March 2016 Pi Kappa Phi Delta Omega Newsletter: March Madness, CAMP Camp, Chilifest 2016, Letter from Archon, ListServ Migration, Get Involved!

March Madness with Pi Kappa Phi This March, the men of Pi Kappa Phi Delta Omega are celebrating March Madness in their own new way. At Texas A&M University, Pi Kappa Phi is well known for its outstanding leadership and outstanding philanthropic ventures, but this March, we are adding another image to our chapter. The 2016 Executive Council has worked effortlessly to provide exclusive entertainment for its members and friends since being reigned into office. Pi Kappa Phi is the only fraternity at Texas A&M this semester to host a large artist party and not charge their invited guests to attend the event. We are excited to build our relationships with our fraternal colleagues and other many student organizations. The hope is that March 4, 2016 will begin a new adventure of signature events for the chapter and potentially many more to come. Mason Hall, our Archon, will share a few more milestones he has in store for our chapter to accomplish in 2016 in his "Letter From the Archon".

Building for CAMP Camp: The Ability Weekend On the weekend of February 19­21, 2016, Mr. Nick Neal, originally from Tyler, Texas, represented the Delta Omega chapter at a Regional Ability Experience event in Center Point, Texas. Several members of Pi Kappa Phi traveled to CAMP (Children’s Association for Maximum Potential) Camp to help construct structures around the camp grounds.

CAMP Camp is a place for "children and adults with disabilities and special health care needs to attend week­long camping sessions held each summer." A few of the structures that Pi Kapps built included a gazebo and wheelchair ramp.

Upon his return, I asked Nick Neal a few questions about his experience:

ME: Why did you want to get involved in such an event?

NICK: I wanted to get involved in this event because it was good opportunity to meet new brothers. It also fostered new connections with other chapters in our region. I feel that it was important that Delta Omega has someone attend this event and ensure our connection to other Pi Kapp brothers. As an older member of the active chapter, I truly believe our chapter needs to become more involved in these type of endeavors. We can be connecting so much more to our friends in the region.

ME: What was your favorite part about the experience?

NICK: My favorite part of the experience was the teamwork that each member displayed in all the projects. This teamwork was a key component in our efforts to finish constructing all of our camp structures. It is wonderful to see how our work and passion will impact so many families that are part of the CAMP Camp community.

Pi Kappa Phi Yacht Club It is that time of the year! Chilifest 2016 is only a month out, and we all know that means!

Mr. Clayton Chapin, our brotherhood chair, has the responsibility for organizing our chapter's Chilifest 2016 experience. Clayton Chapin is one of the chapters young, emerging leaders not afraid of challenging and demanding tasks that even the most experienced chapter leaders find difficult.

With the input of the chapter, Chapin and his Chilifest committee agreed upon selecting "Pi Kappa Phi Yacht Club" as the 2016 theme. Chapin appointed senior civil engineering student and chapter chaplain, Matt Smith, to lead the chapter's efforts toward a phenomenal build. As build chair, Matt Smith first began by sketching up his idea for our site. You can further explore the details of his build at the end of this article! A few features in the illustrations are a lighthouse, sailboat (DJ Stage), and elevated walking platforms to view the action down below.

Matt recognized an issue encountered in the past while building the Chilifest build, and Matt searched for a solution to this ongoing problem. Year after year, the chapter spends dollar after dollar to purchase the required materials for such a hefty project. Using personal connections, Matt and a few other actives requested for lumber donations from house builders. Matt came across this solution since one of his roommates is involved in house construction. With the help of our associate members and the active chapter, Matt will oversee the creation of an outstanding Chilifest build.

Letter From The Archon Howdy,

My name is Mason Hall and I am a Junior, Industrial Distribution major from Houston, TX. I would like to take a moment and relay my four main objectives for chapter success, that I believe are achievable this year. At the top of my platform is to join the century club with one hundred active members, putting us in a category with the top six chapters on campus. We need to continue our growth to keep up with A&M's growing student population. Increasing our numbers creates a domino effect to improve all aspects of our chapter such as philanthropy, fundraising, campus involvement, and branding, all recycling back to recruiting. By 2025 A&M wants 25,000 engineering students, on top of

the growing number of business and agriculture students. This is a huge opportunity that Share Past Issues Translate many chapters will benefit from, and realizing this now will put us in a position to be more competitive in the future.

Along with growth, I will continue to increase our contribution to the Ability Experience. Last year we raised over five thousand dollars, and this year, I would like to break seven thousand dollars. I plan to do this by hosting on campus fundraisers such as our car smash in March, and by building upon last semesters Ability week.

Next, I would like to continue engaging our alumni with monthly newsletters. I feel like the relationship between alumni and the active chapter has diminished over the years, and I would like to strengthen that bond by keeping the alumni up to date through this newsletter.

Lastly, along with a steady growth in numbers, increasing our Ability donation and strengthening our alumni relationship, I would also like to expand upon our most cherished characteristic, brotherhood. We naturally pride ourselves on the traditions here at Texas A&M. I would like to bring back some old traditions and brotherhood events that may have been lost along the way. I encourage you to email me at archon@aggiepikapps.org, and relay some of the your most memorable traditions and brotherhood events from your time spent here. I would like to continue, or even revive some of those lost Delta Omega traditions, and pass them along for years to come. I am looking forward to sharing more great news throughout this year. ListServ Migration!

You might have received an email within the last week regarding your subscription to the new Delta Omega Alumni ListServ on Google Groups. This ListServ is a crucial component of a successful alumni chapter. The purpose of this ListServ is to share information with everyone regarding Pi Kappa Phi alumni events, news, and information. I will be sending out a ListServ soon to share with everyone how to take advantage of the new ListServ.

One of the most valuable aspects we all have to share from this large network of peers is a method for sharing and reminiscing on photos from the past, present, and future.

As the historian, I would like to establish a working library of photos and memories so Share Past Issues Translate that we can always look back to the times spent as an Aggie Pi Kapp.
