PRESIDENT Phillip Summers | firstname.lastname@example.org
As new Archon of Pi Kappa Phi, I am honored to lead our Chapter into a new, fulfilling academic year. We want to improve our reputation not only within the Greek community, but on campus as well. By participating in various Greek activities such philanthropy walks and fundraising campaigns with other fraternity and sororities, I believe Pi Kapps are showing the campus that we truly are one of the best fraternities at IU. Although we have not yet achieved our G.P.A. goal, I can assure everyone that we have made changes to improve our overall G.P.A. rankings and are striving to be one of the top IU academic chapters. As you will read in other articles in Alpha Psi Lines, within the first few weeks of the fall semester, we have already made moves to improve the chapter. Physical improvements have been made to the chapter house, leaders within the house are taking major leadership roles on campus, fall semester rush has been successfully completed, and a list of challenging goals have been set to create an even better reputation for Alpha Psi Chapter. I hope you enjoy the news of your chapter and will continue to be proud to be a brother of the Alpha Psi Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi. God Bless our fraternity!

SECRETARY Jim Crews | firstname.lastname@example.org
There have been two major changes to the Alpha Psi Executive Board. The 2010-2011 Archon, Bill Kennedy, has been succeeded by Dylan Pure. Dylan Pure is a southern boy from Atlanta, Ga., and has been an outstanding chapter and campus leader. Dylan was the vice archon last year and was recently voted by the chapter unanimously to become our new leader. After Dylan became archon, the vice archon position was open and that is when Evan Ling came into the picture. Evan Ling is a junior from the Chicago-area and is also another strong leader for the chapter. The Executive Board and chapter agreed that Evan would be a good vice archon, and he was elected unanimously to that position. These two brothers have already demonstrated their leadership and have helped lead the Executive Board and chapter in positive ways. We are looking forward to great things from these two strong Pi Kapp leaders throughout this year.

Pi Kappa Phi has always started the new academic year with a list of goals. This year’s goals consist of a long list of challenging yet achievable goals. First and probably the most important, we want to raise our overall Chapter G.P.A. from 3.016 to a 3.1 and hopefully put Pi Kappa Phi among the top 10 academically in the IU Greek community. This goal is a challenge because Pi Kappa Phi is one of the largest fraternity chapters at IU with more 180 brothers. The larger the chapter the more difficult it is to raise the G.P.A. average, but we will achieve this goal! Secondly, we want to raise at least $5,000 this semester for Push America through various fundraisers. Third, the chapter would like a smooth and fun-filled mom and dad’s weekend. Additional goals include having a successful spring semester rush, increasing our work and reputation with Stonebelt (the disabilities services agency), reclaiming our excellent reputation with the IU administration, and finally developing closer relations with our alumni. If we can carry out all these goals successfully, then Pi Kappa Phi will be in great shape at IU and create a strong base for years to come.
CHAPTER HOUSE IMPROVEMENTS
BY MARK RYDEN
This year our alumni board continued the updating of our IU “home away from home” chapter house. Over the summer, the board hired construction workers and completed several new projects in the chapter house—including a fresh coat of paint for all rooms, new stairwell lighting, fire retardant curtains around bunk beds and fire retardant plywood between beds. When we returned after a long summer away, the chapter house looked almost brand new. We are doing our share of keeping this house in good condition and the alumni board is holding us to our promise of keeping the house clean. The second part of the major renovations will be coming in the summer of 2012. This major project will take all summer and will add a completely new look to the front entrance to the Alpha Psi chapter house. We are grateful that our chapter house is among the best on campus.

Rush this fall was outstanding for Pi Kappa Phi. We recruited 43 new associate members who are enthusiastic about joining our fraternity. The 2011 associate class is filled with men who have very good academic records as well as leadership potential. We have to give a big thanks to Archon Dylan Pure, Vice Archon Evan Ling, and Rush Chairmen Tyler Vandervort, Bobby O’Brien, Jimmy Joduien and Timmy Cubis. These brothers worked hard to recruit the very best associate class for Alpha Psi. We strongly believe this class has excellent potential to make a difference on campus and in our chapter. These new associate members come from all over the U.S. and seeing their enthusiasm and interaction with each other has been a joy. They all bring something new and positive to our fraternity. Many of them have already been asking how they can contribute to Alpha Psi and improve the chapter’s reputation on campus and within the national fraternity.

Brothers of Pi Kappa Phi see the value in being leaders. One Alpha Psi member has taken “leadership” to a new level. Riley Voss, a junior, was elected to the Union Board Committee. Within his short time on the board, Brother Voss has organized the effort to bid for a 2012 presidential debate to take place at IU. This effort has taken a tremendous amount of work, energy and time, and he deserves to be recognized for his leadership. Also, Brother Voss has sought local sponsorships to purchase new equipment for our Little 500 Bike Team. In addition, he has reorganized and intensified our risk management procedures—an effort that has been an outstanding benefit for the chapter. We want to thank Brother Voss for providing our chapter and the IU Union Board important leadership.
golf outing for push america
BY ALEX CROWLEY
Push America is the one thing that Pi Kapps look to improve every year. This year we have already had one event that consisted of 40 brothers competing in a golf outing. All hole sponsor money that we raised will be donated to Push America. The tourney was best ball, and the winning foursome was Pat Kennedy, Alex Crowley, Alex Miller and Connor Costello. The group went 10 under for the round. Special thanks to Adam Schneider for setting up the successful brotherhood and event.
