Arval Headquarter Scandicci | 7000 sqm | 2011-2015 The new Arval House project, an important national long term car renting leader firm, was thought as an arrow from which the building working energy seems to spring out. It is an energetic level self sufficient structure, with a good aesthetic impact which exalts its function. The wide wings made of photo-voltaic glass panels are sustained by a steel structure and twist on, up to dissolve into the building, creating a perception of widening space and sculptural dynamism. The faces, principally constituted by horizontal ribbon like- panels and frames, go to create a sort of bow- window, apparently distributed in a casual way and joined together in a random corner solution with continuous glass walls. Glass, cement and steel are the materials here used that exalt the perception of the Arrow.

“from the lightning comes the energy necessary to the operation of the entire building”

Here is the concept that guided the project: “the project is aimed at energy sustainability, thanks to the maximum exploitation of solar inputs and a drastic reduction of energy losses. The intent is to respect the ecological balance by supplying energy rather than consuming it. The aesthetic impact wanted to enhance this function: the concept of a lightning-shaped volume was born, from which springs the energy necessary to the operation of the entire building”. The correct orientation of the volume, developed in plan on the north-south axis, the adequate sizing of the openings and the shell’s insulation, the use of photovoltaic panels allow to reach high levels of efficiency that place the building in the energy class A . The structure and the

vertical closing elements of the walls are made with prefabricated reinforced concrete technologies; the use of industrialized buildings guarantees a considerable reduction in the time and costs of on-site assembly. The intervention data can be summarized in a volume of 24.800 Mc. From the architectural point of view the intervention is characterized by the lightness of the structure, achieved by using reinforced steel profile with reduced section. Covering sails have a weight of only 70 kg /sqm and seem almost to swell under the action of the wind and intersect until they merge with the building, creating a perception of expansion of spaces and sculptural dynamism.

A012

The two sails are completed by about one thousand photovoltaic panels, chosen in special semitransparent modules which, in addition to producing energy, serve as sunshades for the facades most exposed to solar radiation. Furthermore, there is no boiler in the building: the air conditioning, both hot and cold, is obtained from a high-efficiency heat pump connected to low/ medium depth geothermal probes. It is a zero-emission system; the heat pump exploits the thermal properties of the subsoil and the electricity produced by photovoltaics.

The central hall is the clearing house for all functions; only through it is it possible to access the building. It is characterized by a large double-height space illuminated by a two levels continuous glass window where natural light stands out in the large volume of the hall and the furniture’s bright colors play down the formal context of an international company’s headquarters. Thanks to internal and external

windows and open floor plans, there’s a kind of open space feethants due to. A marked acoustic comfort was achieved through false ceilings and sound-absorbing panels. To enliven lighting, ceiling lights of different sizes were used, positioned in an apparently random manner, but which guarantee a considerable and widespread lighting capacity.

Kortimed Valencia | 3000 sqm | 2016-2018 Directional and industrial headquarter for Kortimed España, a company specializing in food and chemical liquids’ transportation. The building will satisfy the company’s needs to clean the tanks: it will have 4 washing runways and a next-gen purifier to clean-up waste water. The building reminds to an eagle, mark of the company. A reference to the eagle’s feathers is represented by the modular façade of 1x1m which accommodates the Porcelanosa tiles. The tiles will be fixed on some concrete’s blocks with different dimensions, the facades will be settled with those modules willed with different orientation in order to liven up the surface. Five different colour shadings had been

chosen to turn the building from white till blue. The eye is visible on both the sides of the glazed tip of the building. A minor building will be realized next to the purifier to serve as a garage to repair vehicles. This building has two slanted facades overhanging to the outdoor, it will be coated with Porcelanosa tiles as well.

Turbine building Florence | 7500 sqm | 2012 The design of this building aims to reminds the form of a turbine, pride and jewel of the production of General Electric. The building appears to twist around a central axis while maintaining a constant internal plant on three levels, connected to each other between stairs and lifts. On the faรงade there are elements made up of a steel frame and a frosted glass plate, which are emulating and remembering the thousands of slats that make up the rotating heart of the turbine, the ribbon windows, running along the entire perimeter of the building, giving inside a well-lit environments.

Hidden Garden Milan | 140 sqm | 2018 Hidden Garden is a secret but at the same time infinite garden. A space of 140 ssmq protected by a ring of panels that conceal it from the chaotic square outside, from which only glimpses and perspectives are allowed. Inside, panels are covered by mirrors that create a fascinating play of reflections restoring the sensation of an endless space, in which abstraction and reality merge. The concept behind Hidden Garden is the design of a place capable of arousing an experience that goes beyond the mere display of products, an installation that accompanies the visitor in an interactive experience. Piazza Gae Aulenti is the ideal scenario for the intervention: the nerve center of the city, symbol of contemporary Milan, welcomes a small fragment of green in which to take refuge from the metropolitan chaos.

A034

Hidden Garden intends to be an oasis where you can rediscover the pleasure of a walk in the countryside, a place to play, dream or simply spend time. An evocative installation, which will change with the changing of light, from day to night.

The project consisted in restyling the interiors of the building, dating back to the early 2000s, by updating the spaces. The congress hall and the main entrance were modified by the construction of an X-lam structure that redefined the spaces. On the roof, a series of sinuous plaques characterizes the space, hiding the ventilation and lighting system.

