Foreword Welcome to the 2017 See It Live Theatre Season. While 2016 was certainly a great year for the Pilbeam Theatre, 2017 is shaping up to be just as exciting! One of the highlights of the 2017 See It Live Theatre Season is sure to be the musical Wicked. When I saw Mary Poppins at the Pilbeam Theatre in 2016, I was extremely impressed with the quality of the performances by our own local singers, dancers, actors, musicians and production team. So, too, were many thousands of other theatregoers who also loved it and helped make Mary Poppins the most successful show that has ever been staged at the Pilbeam Theatre. I was overwhelmed not only by the quality of the show but also by the audience response. With that in mind I am excited to see our production of the hit musical Wicked in April. Created by Wayne Scott Kermond and Katie Kermond, who also created Mary Poppins, Wicked will, I am sure, set the standard again for locally produced musicals. Rockhampton Regional Council plays a pivotal role in enhancing the liveability of this region. One of the ways it does so is by encouraging local performers to showcase their talents and by bringing or ‘presenting’ a wide variety of performances on the stage of the Pilbeam Theatre. In this way, Council is able to choose which shows and which performing arts companies come to the region rather than have the theatre act solely as a venue for hire. While it is great to see others hiring the venue and presenting fantastic performances, the Pilbeam Theatre’s See it Live Season enables the theatre to balance the program and cater for all tastes. This year’s See it Live Theatre Season boasts a variety of genres such as drama, music, dance and more, from state and national companies. Handel’s Messiah Join the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, The Australian Voices and local choristers as they perform Handel’s immortal choral masterpiece, Messiah. George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) composed Messiah in just over three weeks during the summer of 1741. A reflection on the significance of Christ’s life and death to the Christian believer, Messiah is an oratorio which includes words selected from the Holy Bible. It premiered in Dublin in 1742 to an overwhelmingly positive reception. Centuries on, it is no wonder that the power of Handel’s Messiah still draws audiences. So if everything we’ve ever done, and never done, has THE NEW YORKER happened in alternate universes, that means there are universes in which we’ve never met. Universes where I married Prince Harry and you went to jail for tax fraud. How romantic, darling. Lovers often say fate brought them together, and fate doesn’t get much credit after that. But in Constellations, by hot young British playwright Nick Payne, every moment Roland and Marianne share is at the mercy of the infinite and unknowable universe. A beekeeper and a quantum physicist – the odds of them getting together are astronomical. But when their worlds do collide, they keep on colliding, as all the possibilities of their life together – good, bad and ugly – flicker across the stage in a series of intricatelystructured snapshots, from first date to farewell. Mozart & Brahms Director Pekka Kuusisto Clarinet Matthew Hunt ACO Collective MOZART Divertimento in D major, K.136 BARTÓK Divertimento BRAHMS (arr. strings) Clarinet Quintet in B minor Britain’s leading clarinetist, Matthew Hunt, joins violinist Pekka Kuusisto and ACO Collective in Mozart & Brahms for an energy-infused Sunday afternoon concert. Brahms came out of retirement to write the Clarinet Quintet and created a work that is clearly written from the heart. Bartók too was writing from the soul when he composed his Divertimento. ACO Collective is the ACO’s critically acclaimed 17-piece string ensemble that in 2017 celebrates its 10th anniversary. The ensemble combines musicians of the ACO with Australia’s most talented young professional musicians, creating an ensemble with a fresh, energetic performance style.

Choose from 4-Pack – one ticket to any four different shows in this booklet. 6-Pack – one ticket to any six different shows in this booklet. 8-Pack – one ticket to any eight different shows in this booklet. Substantial Savings All subscription packs guarantee substantial savings on individual ticket prices. The more you buy the bigger the discount. You will save up to $12 per ticket depending on which shows and which pack you select (see the ‘regular price’ listed on each show’s page in this booklet to see exactly how much you will be saving). Can’t make it to a show? No problem! As an added bonus, you may also transfer your ticket from one subscription show to another one (provided seats are available) if you are unable to attend your selected show. Pay Later Deferred payment is available with a credit card only. This means that you commit to buying a subscription and are guaranteed good seats and discounted prices, but you pay for your tickets 14 days before each of the shows you will be attending. This means that you don’t have to pay a lump sum at the beginning of the year for all your tickets. Your credit card will have the price of the tickets debited 14 days before each show and you can pick up the tickets anytime from then on. If you use this method you are committed to buying the tickets and can’t withdraw part way through the season. To help make your visits to the theatre more enjoyable we have compiled this information. Location and facilities The Pilbeam Theatre is located at the corner of Victoria Parade and Cambridge Street, Rockhampton. A large car park is situated at the rear of the theatre, with access from Bolsover Street. There is a passenger drop off point at the front of the theatre, although for people with mobility impairment, access and parking are available at the Cambridge Street side of the theatre. There is a lift from foyer to Box Office level. The Pilbeam Theatre can accommodate a number of patrons with special seating needs. Please ensure you advise box office staff as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Bar and Foyer On arrival at the theatre or at interval you can relax with a drink in our bar or just catch up with friends in the foyer or upper balcony. Pre-ordering your interval drinks will save you time at interval. Ask the bar staff about this service on arrival. Restaurant For dinner and high tea, Delizie is the place to be at the Pilbeam Theatre. Phone 4927 8316 for reservations. For the comfort of other patrons Programs start promptly at the advertised start time and latecomers will not be admitted until a suitable break in the performance. Smoking is not allowed in any part of the Pilbeam Theatre. If you wish to smoke, please do so in the designated smoking areas which are located in the rear carpark on the other side of Quay Lane and on the kerb on Cambridge Street between Victoria Parade and the Cambridge Street entrance. The use of cameras and recording devices is distracting to other patrons and may breach copyright. Penalties for infringement are severe. Please turn your mobile phone off before entering the auditorium. Visit the Rockhampton Art Gallery before the show. Rockhampton Art Gallery will be open 90 minutes before the starting time of performances in this booklet.
