Balloons of Positivity, Solidarity and Hope

A

group of young people, children and adults, gathered in a Birmingham to take a stand for something positive in the City. ‘The Feast’ was a response to the ongoing ‘Trojan Horse’ investigation, with the idea of bringing young people together to formed friendships based on respect and honesty with people who they would not normally

mix with and showcase examples of the community cohesion that is already exists in Birmingham. It was a celebration of positivity in action. Formed predominately from the Christian and Muslim faiths, they gave out balloons with personal messages of hope, to show that prejudice and fear do not need to keep them apart.

tephen Sutton is an inspirational teenager who has helped raise over £3 million for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Since his diagnosis in 2010, Stephen has never once stopped to feel sorry for himself. He has picked himself up, and been motivated to not let his illness own him, and to cram as much into the time he does have as is possible. Stephen shot to mainstream media attention on 21st April, when he posted a farewell to his followers on Facebook. “It’s a final thumbs up from me! I’ve done well to blag things as well as I have up till now, but unfortunately I think this is just one hurdle too far.” Said Stephen after being rushed to hospital with a collapsed lung.

Positivity

Comedian Jason Manford, whom Stephen had met previously through his bucket list and fundraising helped to share out Stephens Story, and the hashtag #stephensstory spread like wildfire, with many celebrities backing his cause. Within days, Stephen’s JustGiving hit its £1 million target, and then doubled it, before tripling it on April 28th. Since the 21st, Stephen literally coughed up a tumour which dramatically improved his health, and after consultation with his medical team, should be going in for an operation that just a week earlier was not possible due to how weak he was.
