Part of celebarting the 602 means celebrating the women and men who keep the City of Phoenix running (That’s you!)

If you have a co-worker who deserves to be recognized for their hard work, send them a digital Kudos Card It takes just a minute to fill out the form and then on June 2, their digital Kudos Card will be delivered to their work email. Send as many as you’d like. The Kudos Cards are available to send through Thursday, May 29.

Get moving with this year’s On the Move with 602 Step Challenge

This year’s challenge will begin on Monday, June 2 This is perfect for groups of co-workers to team up for a friendly challenge against others in your office or across different departments

For those who registered last month, you will need to register again for this new event along with everyone else when registration starts soon Bonus: You can now have teams of seven people - so start forming your teams!

Every participant will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a prize. The step challenge goes through the end of June.

Note: Prizes or gift cards earned in this wellness event are considered taxable income and will be reported on employees’ W-2 forms, subject to wage withholding and taxes

This year, there will be two events for employees to gather and celebrate 602 Day With supervisor approval, all City employees are invited to take a moment to have some fun with the planned activities

Both events will have food available for sale, games and activities, photo booth, and giveaways

You can also pre-order a special limited-edition 602 Day T-shirt through State Forty Eight To receive yours by June 2, you need to order yours by Friday, May 16

Many City of Phoenix employees work together in keeping the community safe during the Summer heat. It’s equally important to make sure our own team stays safe, too.

Employees are encouraged to take the Heat Relief Services Promotion Training in PHXYou to learn about the City’s heat relief efforts, heat stroke vs. heat exhaustion, as well as the differences between a hydration station and a cooling and respite center Employees can use course code CMO107-ONL-Heat Relief Services Promotion

Protect Your Own Health

Stay Hydrated: Drink water and electrolyte drinks throughout the day

If you feel thirsty, you may already be dehydrated

Rest: If outdoors for an extended period of time, take regular breaks and cool down indoors or in shaded areas protected from direct sunlight

Listen to your body: Common symptoms of heat stress include headaches, excessive sweating, thirst, nausea and dizziness If you experience any symptoms, take action to cool, hydrate, rest, and if necessary, seek medical care If you are at work, communicate with your supervisor right away.

Additional information regarding heat safety for employees working outdoors can be found in your department’s Heat Illness and Injury Prevention Plan or by contacting your department’s safety representative.

Film Discussion: Intersexion

The next Phoenix LGBTQ Employee Alliance film discussion is based on the film Intersexion. Participants are encouraged to watch the film ahead of time as it is not shown during the discussion session. 3x Cultural Competency Credits are being offered with your attendance.

Sign Up for Stop the Bleed Training

Stop the Bleed stations are being installed in many City facilities! In-person Trauma Bleeding Control trainings are now being offered to employees so they can learn how to control bleeding until first responders arrive and how to perform hands-only CPR

ComPsych is also offering a mental health awareness webinar This training is designed to promote ways of supporting one another in the workplace

Too frequently the response to mental health concerns in the workplace is confusion, fear, judgment, avoidance, and out-right rejection. This leads to a worsening of symptoms and a deterioration of performance.

The session will address signs and symptoms of distress and effective ways of providing support for co-workers.

Street Transportation Department

The Street Transportation Department is seeking Chief Construction Inspectors in the Design and Construction Management Division This position is responsible for inspecting construction projects such as streets, storm drains, bridges, water and sewer mains, and other specialized projects to ensure compliance with standard and special specifications Additional responsibilities include enforcing requirements on detailed drawings, plans, standards, and associated construction practices

Key duties:

Perform inspections of construction projects, streets, bridges, storm drain, and bike lanes.

Inspect materials grades, and other work for compliance with standard and special specifications, details, plans, and standard construction practices

Prepare monthly estimates of work completed for payment for contractors

Review documentation for Extra Work and write Adjustments for payments

Install compliant facilities adhering to the American with Disability guidelines

Ensure proper safety and traffic control procedures are followed.

Review Senior Construction Inspector Daily Reports, Extra Work, and Pay Estimates.

Oversee and train Senior Construction Inspectors, while managing their own construction projects.

Perform project construction coordination with City Departments, Utility Companies, and other Neighboring Cities
