Always Numero Uno!

Geir Instanes and Dag A. Aldal, ClampOn’s founders, brought with them the wealth of instrumentation experience they had gained from the oil and gas industry.

ClampOn’s first sensors were supplied to the petroleum industry in 1995 and are still in operation – which is one of the many reasons our slogan is «Always Numero Uno!» This success is built on humble beginnings in 1994, when the company was founded with little money and no products, but very specific ideas and boundless creativity.

The company's founders already had extensive experience with instrumentation for the offshore industry and were used to operating in an international market.

The first instrument developed by the company was a passive acoustic sensor that could be programmed to perform tasks such as sand monitoring, PIG detection and, later, leak detection and vibration monitoring.

Testing is a vital part of improving product quality.

Since the very beginning, ClampOn has aimed to develop and produce the very best equipment of the highest possible quality. To do this we developed a technological platform with intelligent processing, in which the software determines the job the sensor performs.

This strategy has enabled us to continually improve performance, quality and delivery precision.

This approach also allows us to produce large series of instruments and develop first-class logistics, which in turn means profitability – thus completing the chain!

We hope that many potential entrepreneurs will follow our example and even surpass it ; remember that energy, creativity, knowledge and perseverance are worth much more than money as start-up capital.

Today, ClampOn employs around 120 people in Bergen, Norway and in Houston, Texas, and the company is still growing. 90% of our production is exported to wherever in the world petroleum is produced and our engineers work closely with the end-users; the oil companies. In order to succeed we need to have the best people, products and attitude, and every day we must strive to become a little better, for the benefit of our customers and ourselves. Our standards of quality are at least as high today as when we started. As an example, ClampOn has supplied over two thousand subsea systems that have accumulated some 2.7 million days of operation, a figure which corresponds to a record-beating Mean Time to Failure exceeding 1067 years – a result that has taken a good deal of effort to achieve!

ClampOn’s headquarters not only addresses the needs of the company’s employees, technology and production, but is also kind to the environment and reduces energy consumption. Nine geothermic wells together with the many other energy saving measures have created a truly «green» building. It is our playground for innovative engineering. It is here we finished the development of the Subsea Corrosion-Erosion Monitor (CEM), a development that resulted in the prestigious OTC Spotlight on New Technology Award at OTC in 2012.
