight, the newsletter of Rockhampton Venues and Events. Inside, you’ll find a variety of events at the Pilbeam Theatre, Rockhampton Showgrounds and other venues. Tickets for events listed here are on sale through the Pilbeam Theare Box Office, Dial’n’ Charge on 4927 4111 or on line at www.pilbeamtheatre.com.au For showgrounds events contact the organizations listed with the event. FRIENDS OF THE THEATRE If you enjoy the theatre, why not become a Friend of the Theatre?

Friends of the Theatre, whether they volunteer to work or are ‘supporting’ Friends, receive discounts to many of the shows listed in SPOTLIGHT. Friends also receive this newsletter mailed direct to them. For ‘working’ Friends, unlimited seats are available in exchange for Performance Work Vouchers on events in Spotlight bearing the above symbol. For other events, voucher seats are limited to a total of six seats per performance. Further details as well as membership forms are available from the Box Office.

GENERAL INFORMATION Theatre programs start promptly at the advertised start time and latecomers will not be admitted until a suitable break in the performance. Smoking is not allowed in any part of the Pilbeam Theatre or other Council venues. The use of cameras and recording devices during performances is illegal and penalties for infringement of copyright in this way are severe. Please ensure all mobile phones are switched off before entering the auditorium.

Rockhampton Eisteddfod The 76th Rockhampton Eisteddfod will be performed in April / May at the Pilbeam Theatre. Come and see some of the best talent our region has to offer in dance, speech, vocal and instrumental sections.

Soweto Gospel Choir – African Grace The Soweto Gospel Choir was formed to celebrate the unique and inspirational power of African Gospel music. The 52-strong choir, under the direction of Beverly Bryer, draws on the best talent from the many churches in and around Soweto. Expect earthy rhythms, rich harmonies, acapella numbers as well as accompaniment by an exciting 4 piece band and percussion section. Add to this, energetic dancing and vibrant, colourful costumes, and the mix is awesome. This young dynamic choir performs both traditional and contemporary music, adding its own unique feel and interpretation to both.

Ben 10 – Time Machine Something BIG is coming to Rockhampton! Cartoon Network’s BEN 10 LIVE: Time Machine is coming to the Pilbeam Theatre in the July School Holidays.

Everyone’s favourite boy-hero, Ben Tennyson, and his alien superheroes will come to life in BEN 10 LIVE: Time Machine, a new costume show filled with action, stunts and special effects. Rainbow’s End Starring: Christine Anu, Lillian Crombie, Chenoa Deemal Three generations of Koori women, Nan Dear, her feisty daughter Gladys and clever, teenager Dolly, live on the edge of a country town in a shack on the flood prone riverbank. For Nan, even life on ‘the flats’ represents progress of a kind, but Gladys has bigger ambitions for a real house and a real job for Dolly. When Gladys takes on buying the Encyclopedia Britannica from city salesman Errol Fisher to improve Dolly’s chances, their lives take an unexpected and challenging turn.

Set against the Queen’s visit in 1954 with music that evokes the period, this tender, funny, play celebrates the transformative power of learning and the fierce optimism of the women as they struggle for community acceptance in conservative, Menzies era Australia.

Rainbow’s End is a genuine ‘feel good’ night in the theatre. Written with gentle irony and humorous affection by Jane Harrison, the writer of the award winning play Stolen and flawlessly directed by multi award winner and former Rockhampton resident, Craig Ilott. Presented
