Change is always scary.

Starting University was scary to me. I had no idea how it would be like ... I am a first generation University student so my family had no idea how to help. I was on my own. Coming to summer orientation helped me learn a lot of things I needed to know for when I began this new journey. During my orientation I met one of my best friends to this day (we share the same name so that made it kinda cool). After I moved in, being able to still have the connections

Greek Life is brand new, so it is what you make of it. From having our inaugural Paw Day, where we brought out puppies to campus to raise money for the local Humane Society, to having video game nights, we are all about brotherhood and having fun. The thing that I like most about Piedmont is how personable campus is. It is something that you do not get anywhere else. The friends that I have made over the past two years are ones that I will share for a lifetime. I am definitely looking forward to what Piedmont has in store for me in the future!

We are excited to get to know you this summer. Orientation is a four-phase M.A.N.E. Experience. As part of the M.A.N.E. Experience you will be assigned a M.A.N.E. Leader, attend an in-person orientation, navigate the “Guide to the Pride” online Canvas course, and have the opportunity to attend live workshops to prepare you to be successful at Piedmont. Oh, and did I mention that by completing orientation and participating in these workshops you will be entered to win Piedmont gear and Piedmont bookstore gift cards!!

You have already received several emails from departments on campus. Email is the formal communication method used at Piedmont University. Throughout the summer it is very important that you are checking your email. We will communicate information about orientation, the M.A.N.E. Experience, movein, Welcome Week, and more as we navigate what this fall will look like.

Phase M Your M.A.N.E. Leader is a current student who will be your guide and mentor as you transition to college. They will be your go-to person throughout the summer and the beginning of the semester.

Phase A Each incoming student is expected to attend an in-person orientation. For First Time in College (FTIC) students, these will be during the summer. For transfer or Athens campus students, these will be during the first week of

Phase N Each incoming student is expected to complete the “Guide to the Pride” online canvas course. This course is sent out beginning in May and should be completed prior to the start of the semester.

Phase E Welcome Week begins the day of move-in and lasts through the first week of classes.

FAQ What is the M.A.N.E. New Student Experience?

The M.A.N.E. Experience is a four-phase new student experience with online and in-person components to ensure a successful transition into college life.

Should I register for summer orientation?

Yes! By completing the registration for your selected orientation date, you are officially registering for the M.A.N.E. experience. If you have already registered for an orientation date, you are ready to get started!

Do I have to register for each phase of the M.A.N.E. Experience?

You only need to register for your selected summer orientation date. This will register you for all phases of the M.A.N.E. New Student Experience.

I am a transfer/Finish Line student. Do I participate in the M.A.N.E. Experience?

You will participate in a modified M.A.N.E. Experience. There will be an orientation tailored to each incoming student (first time freshman, transfer, Finish Line). We will communicate the details of each phase to you via email.

When will I be assigned my MANE Leader?

You will be assigned your MANE Leader approximately one week before your live orientation date. You will receive an email from your MANE leader the week prior to your orientation session.

Will I ever see my MANE Leader and group again?

Absolutely. The group who you meet at orientation will be the same group you meet with during Welcome Week which is phase 4 of this experience.

I am a transfer/Finish Line student. Will I be assigned a MANE Leader?

We know that transfer and Finish Line students’ needs are different from our incoming freshman. While you will not be assigned a MANE Leader, you will be assigned a Student Success Coach. You will meet your Student Success Coach during the orientation session.

Is the Guide to the Pride course required? Do I have to complete the entire thing?

Yes! All incoming students must complete all sections of the Guide to the Pride course It is a central piece in your transition into the Piedmont community!

Do I have to complete the Guide to the Pride course in one sitting?

Nope! You may stop and start as needed; your progress will be saved. You can also refer to the course when you need information during the semester.

When is Welcome Week?

Welcome week begins the day of move-in and lasts through the first week of classes.

During the first weekend you will attend sessions to prepare you for your first semester. *The dates and activities are subject to change.

How to Register for Classes Registration process for First Time in College (FTIC) students for Fall 2022 courses.

First Time in College students are students that this would be their first time as a college student outside of high school. This includes students that may already have credit hours from dual enrollment, AP exams, and CLEP exams.

Step 1: Students fill out course preference survey Step 2: Students are registered for courses Step 3: Students receive their Fall 2022 schedules after completing Phase N of the M.A.N.E. WHEN DO I PAY MY BALANCE? Your payment must be received by the due date specified. See Billing Dates & Payment Deadlines attached.

WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS FOR PAYING MY BALANCE? a. You can pay Piedmont directly in monthly installments or all at once before the beginning of the semester. b. You can pay part or all of your tuition using financial aid. c. A ll payment arrangements and/or financial aid must be finalized approximately 3 weeks prior to beginning class each semester.