The style and charm of the villa have been maintained during the functional conversion of the interior spaces, they have been transformed into versatile environments, suitable for hosting the various training activities offered by Unipol. The chromatic and material palette in line with the villa’s style: dark woods - as Wengé -, polished steels and high quality leathers characterize the environmen-

Magma Catania | 15.000 sqm | 2020 An architecture monument homage to the city, which becomes the guardian of new public, symbolic functions, renewed spaces and rediscovered relationships. The project presented for the competition for the new Palazzo di Giustizia in Catania is a building that encompasses the dynamic tension of the land on which it stands, the relationship with the sea and the strength of the volcano, emblem of the city. Magma offers citizens renewed public spaces and an unprecedented perspective on the landscape, contributing to the development and redevelopment of the entire area. The building is totally permeable, optimized in terms of thermal and energy efficiency, with a photovoltaic system and geothermal pumps to ensure the best possible use of resources.

R A084 A074

As part of the larger urban redevelopment and regeneration project in Catania, the new judicial offices host not only the institutional functions, but also open to the public with common areas, areas and green terraces formed by plantations and essences typical of the Sicilian territory. The location of the building was defined by taking into consideration a series of axes and inclinations of the neighboring building context, from the old sulfur factories to Viale Africa, from the solar thermal axis to the area occupied by the railway lines. The result is a courtyard building that is totally permeable both from the city and from the sea, able to absorb the differences in height present within the lot. The surface not occupied by the building becomes an open and public space that allows, also thanks to the slight slope, to enjoy the view of the sea, through an optical cone of great value. A large square totally accessible to citizens, consisting of a path with alternating slopes, leads to a hanging garden overlooking the waterfront.

“A sine wave cover evokes the relationship with the sea

In the building the relationship between built and green is resolved in a functional and active solution, not merely decorative. Seamless glass walls let in the light, which finds its maximum expression in the architecture, while the greenery, in addition to surrounding the building, appropriates the interior spaces and the roof, re-proposing the natural vegetation typical of the coast. The building has an elongated L-shaped floor plan that allows you to optimize the use of the land and interior spaces. An irregular sine wave cover evokes the relationship with the sea, an integral part of the entire project. The mezzanine floor houses all the spaces dedicated to catering and allows access to terraces from which you can enjoy a view of the sea and the entire surrounding area.

In designing the interior it was decided to craft eclectic rooms, combining local materials with ethnic elements that are part of the family’s memories, custom-made furnishings with design icons and marble busts.

“spaces permeated by colours and the place’s natural suggestions” All spaces are permeated by colours and the place’s natural sug gestions, as the gaze soaks up the Tuscan countryside through large arched openings. Immersed in greenery, the building boasts a large terracotta courtyard that rests on a space originally used as a lemon house and now converted into a gym, with an infinity pool from which to enjoy a breathtaking view over the valley.

Pietra serena - a recurring stone in Tuscan and especially Florentine architecture - is used for floors, trim and decoration, while the terracotta flooring conjures up the tones and warmth of the earth. The three levels of the house are connected by a large spiral staircase in pietra serena which becomes an element of continuity and recognition of the project, a discreet and material protagonist.

Flat Eleven Florence | 60 sqm | 2018 You might call it “Architecture of small spaces: a small 60 square metre flat in the heart of Florence. A restrained entrance opens into a surprisingly large, double-height room. A round arch characterizes the spaces, giving depth and proportion to the area: a true focal point around which both the gaze and living functions rotate. The arch becomes a scenic backdrop framing both kitchen and living room. In the centre, the Arclinea kitchen watches over the living area. You go up to the sleeping area by a cantilevered staircase whose lacquered iron structure also supports a craftsman-made fixed bike.

“a tiny window through which you can admire the dome of Santo Spirito

The apartment jewel is the tiny window through which you can admire the dome of the Renaissance church of Santo Spirito. The choice of materials, colours and finishes is dictated by the need to maximise the permanence of light and desaturate the space by amplifying the perception of room depth. A palette of pale colours has been favoured throughout the dwelling, with the exception of the indigo blue wall

and the matching sofa, which, by contrast, characterise the entire project. Attention to detail is also reflected in the choice of furnishings, true design icons: the Taccia lamp by Achille Castiglioni by FLOS, the work of the contemporary photographer Wolfgang Uhlig, the Fort Knox projectors by Philippe Stark by FLOS, the elliptical Tulip coffee table by Charles and Ray Eames by Knoll.

The building is part of the historical fabric of the city and derives from an expansion in the first half of the nineteenth century by Oreste Stefanelli through the merger of the starting building with two terraced houses then existing on the sides of the building. The designed spaces aim to enhance the tradition, as evidenced by the care taken in the restoration and restoration of structural elements such as beams and trusses or the numerous frescoes that decorate the ceilings of the rooms. Specially created for Maison Ache, a rural tuscan mansion with ethnic and contemporary flavors, Flat embodies the essence of inhabiting becoming the protagonist of the living area. The metal T-section of the feets lift the Canaletto Walnut wood sideboard from the floor: even the red lacquered top apparently wins the force of gravity giving the object character and elegance. The front elevation of Flat is enlivened by linear geometries that make up full and empty spaces, open compartments to expose precious objects and modules closed by push-pull doors. The stylistic purity of the furniture makes it a unique product that comes into perfect harmony with the materials and the stylistic contaminations that can be found in the rooms of the villa.

The project idea stems from the need to make easier the working world for all those who spend most of their day behind a desk. Thanks to an electrified leg and to the service cabinet it was possible to hide all the power, thernet and telephone cables and the CPU inside the desk, leaving much more space in the cabinet. Through the dividing panel it is also guaranteed, for those who’s working, the possibility of having more visual contacts with colleagues.
