Our printer, Primex Printers, Inc., also utilizes Kodak Sonora process-free plates, soy-based ink, and a Heidelberg carbon neutral offset press resulting in lesser chemical wastes and air contaminants during the printing process. These show how PERC gives high importance to environmental preservation and to its sustainability journey.

BY THE NUMBERS More than two years into this pandemic made us realize that we cannot just survive its effects but more importantly, we must thrive with all the experiences and learnings.

For the PetroGroup, we have further strengthened our help to our stakeholders by continuing our COVID-19 assistance to communities, promoting nutrition, supporting educational projects, and advocating environmental protection. We have kept our communities engaged with our development efforts and activities. Our corporate social responsibility (CSR) have certainly grown in terms of reach and impact and we will continue to design and implement more programs and projects that will have greater and more sustainable benefits to our stakeholders.

COVID-19 RESPONSE COVID-19 HELP CONTINUES On May 19, 2021, PetroWind Energy Inc. (PWEI) distributed groceries and care kits for its 3rd tranche of COVID-19 response. Beneficiaries included 40 households from Brgy. Napaan, 28 from Sitio Tagubtob of Brgy. Unidos, 23 from Brgy. Pawa, and 16 from Sitio Molada of Brgy. Rizal in Nabas, Aklan. Similar donation drives were conducted by Maibarara Geothermal Inc. (MGI) for select families in Sitio Capuz and Kanayunan of Barangay San Rafael, Sto. Tomas, Batangas and Barangay Puting Lupa, Calamba, last May 16, 2021.

HEALTH IMPROVING HEALTH AND NUTRITION Now on its third year, the “PetroBibo Nutrition Program” of PetroSolar Corporation (PSC) continues to help combat malnutrition by providing vitamins and health supplements to 37 pupils of Parang Elementary School in Concepcion, Tarlac. In Batangas, MGI, in partnership with the Sangguniang Panglungsod of Sto. Tomas, donated medicines to select families in Sto. Tomas, Batangas in June 2021. On June 7, 2022, PWEI officially launched the “Health of Preschoolers Enrichment (HOPE)” Project in Brgy. Napaan, Malay, Aklan. The said project is in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Malay, the Municipal Health Office (MHO), Nutrition Office, and Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO). The event included a lecture on nutrition to parents. PWEI also turned over vitamins to eight (8) childrenbeneficiaries and vegetable starter packs (donated by MAO) to parents so they can grow vegetables in their own backyards.

The HOPE project also includes a yearly feeding program for a total of 220 days and training to parents on proper food preparation for their children. Quarterly assessment will also be conducted to monitor the improvements among malnourished children. The project is a three-year program aimed at helping the said Barangay attain zero undernourished children in the coming years..

EDUCATION CHAMPIONING EDUCATION THROUGH TECHNOLOGY PWEI LAUNCHED BASIC EDUCATION SUPPORT THROUGH TECHNOLOGY (BEST) PROGRAM FOR PAWA PRIMARY SCHOOL On November 11, 2021, PWEI formally launched the “Basic Education Support through Technology (BEST)” Program for Pawa Primary School (PPS). The project employs a holistic approach to address learning needs by delivering basic education through various technological interventions. The program involves loaning of tablets with DepEd approved digital applications. These applications include basic reading comprehension and mathematics. DepEd, through its teachers, will collect baseline data to monitor improvements in the reading skills and understanding of basic math concepts, among the students.

The launching was highlighted by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and the turn-over of school supplies to the parents of 45 student-beneficiaries. The event was attended by the Department of Education (DepEd) Aklan OIC Asst. Division Superintendent - Dr. Jerson B. Labos, Administrative Officer V - Ms. Patrocenia Y. Mamburam, Nabas District Supervisor - Ms. Idy R. Pedrita, and the teaching staff of PPS. PPS Teacher-in-charge Ms. Amie Briones and the DepEd representatives expressed their deep gratitude for PWEI’s support to basic education amidst the challenges brought by the pandemic.

SCHOLARSHIPS PWEI remains committed in helping underprivileged yet deserving students access quality education through scholarships. PWEI welcomed two (2) additional scholars (Batch 6) who are now taking up 4-year courses in Aklan State University. The signing of the agreement with their parents took place last September 27, 2021.

In PSC, ten (10) scholars for the school year 2021-2022 received cash assistance, while MGI awarded three (3) new scholarships to deserving students. MGI scholars are now studying in Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) taking up various programs like Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Psychology. The scholarship covers full tuition, miscellaneous, laboratory and other school fees. In addition, MGI donated desktops to its scholars who needed to access MCL’s online virtual learning system.

