Community Forever As we make plans to realise long-held ambitions for Phoenix Arts, I’m reminded of the wonderful community that has supported us in our transition to becoming an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation.

This community has applauded our progress and encouraged me to look closer to home for talent to develop.

Reflecting on this encouragement, I’d like to highlight 3 community-influenced opportunities to engage with us.

Our 2024 Spring Art Exhibition follows the success of our first open exhibition in October, with 20 artists submitting 130 pieces of work and 100 people attending the grand opening, showing their support for local artist opportunities. In March 2024, I’ll be launching a new project called Every Other Mother in partnership with Sally McIlhone. A young mum herself, Sally and I want to offer a safe space for mums to express themselves creatively. It’ll be kid friendly and for women only! The third community-influenced opportunity I’d like to highlight is our Dragonfly Accessible Disco & Party. Building on our disability arts programme and influenced by the incredible Frozen Light, this sensory explosion of taste, smell and sound is about having fun.

I look forward to your next visit and whatever your cultural tastes, Phoenix Arts is local and guided by you.

Dragonfly Accessible Performance: Frozen PG Friday 12th January 11:00 AM | Tickets: £5.00 (Carers Go Free) Film Elsa (Indina Menzel), the newly crowned Queen of Arendelle, accidentally turns things into ice and causes her homeland to have an infinite winter. Her sister Anna (Kristen Bell) teams up with Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), a mountain man with a very playful reindeer called Sven, and Olaf (Josh Gad) a snowman. They will endure the conditions to save their kingdom.

Phoenix Cinema: Barbie 12A Wednesday 24th January 7:30 PM | Tickets: £6.00 (Concs/Members £5.00) Film Barbie (Margot Robbie) is having the time of her life in the colourful and seemingly perfect world of Barbie Land. However, Barbie must leave Barbie Land because she is no longer perfect, she has to go to the real world and find the girl that is playing with her. Whilst in the real world she learns that everything isn’t perfect and brings this information back to all the Barbies...but is it too late?

We bring you another belting line up featuring Ben van Der Velde, Danny Deegan and Tony Cowards! Ben is a stand-up comedian, actor, improviser and presenter who has travelled the world spreading joy and nonsense. Danny brings confidence and swagger to his sets as he tells the tales of mischief. Tony is a rapid fire gag merchant who’s stocked up with one-liners.

Chopped Liver & Unions 12+ Friday 2nd February 7:30 PM | Tickets: £15.00 (Concs/Members £14.00) Theatre A tale from a century ago but very much a play for today, Chopped Liver & Unions is a one-woman play that gives a vivid account of the life of a woman who is largely forgotten but deserves to be revered as a feminist icon. With no income or savings the strikers she helped lead became famous for singing on the picket lines in return for coins from well-wishers. Join us as we sing Sara’s protest songs and celebrate her life.

Jo Caulfield: Here Comes Trouble 16+ Sunday 4th February 7:30 PM Tickets: £18.00 Comedy Voted Comedians’ Comedian of The Year 2021/2022, Jo Caulfield is quite simply one of the most consistently funny and creative comics in the country.

Hot on the heels of her sell-out Edinburgh Fringe run, Here Comes Trouble is packed with brilliant routines and fantastically embarrassing stories.

Audiences can expect razor-sharp observations and scandalous oneliners as Jo gets her claws into everything and everyone.

Dragonfly Accessible Performance: Sherlock Gnomes U Friday 9th February 11:00 AM | Tickets: £5.00 (Carers Go Free) Film Sherlock Gnomes (Johnny Depp) and his assistant, Dr. Gnome Watson (Chiwetel Ejiofor), storm into London’s natural history museum, where their nemesis, a pie mascot named Moriarty (Jamie Demetriou), is holding gnomes hostage, planning to smash them. Meanwhile, Gnomeo (James McAvoy) and Juliet (Emily Blunt), as well as the other gnomes, are moving to London.

Lesley Carver: An Evening Of Clairvoyance 14+ Event Friday 9th & Saturday 10th February 7:30 PM | Tickets: £15.00 Lesley has been working as a Psychic Medium for 15 years and continues to meet lovely people and help them to get closure and move on with their lives. National Theatre Live: Vanya Thursday 22nd February 7:00 PM | Tickets: £14.00 Theatre Film Andrew Scott (Fleabag) brings multiple characters to life in Simon Stephens’ (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time) radical new version of Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya. Hopes, dreams, and regrets are thrust into sharp focus in this one-man adaptation which explores the complexities of human emotions. Filmed live during its sold-out run in London’s West End, Vanya will be playing exclusively in cinemas in 2024.