HOW CAN I PAY FOR CLASSES? You can pay with a debit/credit card or e-check online at https://selfservice.piedmont.edu/Student. You can also mail a check/money order to: Piedmont University, Attn: Student Accounts, P.O. Box 10, Demorest, Georgia 30535 or bring your payment in person to the Student Accounts. If you are unable to access Self Service, you may also submit a payment at www.piedmont.edu/business-aid. Piedmont University will not accept postdated checks. All checks will be processed upon receipt. Payments are not accepted over the phone.

HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR THE PIEDMONT PAYMENT PLAN (PPP) OPTION? After registration, you can view your account online on Self Service. To set up a payment plan for your balance, you must contact Student Accounts. For fall and spring semesters, charges are divided into 5 monthly payments (starting July 15-Nov. 15th for fall and Dec. 15th-April 15th for spring). During summer semester, the PPP has only two payments (May 15 & June 15th). Payments are always due on the 15th of the month, and failure to make timely payments will result in the addition of late fees. We offer more information at www.piedmont.edu/pilgrimnet on the Student Accounts page.

Is there a fee for choosing the payment plan?

YES. A non-refundable charge of $50.00/semester is added to the balance and divided equally over the 5-month payment plan. During summer semester, the fee is waived.

If I choose the payment plan option, will I receive a monthly reminder?

You will not receive a printed invoice. You may log on to Self Service to view your account and make a payment.

You may also contact Student Accounts at any time to inquire about your payment due date or amount. It is the student’s responsibility to pay on time each month. Ther is a $15 late fee applied to all late payments.

Is it too late to apply for financial aid if I have not done that yet?

No, it is not too late. However, you will need to make monthly payments until your financial aid is approved.

How do I get approval from Student Accounts to move in & attend classes?

You must have enough financial aid approved to cover the entire tuition charges for that semester. If there is an additional balance due after the application of financial aid or if you are not receiving any financial aid your payment must be received in our office by the due date for the term. A Student Accounts Clearance will be issued prior to move in day if your account is settled. Please be advised that your professors will be notified if you are not cleared to attend classes.

Who has access to my account?

Unless the student signs a privacy release form (FERPA), no specific account information will be shared with anyone other than the student. A copy of the FERPA privacy form is given at orientation. The student may fill out this form and return it to Student Accounts or the Registrar’s Office.

What other charges might I see on my bill?

Other charges that might appear on your bill include returned check fees, replacement ID charges, dorm fines, applied music fees, and a technology fee. A complete list of additional charges is provided in the Piedmont University catalog.

What type of aid am I eligible to receive?

You may contact Financial Aid or sign into Self Service to see what funds are available for you. Please remember, your status as an undergraduate or graduate student, your status as a resident student or commuter, and your status as a full-time or part-time student will affect your eligibility for aid.

You must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours to receive federal loan funds.

If you haven’t completed your 2022-23 FAFSA, you should get that done immediately. To receive state aid, Georgia residents must complete either the FAFSA or the Institutional Financial Aid Request form & GSFAPP. Please contact financial aid for further instructions.

When do I need to apply for student loans?

To avoid making a payment to Student Accounts, apply for financial aid at least eight weeks prior to the start of the term.

Drops and Withdrawals There is a difference between a drop and a withdrawal!

>>> A drop means that you will not be charged for the class. >>> A withdrawal means that you have incurred those tuition charges.

Make sure to contact Student Accounts and Financial Aid Office before you drop or withdraw from a class!

Please refer to our catalog for more information. Please be aware that in most cases of a withdrawal, financial aid may be reduced and the student may owe a balance. In the instance that a student receives a refund from a drop or withdrawal, the student can expect a refund within two weeks of their financial aid being adjusted.

Book Vouchers Book vouchers are provided approximately two weeks prior to the start date of the term and remain open through the end of the drop-add period.

>>> Book Vouchers are available if there is enough financial aid on the student account to give the student a credit balance.

This means that all charges are covered and there is excess financial aid. Credit balances can be viewed on Self Service.

>>> Please buy your first and second session books during the dates given. (Second session book vouchers are not typically given; however, Student Accounts would determine this on a case-by-case basis.)

>>> Keep your book voucher receipt for your records. A signature is required on your receipt.

No one else may use your book voucher, nor sign for your book voucher receipt.

>>> If your aid changes after you are issued a book voucher, you may owe for books purchased on your voucher. >>> If a refund has been processed, a book voucher will not be available. If a refund has been issued priot to the book voucher being charged, you will owe for the books.

Refund Checks For those who have asked for additional funds, refunds can take up to two weeks after a credit is created on your account.

>>> We estimate that refunds will be sent out around the 6th week of school. Keep in mind that this is just an estimate! >>> We ask that you please refrain from calling to ask if your refund check has been sent; these calls can become time consuming and can actually hinder the refund process.

Student Employment Program 1. Employment Eligibility a. Must be enrolled at least 6 credits hours (undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (graduate). b. Student Employee Classifications a. Piedmont Student Worker Funding provided entirely by Piedmont University. b. Federal Work-Study Student Funding provided by the federal government.

