01 INTO THE SOLITUDE
Since the start of early humans civilization, our society has been obsessed with building public spaces with the hope that it will increase social interaction between people. However, I have wondered if what we need is not a public space for the group but a space just for an individual. Society has not taken the time to not having the time to acquire values of substance for each other (Walden, 1997). Perhaps we need solitude, to take a breath, think and reflect. This thesis is a study of a public individual space in order to define what is an individual intimate space that allows one to think.

Due to the rapid change in technology, society is switching from the traditional value of watching the News together in a living room environment. Social media is a new tool to access the News.
KPBS is a radio station, and they see themselves in the future as a data center that can gather, store, and provide information to the community. From site analysis, it is clear to say that KPBS does not have any engagement with the context and the users. To eliminate this problem, it is necessary to analyze the meaning of the News to the community. Every day, the News inform issues and raise awareness. The News might be ‚negative,‘ but they are ‚true‘ and needed. Solid and void are chosen to express this aspect of the News. After all, that void leaves space for interpretation, imagination, and memory.z

STRUCTURE
Located at 1149 National City Blvd., it situates at the border of three different developing districts, it is clear that the character of the site is diverse. It is essential to create a place that can accommodate a variety of communities. Our focus is to design a place that incorporates these ideas with the specific plan’s goal of creating a “live, work, play” community into the design. Cultural activity such as art show and small-scale outdoor festival are examples of events that we imagined what would bring people to the park.
To accommodate the people who live there, National Point has different kinds of units that would be suitable for one person to a family of five. The units are designed as small as possible so that people would feel more comfortable spending time outside in the park or the share common indoor and outdoor space. It is to encourage social interaction between residents and people from outside, also to encourage physical activities that would promote a healthy lifestyle.
site plan
National Point is not just a transition point that brings people to the park by the train proposal. Its mission is to create a cultural hub that embraces the “live, work, play” lifestyle. With the ability to accommodate different kinds of people, diversity would revitalize life around the park and also enhance National City’s culture.
form configuration
As this project is a part of the city development plan, there is a need to address issue such as traffic and connection. National Point is a location that welcome people to National City and to the park with a station point. Also a continuous path from other blocks that passing through the courtyard and to the park.

It is often said that childhood is the best part of a person’s life. We are shaped by our experiences as children and often yearn and desire to relive those experiences again. Our design aspires to create an environment that accentuates the timeless nature of childhood and the energetic qualities that are synonymous with that age. Our main concept was to create a porous construct that allows glimpses into childhood. One of our main inspirations was J.M.Barrie’s Neverland and the tale of Peter Pan. This coupled with the exploration of the meaning of childhood was the driver of our thinking for creating spaces that allow and enable children to be spontaneous, explorative and independent. Our design does not only focus on children but on the childhood experience overall and to allow all ages to engage with that side naturally, once again.