ADOPT-A-SCHOOL PROGRAM

As part of its Adopt-a-School Program, PWEI turned over school supplies and construction materials to Napaan Elementary School on December 6, 2021 and to Gibon Elementary School on December 14, 2021.

Rizal Elementary School received from PWEI colorcoded waste bins and painting materials, while Pawa Primary School was given construction materials to improve its Kindergarten room and COVID-19 kits in preparation for their faceto-face classes.On February

On February 3, 2022, PWEI turned-over one (1) unit of printer to Unidos Elementary School and one (1) unit of printer and temperature scanner to Rizal Elementary School.

BRIGADA ESKWELA MGI, in partnership with the Laguna Provincial Library (LPL) and Puting Lupa Elementary School (PLES), conducted a reading caravan last December 9, 2021 in Sitio Capuz, San Rafael, Sto. Tomas, Batangas. The activity was held to support the “Brigada Pagbasa” of the Department of Education (DepEd).

A total of 84 students of PLES joined the caravan and received reading books and educational materials from MGI and LPL. Storytelling and educational learning games were also conducted. The activity aimed at increasing children’s reading skills and help them overcome the effects of Pandemic.

MGI also donated painting materials to Puting Lupa Elementary School (PLES) for the improvement of their school facilities last December 3, 2021.

LIVELIHOOD Our LIVELIHOOD PROGRAMS are anchored on sustainability and resilience. We employ a systematic approach consisting of regular community consultations, active participation of community members and adequate social preparation.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS

WASTE TO ECOBRICK MGI’s Waste to Ecobrick Project dubbed as “Pulot, Palit, Proyekto” was launched last March 7, 2022 at Puting Lupa Elementary School. The launching was attended by school officials, LGU representatives, parents, and teachers. Green Antz Builders, Inc., who will be producing the ecobricks from the collected wastes, also attended the event. A ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement was held after a short program. The Ecobrick project will run for 10 months from March to December 2022. During this period, students of Puting Lupa Elementary School may exchange 1 kg of clean plastic waste for 2 kgs of rice. The collected waste will be stored in the school and will be collected by Green Antz Builders, for processing. A 75 kgs of waste will be used to produce about 2,500 ecobricks, which will be donated to the school for the consturction of the schoo’s pathway.

Environmental Month Celebration EARTH DAY AND EARTH HOUR CELEBRATIONS A joint tree planting of MGI and Light Industry and Science Park III (LISP) was held on April 22, 2022, in celebration of Earth Day. The tree planting was attended by representatives from LISP, headed by their managers and Pollution Control Officers (PCO) of various locators of the Park. Around 200 Indian tree seedlings were planted inside the compound of LISP. In Tarlac, PSC celebrated Earth Day by planting papaya trees within the PSC area last April 22, 2022. In celebration of Earth Hour last March 26, 2022, all sites turned-off their nonessential lights for an hour. With the theme, “Shape Our Future”, the Earth Hour yearly celebration aims to help reduce carbon emission.

ENVIRONMENTAL MONTH MGI celebrated the environmental month through planting of flowering shrubs inside the facility. MGI employees and contractors joined the activity last June 5, 2021.

In Aklan on the other hand, PWEI conducted its annual “Dagyaw para sa Kagueangan Year 7” through a community planting contest titled “PlanTREE”. Residents of PWEI’s host barangays planted seedlings in their own backyards. The participants were asked to post photos of the plants on their respective social media accounts. The activity aims to inspire the communities to plant more trees and promote climate change resiliency.

RECOVER, REUSE, RECYCLE EDUCATION (RRRE) PROGRAM

On September 13, 2021, PWEI donated 22 pcs of used tires to be reused in the beautification of Unidos Elementary School premises. The activity intends to promote awareness on environmental potection and ecological preservation.

Support to Local Government Units

IMPLEMENTATION OF ER-194 In response to the Department of Energy (DOE) circular allowing the direct utilization of the ER 1-94 fund to help the host LGUs combat the spread of COVID 19 and enhance the health services, MGI assisted its host Barangays in the preparation of project proposals to DOE. Barangay San Rafael used the ER 1-94 share to purchase one (1) ambulance, while the City of Sto. Tomas used its share to construct an isolation facility for COVID-19 patients. In PSC on the other hand, the ER1-94 funds were used for the construction and rehabilitation of drainage canals in Brgy Lourdes, Tarlac.
