Over the past year Iota Epsilon has started a relationship with the Snyder County Special Olympics. In the fall, every Tuesday we would meet the athletes at East Snyder Park for Bocce Ball.

Some brothers would assist in the Bocce games, both helping athletes walk and being a referee for the games. Other brothers would walk with the athletes that were training for the race walk. The main competition in the fall was the Bloomsburg Bocce Bash. Many of the athletes brought metals to show off at the following practice. Needless to say we were very happy for them that their hard work paid off.

This spring, we assisted with softball. It was nice to be back playing with the athletes. Both Iota Epsilon brothers and the Special Olympic athletes enjoyed the new bonds formed this academic year. We look forward to continuing this relationship for many years to come.

Iota Epsilon brothers voted to increase the mandatory service hours to 10 hours per semester. We have continued to enjoy working with the surrounding Selinsgrove community.

Many of these brothers have job offers or already accepted job offers. Troy Cote has been accepted to graduate school and will be attending Quinnipiac University in the fall.

Recently, Mr. Cravitz has accepted the position of Interim Advisor for our chapter. His continued hard work and dedication has been essential to our success.

New Members Host Cookout

Pictured above are some of the graduating seniors with President Jay Lemons at Senior Convocation Dinner. Below are some of the new brothers of the Mu Class in the spring of 2017.

In the spring of 2017, the mu class hosted a cookout during the Andy Grammer concert. The cookout started at 8pm and lasted until 10pm. New member Owen Madden and brother Jimmy Gombas created sandwiches that many people enjoyed. The sandwiches were made of barbeque pulled pork on a soft ciabatta roll. All new members were tasked with planning and executing this event in order to receive as many donations as possible. They funded the purchase of food by dorm storming, collecting any change from students in dorms who were willing to donate. In only two hours of hosting the cookout the new members raised $200 for the Ability Experience.

The new members also wanted to make a physical object that they could leave in the Pi Kappa Phi house. They decided to make a table with our letters on the top of it.

The new members worked hard during the associate member process. They learned about the history of Pi Kappa Phi and the history of Iota Epsilon. In the end, we are excited to welcome our new brothers in the spring of 2017.

Letter from the Archon

Formal On April 8th, we hosted our annual formal at the Edison Hotel in Sunbury. The brothers enjoyed a night of great food and music with their dates. The chicken parmesan was the crowd favorite, followed by the beef entree. As always, alumni are invited and encouraged to attend formal. Our alumni in attendance were Cameron Hummel, Matt Simoncini, Greg Swierzewski, Jesse Larch, Peter Snarski and Jack McAnany. Special thanks to Cameron Hummel for DJ-ing the event.

I would like to once again congratulate Kyle Entin on an exceptional one year term as Archon. Kyle is a true friend and an exceedingly talented leader. Kyle; Thank you for your continued commitment to Iota Epsilon, and for aiding the Presidency transition so selflessly!

Iota Epsilon is also very fortunate to have a strong interim Chapter Advisor, George Cravitz.

Cravitz has continued to benefit the chapter with his insightful advice and overall devotion to Pi Kappa Phi! It has been four months since I was elected to be Archon. These past four months have gone by incredibly quick and have been a huge eye opener. I praise all those who came before me in this distinguished role as Archon.

Brothers Victor and Steve are pictured to the right at the “Spread the Word to End the Word” awareness event this past semester.

As a chapter we are beginning to learn the meaning of being a devout organization with a commendable history. Our engagement in various philanthropic and social activities as well as our recruitment efforts has help to aid us even further in laying down this foundation.

Dave Stefanovige Award The winner of this year’s David Stefanovige Memorial Award is Kyle Skelton. He joins last year’s winner Peter Snarski as recipient of Iota Epsilon’s most prestigious award. Other past winners are Ben Malecki, Matt Bruer, Sam Mino, Alex Hamm, Dan Melville, and Greg Swierzewski. Kyle Skelton displays strong leadership qualities, passion for the Ability Experience, and the desire to improve Iota Epsilon.

Coming into the next academic year individual accountability will be restored and improved upon. We must realize that chapter success is not contingent upon one individual, executive board, committee etc. but rather on the efforts of all members. It is important that our focuses always reflect what is best for Iota Epsilon and Pi Kappa Phi, not small group agendas.

As we move forward to serve others and build influential leaders, we will make sure our intentions always demonstrate the ideals in which our chapter was founded upon. We will continue along a path that will bring us to the vision our founding fathers had for us.
