FRIENDS OF THE THEATRE If you enjoy the theatre, why not become a Friend of the Theatre? Friends of the Theatre is an organisation where members volunteer to work in various aspects of the theatre such as ushering, bar, candy bar and program selling. Friends receive discounts to many of the shows listed in Spotlight, and also receive this newsletter mailed direct to them. Each time a Friend of the Theatre works they receive a Performance Work Voucher, which is exchanged for tickets to events. Unlimited seats are available in exchange for Performance Work Vouchers on events in Spotlight bearing the blue star symbol. For other events, voucher seats are limited to a total of six seats per performance. Further details as well as membership forms are available from the Box Office.

GENERAL INFORMATION Theatre programs start promptly at the advertised start time and latecomers will not be admitted until a suitable break in the performance. Smoking is not allowed in any part of the Pilbeam Theatre or other Council venues. The use of cameras and recording devices during performances is illegal and penalties for infringement of copyright in this way are severe. Please ensure all mobile phones are switched off before entering the auditorium. Crying or fidgety children can be a distraction to other theatregoers and performers, so if you bring your small child to the theatre, please book an aisle seat in case you need to exit the auditorium.

Rockhampton Eisteddfod
The 80th Rockhampton Eisteddfod commences on 27 April featuring all aspects of the performing arts – vocal, instrumental, piano, speech and drama and dance. Copies of the official program can be purchased from the Pilbeam Theatre Box Office. For Walter Reid sessions, session tickets are available at the door. For Pilbeam Theatre sessions, tickets are available from the Pilbeam Theatre Box Office and online. The Eisteddfod Gala Concert will be held on Saturday 6 June at 1.30pm.

Queensland Ballet’s Coppelia The internationally acclaimed Queensland Ballet returns to Rockhampton in May with a stunning new production of Coppelia. The enduring classic, featuring music by Leo Delibes, is the story of a beautiful, life-like doll and two bickering young lovers. Jealous of her sweetheart Franz’s interest in Doctor Coppélius’s mysterious ‘daughter’, Swanilda sneaks into his house to confront her rival. But all is not as it seems – and when the doctor discovers Franz is another intruder, mayhem follows. With its joyful dance and the charming music of Léo Delibes, Queensland Ballet’s Coppélia will enchant people of all ages. Coppelia is presented by Rockhampton Regional Council and is part of the 2015 See It Live Theatre Season.

Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow Melbourne International Comedy Festival is on the road again with a colossal night of hilarity. Be prepared for laughs a plenty as the Melbourne Comedy Festival lets loose its most loved comedians onto the open road for the Melbourne Comedy Festival Roadshow. The rollcall of comedians coming to Rockhampton includes: Kevin Kropinyeri, Anne Edmonds, DeAnne Smith, Ivan Aristeguieta, and Josh Earl. Presented by Rockhampton Regional Council. The Glenn Miller Orchestra The Glenn Miller Orchestra returns by overwhelming popular demand for this concert spectacular, to honour the year of the ANZAC Centenary. Featuring America’s finest musicians together with the Moonlight Serenade Singers and The Broadway Swing Dancers, the concert will pay tribute to the spirit of ANZAC including a special feature of music and songs from the years of the Great War. The Taste of the World Festival is a unique, annual multicultural event celebrating the rich cultural diversity of the Central Queensland Region. Peter Pan A Musical Adventure
Heights College presents Peter Pan – A Musical Adventure. Imagination, fun and adventure are encapsulated in the haunting and beautiful musical score of one of the best-loved children’s stories of all time - Peter Pan. It is the wonderment of childhood and joy of boyish adventures that so captivates us even today, and yet at the heart of it all is a desire to belong, to have a family. The tradition of storytelling takes us to far-off places in another world; it allows us to dream and create, to fight wrong and make the world a better place. Peter Pan, A Musical Adventure based on JM Barrie’s original play with permission from Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, is one such musical. The characters take us on a journey to Neverland where you never have to grow up – a place where time seems to stand still and where adventures are fought and won, together. The music by George Stiles and Lyrics by Anthony Drewe draw all these magical elements together in this presentation. Come and join us for a Musical Adventure that is not to be missed.

That’s right – IT’S SHOWTIME! Mark these dates in your diary – Wednesday, June 10 to Friday, June 12. The newly formed Rockhampton Agricultural & Citizens Show Society Inc. have taken on the immense task of organising the Rockhampton Show in 2015 and will showcase a variety of local talent from young to old. This is the Annual event which ‘brings the country to town’. With everything from the usual Agricultural displays to thrilling rides and amusements to the addition of some new displays and a new line-up of awesome entertainment. With a new look, there will be something for everyone at this years’ Rockhampton Show. The CQ Health 2015 Sports and Health Expo is a community event aimed to encourage the Rockhampton Regional community to get involved in physical activity, healthy eating and healthy lifestyles. Kelly History tells us that Dan and Ned Kelly never saw eye to eye and there is also a myth that Dan escaped the fire at Glenrowan and disappeared to Queensland. This makes for a brilliantly charged premise, explored beautifully on stage in Queensland Theatre Company’s Kelly. In 80 gripping minutes, the play weaves Kelly fact, theory and myth while exploring masculinity, brotherhood and the dangerous dynamic of mateship. The play centres around Ned Kelly’s final night in prison. He is interrupted by the arrival of his brother, Dan, disguised as a priest. Supposed killed at the siege of Glenrowan, Dan is intent on moving north to Queensland and forgetting his past. To do so, he needs Ned’s blessing and forgiveness.

QSO Four Seasons The Queensland Symphony Orchestra is proud to return to Rockhampton to perform a program of wonderful music including Vivaldi’s best known piece, the popular Four Seasons, and other great works for string orchestra. In Vivaldi’s time, orchestras commonly performed with a violinist directing instead of a conductor. The performance follows this tradition with former QSO, now Australian Chamber Orchestra violinist, Glenn Christensen invited back as soloist to lead musicians from the QSO.
