T

his year’s Lord Mayor was ushered into office with a fantastic show with a fun-packed, midsummer-themed family friendly event. Birmingham's annual Lord Mayors Show in Victoria and Chamberlain Squares raised money for charities as it welcomed the city's new Lord and Lady Mayoress, Councillor Shafique Shah, and wife Sadia Shafique and bid a fond farewell to the outgoing Lord Mayor, Councillor Mike Leddy, who were joined by Lord Mayors and Deputy Lord Mayors from across the West Midlands before touring the city on the Big Brum Open Top Buz. With entertainment including an outdoor theatre production of Peter Pan and the Lost Boys by local group Heartbreak Productions, and excerpts from some of Shakespeare’s most wellknown plays by students from Birmingham Ormiston Academy. Also available were free craft workshops and face painting in Victoria Square and the Scouts and Guides had a mini-climbing wall and giant games.
