INTERVALS The distance between two notes is an interval.

We use ordinal numbers two name the intervals.

INTERVALS Two notes on the same level are not an interval.

They are called unison.

INTERVALS Intervals can be up or down. We use arrows to indicate this characteristic.

Rising musical interval: Descentent musical interval:

INTERVALS The shortest interval is that which has two very close notes. And it is called second distance. – Example: mi-fa or fa-sol

INTERVALS Os intervalos de 2ª son os máis cercanos e chámanse tamén intervalos de grado.

O resto dos intervalos (3ª, 4ª, etc.) son chamados tamén intervalos de salto.

INTERVALS 2 Although these two intervals are 2nds there is one difference between them.

Semitone Minor 2nd

Whole tone Major 2nd

Those 2nds which have ½ tone are called minor 2nds. Those which have 1 tone are called major 2nds.

INTERVALS 2 It happens the same with thirds:

1 tone 1/2 Minor 3rd

Two tones Major 3rd

Those 3rds which have 1 tone and ½ are called minor 3rds. Those which have 2 tones are called major 3rds.
