The oneiric house as hermitage “To make their home in the world, that is, to build, human beings must gain more than physical control, they must establish spiritual control. To do so they must wrest order from what at first seems contingent, fleeting, and confusing, transforming chaos into cosmos.”

The oneiric house as stage The theatre is showcased on the stage where worlds are created and the realm of make believe is presented. The stage (like film and music) becomes a clear event highlighting movement | temporal progression | the senses | and the threshold of reality.

Tschumi’s dictum: “there is no space without event”, has led to spatial consideration being given to time, action and movement in architecture. Architecture is perceived as space-in-flux and not as a fixed and enduring object.

The stage articulates the movement of bodies in space. Performers un-house theatre by letting it wander into other sites and fold into the realm of dreams.

This project challenges students to design a single structure that can transform|morph| transcend its body (form, function, type and thresholds) to accommodate the two most opposite environmental modes: private house and public space. By transforming|morphing|transcending its body, the structure explores the realm of souls through a dreamspace inspired by the lyrics of the artist Lira.
