Delta Omega Newsletter Fall 2016

Page 1

As the fall semester came to a close, the Delta Omega Chapter initiated our largest class in history at 28 new brothers. During the Fall semester the chapter also wanted to do something special for our chapter advisor, Greg Fink. He was alumni initiated along with the new class, and we are honored to all now call him a brother. Mr. Fink’s ongoing support and guidance has kept us on the path towards the goals we have set for ourselves. We will continue to lean on Greg during this time of growth in our chapter. The chapter would like to thank the alumni that raised money for fall rush in August, as well as those who gave their time back to the chapter. We are certain that without y’alls continual support this would have not have been possible. by Thomas Campbell

Brother Chase Whittet Travels to Nicaragua with Non-Profit Global Brigades Chase Whittet, Senior, traveled to Matagalpa, Nicaragua for a week in the beginning of January 2017. Whittet traveled with a group of Texas A&M students to volunteer for Global Brigades – Public Health, a non-profit organization. Whittet, along with other volunteers, helped empower rural communities to prevent common illnesses through in-home infrastructural development, community leader training, and health education. The group built santanitry units that included a restroom, shower, and hand wash stations. When talking with Whittet about his trip he commented that, “The overall trip was incredible. Meeting the families in the communities and seeing how truly happy they all when they have so very little to begin with was very eye opening. I am thankful that I got to serve families in need.” Delta Omega applauds Whittet for his work and his representation of Pi Kappa Phi.

Delta Omega Receives High Praise at Pi Kapp College for Chapter Officers The new executive council traveled to Birmingham, Alabama on January 13th, 2017 for Pi Kapp College for Chapter Officers. The Council received hands-on training for each specific officer position, as well as made new connections with other chapters across the country. The Delta Omega chapter received awards in almost every category. A list of all awards received is as follows, Most Improved Campus Involvement, Most Improved Membership Experience Award, Most Improved in Branding and Communication Award, The Theron Houser Most Improved Chapter Award, Champion Master Chapter, and the Founder’s Award. The Founders’ Award recognizes only the most outstanding chapters of Pi Kappa Phi in the nation. Recipients of these awards display overall excellence in the areas of the Seven Objectives: Governance, Growth, Member Experience, Branding & Communication, Scholarship, Service & Philanthropy and Campus Involvement. Active member and former Archon, Mason Hall, also received the Outstanding Archon of the Year Award for his diligent work during his tenure as the leader of our chapter in 2016. By: Thomas Campbell

Bid Day 2017 Spring rush brought many challenges with it, including a shortened rush week of only three days. Vice Archon, Sam Robey, lead the charge through a very minimal recruitment window to accomplish our goals. Delta Omega continues to grow with a new crop of sixteen men accepting their bids to become associate members in Pi Kappa Phi. The chapter would like to thank all the alumni who have lent a hand in the past couple of months. Your ongoing support through our transition as a Executive Council is supremely appreciated.
