FRIENDS OF THE THEATRE If you enjoy the theatre, why not become a Friend of the Theatre? Friends of the Theatre is an organisation where members volunteer to work in various aspects of the theatre such as ushering, bar, candy bar and program selling. Friends receive discounts to many of the shows listed in Spotlight, and also receive this newsletter mailed direct to them. Each time a Friend of the Theatre works they receive a Performance Work Voucher, which is exchanged for tickets to events. Unlimited seats are available in exchange for Performance Work Vouchers on events in Spotlight bearing the blue star symbol. For other events, voucher seats are limited to a total of six seats per performance. Further details as well as membership forms are available from the Box Office.

GENERAL INFORMATION Theatre programs start promptly at the advertised start time and latecomers will not be admitted until a suitable break in the performance. Smoking is not allowed in any part of the Pilbeam Theatre or other Council venues. The use of cameras and recording devices during performances is illegal and penalties for infringement of copyright in this way are severe. Please ensure all mobile phones are switched off before entering the auditorium. Crying or fidgety children can be a distraction to other theatregoers and performers, so if you bring your small child to the theatre, please book an aisle seat in case you need to exit the auditorium.

12 Angry Men In the play, Twelve Angry Men, a jury must decide whether or not to reach a guilty verdict and sentence the 19 year old defendant to death. After 6 days listening to evidence in court, eleven jurors vote “guilty.” Only one man, Juror #8, believes that the young man might be innocent. He must convince the others that “reasonable doubt” exists. One by one, the jury is persuaded to agree with Juror #8. Featuring a talented cast of local actors, Rockhampton Little Theatre’s production of 12 Angry Men will keep you engaged from the opening scene to the closing moments and will leave you pondering the meaning of the term “reasonable doubt”. Into the Woods
Emmaus College will perform Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods. Into the Woods combines the well-known fairy tales of Cinderella, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Little Red Riding Hood with the story of the baker and his wife who desperately want a child. Unfortunately, the baker and his wife have been cursed with childlessness by a witch and must perform various missions involving the characters in the other fairy tales to break the spell.

Rocky Swap 2014 The North Rockhampton Rotary Club will again partner with the All Classic Motor Club to run the 18th Rocky Swap on 2nd August 2014. This annual event is on again for all people interested in a good deal at cheap prices. With over 1100 stalls, there is a huge range of items on sale - come and browse and grab a bargain. The event raises funds for various charities and Rotary programmes.

The Addams Family – A New Musical
The Rockhampton Grammar School presents The Addams Family - a new musical, based on the characters created by Charles Addams. Morticia and Gomez Addams want to continue living amongst death, pain and suffering, the way they always have. But then there is a change in the plans. Their eldest child, Wednesday, has fallen in love with a strange boy, Lucas Beinike. To the Addams, strange is normal, happy is sad. To Morticia and Gomez’s own complexity, they invite the new boyfriend’s family to dinner. Many strange things happen the night that the Beinekes come to visit.

Take Me Home – The Music & Life of John Denver takes you on a musical journey of one of the world’s most captivating and celebrated men. Through the exclusive film footage, his love for life, and concerns for the environment are poignantly portrayed in this stage presentation. John’s love for life, concerns for the environment, through to his premature death are all included within the presentation. The motivation for many of his hit songs are explained, including visiting Jacques Cousteau on Calypso, which was the inspiration for his worldwide mega-hit ‘Calypso’. Singer Bevan Gardiner, accompanied by international musicians perform all the John Denver songs with such accuracy and feeling that if you close your eyes you will be effortlessly transported to the era of John Denver.

Photo exhibition Known to the Arabs as al-Maghreb al-Aqsa, meaning the “farthest land of the setting sun,” Morocco boasts stunning natural beauty and an extraordinarily rich and varied cultural heritage. Looking Through A Glass Onion Starring John Waters with Stewart D’ Arrietta. Looking Through a Glass Onion is a homage to the music, mystery and memory of John Lennon. Looking Through a Glass Onion is not a cut-and-paste biography of Lennon or an emulation of the original recordings. On stage, Waters becomes synonymous with Lennon. He shies away from imitating the artist, but so emotive is his performance, it lulls the audience into believing anything is possible. It’s part concert and part biography, though it doesn’t seek to tell the full story of Lennon’s life. With 31 songs performed including to name a few, ‘A Day in the Life’, ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’, ‘Revolution’, ‘Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds’, ‘Woman’, ‘Jealous Guy’, ‘Imagine’ and more, this is a show for all ages.

Wombat Stew The simple story of a dingo who catches a wombat and decides to make wombat stew, has been cleverly developed by Garry Ginivan Attractions (creators of Possum Magic The Musical) into a “trueblue-dinky-di-big-aussie-musical” - complete with blobs of mud, very fine feathers, creepy crawlies, flies, gum-nuts and a big bubbling billy can! Elvis to the max He was one of the most important figures of the 20th century pop culture. A cultural icon, widely known by the single name Elvis, who is often referred to as the ‘King of Rock and Roll’ or simply ‘The King’. Now the memory and legend lives on in a very special concert event entitled The Orchestral Sessions featuring a 18 piece orchestra starring one of the world’s first and most-successful Elvis impersonators Max Pellicano, whose uncanny resemblance and equally chilling performance has mesmerised Australians over the last two decades. There are lots of Elvis impersonators around, but Max Pellicano is considered as the best. In addition, the costumes worn by Max Pellicano are exact replicas made by Elvis’ personal tailor Bill Bellow. Elvis To The Max will re-create for one special night the The Orchestral Sessions, proudly presented in Australia by Abstract Entertainment.
