2020 was supposed to be the year of clear vision, of clarity, of laser-sharp focus.

COVID-19 has made everything blurry and foggy and has blind-sided us all.

The news is changing by the minute, and we at Physician Outlook found ourselves deferring articles we had planned for this issue to replace them with content that is more relevant to the current crisis. March 2020 marks the 5th anniversary of National Physicians Week (March 25-31), and this issue’s original theme was to celebrate our fellow doctors who have dedicated their lives to the practice of medicine.

Instead, we find ourselves in the midst of a worldwide novel coronavirus pandemic, and it is more important than ever to have a reliable source for physicians and patients to turn to. This magazine started out as a hobby for me--a place to express my new-found voice as a physician advocate, a vehicle to help physicians combat burn-out, and a forum to connect directly with patients and with other physicians. What started as a “side gig” of sorts has now become a platform of national importance as the coronavirus throws Physician Outlook into the limelight.

Physician Outlook is a labor of love, and my goal is not to drown out other voices but to unite those voices with a tool for education, a conduit of introduction, a place of peace, unity, and collaboration. It is a publication where the right and the left can meet to take us back to inclusive physician-led, team-based care—a place where red and blue can become purple.
