FRIENDS OF THE THEATRE If you enjoy the theatre, why not become a Friend of the Theatre? Friends of the Theatre is an organisation where members volunteer to work in various aspects of the theatre such as ushering, bar, candy bar and program selling. Friends receive discounts to many of the shows listed in Spotlight, and also receive this newsletter mailed direct to them. Each time a Friend of the Theatre works they receive a Performance Work Voucher, which is exchanged for tickets to events. Unlimited seats are available in exchange for Performance Work Vouchers on events in Spotlight bearing the blue star symbol. For other events, voucher seats are limited to a total of six seats per performance. Further details as well as membership forms are available from the Box Office.

GENERAL INFORMATION Theatre programs start promptly at the advertised start time and latecomers will not be admitted until a suitable break in the performance. Smoking is not allowed in any part of the Pilbeam Theatre or other Council venues. The use of cameras and recording devices during performances is illegal and penalties for infringement of copyright in this way are severe. Please ensure all mobile phones are switched off before entering the auditorium. Crying or fidgety children can be a distraction to other theatregoers and performers, so if you bring your small child to the theatre, please book an aisle seat in case you need to exit the auditorium.

The Music of Mathew Robinson Fresh from readings of his latest musical, Atlantis, in New York City for Stephen Schwartz (composer / lyricist of Pippin, Godspell and Wicked), Disney Theatrical Productions and Cameron Mackintosh Ltd, former Rockhampton performer, lyricist and composer, Matthew Robinson will perform an evening of his own music. Matthew will perform excerpts from his award winning musicals Metro Street, Happy People and his most recent creation, Atlantis. Matthew is the youngest ever recipient of Australia’s music theatre writing award, the Pratt Prize for Music Theatre. Matthew is not only a rising star of music theatre also a successful singer and actor with an extensive list of credits. Since leaving Rockhampton, Matthew has performed in a variety of stage and television productions. He has performed leading roles in Australian productions of The Pirates of Penzance, A Little Night Music, My Fair Lady, Pippin, and South Pacific. Matthew will be accompanied by another former local performer Sharnee O’Donnell. Sharnee is currently studying music theatre at the Australian Institute of Music and has performed in productions including Rent, Broadway Unplugged and Spring Awakening. Sharnee is well known to local theatre audiences, having played the role of Kim in Rockhampton Regional Council’s Miss Saigon as well as Rockhampton Musical Union and Emmaus College productions.

The Ten Tenors The Ten Tenors return home to Queensland for a special Mum’s The Word tour. Strictly Dance Narelle Aspinall’s Capricorn School of Dancing will perform its end of year concert entitled Strictly Dance at the Pilbeam Theatre in November. The evening of dance will feature over 90 students from the school performing a myriad of entertaining numbers. The night will showcase the talented students of the school performing all styles of dance including music theatre acts from Newsies, Mary Poppins, Catch Me If You Can and Singin’ in the Rain. The younger students of the school will perform a circus themed ballet number entitled Under the Big Top. Be sure to look out for the baby elephants, ponies and poodles, tight rope walkers and clowns! Other entertaining items in the evening will feature tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary and national dance.

Morning Melodies: Spirit of Christmas Enjoy the spirit of Christmas at the December Morning Melodies at the Pilbeam Theatre. The popular Gaslight Company is sure to entertain audiences with their very special Christmas performance, The Spirit of Christmas. Debbie’s Dance Studio – Concerts Debbie’s Dance Studio’s 10th annual concert will showcase 350 dance students and cheerleaders in two high energy concerts. The studio has always had the motto of ‘putting the fun back in dance’ and this will definitely come through as students perform an exciting variety of dance pieces in styles including contemporary and modern dance, hiphop and cheerleading. There will be two concerts. Audiences can choose from either the junior concert, featuring performers aged 3 to 13 years or the senior concert, featuring performers aged 10 years and above.