3. Finding a job on campus a. On campus student employment is posted by hiring departments/offices on Piedmont University’s SuccessLink, https://bit.ly/PiedmontSuccessLink. b. Students will apply to available positions by uploading a current student employment application to the hiring department/office of interest.

4. Once Hired a. Print the Student Employment Hire Packet located on Pilgrimnet, under Student Resources, Human Resources, Student Forms. b. Complete and sign all forms along with your supervisor. c. 5. Compensation a. Student workers are eligible to work no more than 20 hours per week, 975 hours a year (August 1 through July 31). b. Student workers are paid an hourly rate of $7.25 on a bi-weekly schedule. c. Student workers not eligible for benefits.

6. Taxation a. Student workers are exempt from Social Security withholdings and Medicare charges during the academic year, with the exception of the summer months if

enrolled less than half-time (6 credit hours undergraduate and 5 credit hours graduate) but will not be required during breaks in the academic year. b. Student Workers and Work Study Students are subject to federal and state income taxes during all periods of employment.

Working during class times is strictly prohibited even if class is released early or cancelled by the instructor. c. Students are expected to work all scheduled hours each week. d. Information to Consider Cost: Joining a fraternity or sorority is a financial commitment. While there is no cost to go through the recruitment process, you can expect to pay dues per semester for the duration of your college career. To find out specific costs and scholarship opportunities, please ask the individual organizations.

Academics: Fraternities and sororities have high academic standards. Potential new members are advised that there is a minimum GPA of 2.5 to join a Greek organization.

Commitment: Joining a fraternity or sorority is a life-long commitment. You should be sure that you are able to commit to each aspect of the organization. Fraternities and sororities aren’t like clubs, in that you can’t quit because you want to. You should read everything carefully that you are asked to sign!

If you have received services through Disability Support in your K-12 instruction, or you are a transfer student from another college or university, you may have questions about how to continue to receive services while you are enrolled at Piedmont University. I am here to help. I have listed frequently asked questions to guide you as you make decisions.

What is OARS?

Will my information be confidential?

The Americans with Disabilities Act defines a person with a disability as a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activity. Through an interactive process, the OARs Coordinator will determine who is eligible for disability services and what accommodations are needed to insure access to academic, housing, dietary, and recreational aspects of University life. Disclosure of a disability is always voluntary. It is important to note that a disability in your K-12 education may have been defined very differently than it will be in your post-secondary experience. Transfer students should also be aware that Universitys and universities may have different requirements for establishing eligibility for disability support. The OARs Coordinator can help guide you through the steps for determining eligibility for services.

Students who would like to establish eligibility for services must make application to initiate an in-take process. Once eligibility is established, the OARs Office will only share information about your disability or your accommodation plan with your written permission.

Students are encouraged to share information about their disability with faculty and staff, but it is always voluntary.

What is an accommodation?

An accommodation is an academic adjustment, including auxiliary aids and services, to ensure that the school does not discriminate on the basis of a disability.

Accommodations must be considered reasonable and appropriate. Piedmont University is not expected to lower or effect substantial modifications that would negatively impact the integrity of academic courses or graduation requirements. Accommodations are developed after careful review of documentation provided by the student. A written plan is then developed and shared with the student’s professors at the student’s request.

Accommodations must be reviewed each semester and are often determined on a course-by-course need.

What kind of documentation do I need?

Documentation must be provided by a qualified professional and is provided at the expense of the student. Documentation must be current (within 2-3 years old) from an accepted professional practice for the evaluator’s field and related to the student’s disability and generally include a statement of a specific diagnosis, description of the individual’s current functional limitations, description of medications, and suggested accommodations. School plans such as the Individualized Education Plan or 504 Plans previously written for a student are not binding on Piedmont University but are reviewed to provide insight into previous needs and services.

What if I have a service animal or want to request an Emotional Support Animal?

As a courtesy, we ask that you notify the Disability Support Office if you will be bringing a service animal to campus. If the service animal will reside on campus, Residential Life will have information regarding the care and safety of your service animal in the residence. A student with a disability requesting an emotion support animal (ESA) should contact the OARsCoordinator to discuss the process for approval.

School districts are responsible for providing special instruction, resources, and services at no cost to the student through an Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Accommodations and delivery of services

The parent or guardian is the primary advocate. FERPA affords rights to parents for access to student records and information.

Self-Advocacy

Cost of evaluations for the purpose of determining eligibility for Disability Services are arranged by the school system at no cost to the parent.

Students are responsible for selfidentifying to the University and providing adequate documentation, including the expense of that documentation for the purpose of equal access.

Students are responsible for self-advocating for reasonable accommodations which are provided at no cost to the student. The University is not responsible for the cost of providing personal aides, note takers, scribes, or special equipment.

Students are expected to be their own advocates. FERPA belongs to the student even if the student is under the age of 18. The student may designate who has access to records and student information.