Just Cool Cinema @ The Cube: The Big Lebowski 18 Thursday 22nd February 8:00 PM | Tickets: £12.00 (Includes A Meal From The Shed) Film When Jeff “The Dude” Lebowski (Jeff Bridges) is mistaken for a millionaire Jeff Lebowski (David Huddleston), two thugs urinate on his rug to coerce him into paying a debt he knows nothing about. Come and hear how she got the job by dressing as a bistro table; what it was really like inside one of those (surprisingly large) Tubby suits; how the NooNoo really worked and why children loved the show so much.

Dominic Frisby: An Evening Of Curious Songs 12+ Saturday 23rd March 8:00 PM | Tickets: £14.00 Music Comedy An experienced stand up and prolific writer of comic songs, Dominic’s new show is a collection of anecdotes, jokes and music accompanied by one of Europe’s top jazz pianists, Chad Lelong. A prominent libertarian, his take on modern Britain and the issues it faces is both refreshing and funny. Not suitable for statists, crony capitalists or the metropolitan liberal elite.

Phoenix Cinema: Asteroid City 12A Wednesday 27th March 7:30 PM | Tickets: £6.00 (Concs/Members £5.00) Film In a 1950s retro-futuristic TV special, a host introduces a documentary on the creation of a fictional play, “Asteroid City,” by playwright Conrad Earp. The play unfolds at a youth astronomy convention in the desert town of Asteroid City. War photojournalist Augie Steenbeck arrives with his family, facing personal challenges.

A romance blossoms among the characters, and a UFO incident puts the town under military quarantine.

Phoenix Cinema: The Great Escaper 12A Tuesday 2nd April 2:30 PM | Tickets: £6.00 (Concs/Members £5.00) Film Based on a true love story. In the summer of 2014, Bernard Jordan (Michael Caine) made global headlines.

He had staged a ‘great escape’ from his care home to join fellow war veterans on a beach in Normandy, commemorating their fallen comrades at the D-Day Landings 70th anniversary. A story that captured the imagination of the world as he embodied the defiant, ‘can-do’ spirit of a generation that was fast disappearing.

Spring Art Exhibition Saturday 6th April 11:00 AM | Tickets: Free, Donations Welcome Event Following in the creative footsteps of The Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition, this is the second collaboration between Phoenix Arts and Whitehill Town Council. The art exhibition is open to all and is a great window for local artists to showcase their work at East Hampshire’s leading arts organisation.

Dragonfly Accessible Performance: Finding Dory U Friday 12th April 11:00 AM | Tickets: £5.00 (Carers Go Free) Film Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) is a wide-eyed, blue tang fish who suffers from memory loss every 10 seconds or so.

The one thing she can remember is that she somehow became separated from her parents as a child. With the help of her friends Nemo (Hayden Rolence) and Marlin (Albert Brooks), Dory embarks on an epic adventure to find them.

All this just for £12.00! Jimmy Cooper (Phil Daniels) loathes his dead-end job and his working -class parents. Phoenix Arts is excited to open its doors for the second time to a sensory infusion of taste, smell and sound.

Disability Arts Practioners Elizabeth Blake and Will Hughes will be leading the event with DJ Sam mixing the music. Included in the venue’s transformation will be a cool breakout space should partygoers need to take 5.

An Evening With Daisy Beau Friday 26th April 8:00 PM | Tickets: £12.50 Music An indie folk icon in the making, Daisy Beau is an authentic and innovative musical force. Join her on a musical odyssey, where she’ll open up her treasure trove of songs. This is also great for people returning to exercise after an injury or illness.

Transport is available from the Community First accessible minibus for an additional £2.00 per session.

Firebird Youth Dance Thursdays 4:00 PM - 4:45 PM (During Term Time) Suitable For Ages: 4 - 7 | Price: £25.00 Per Half Term A fun modern dance class for 4 -7 yr olds. The class is a lively and engaging introduction to the basic elements of dance and aims to develop confidence, coordination and the ability to follow instructions and to enjoy working well with others. Children have the opportunity to show the routines they have learned in an informal performance in the Phoenix theatre at the end of term.

Class members also get discounts on selected shows at The Phoenix.

Led By Charlie Essex, Youth Theatre Director Tuesdays During Term Time Spring Term Starts 9th January 2024 Summer Term Starts 16th April 2024 Be part of something wonderful, The Phoenix Youth Theatre is open for everyone.

Have fun, develop new skills and create amazing stories, alongside professional theatre makers.

Working with likeminded young people in supportive groups led by theatre professionals you will learn theatre making skills, create dynamic theatre productions and have fun in weekly term time workshops.

Youth Theatre members also get discounts on selected shows at The Phoenix throughout the year.

Phoenix Players

Mondays & Thursdays 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM All Are Welcome The Phoenix Players are an Amateur Dramatics Group based at The Phoenix Theatre. They stage a number of wide-ranging shows during the year, including plays, musicals, comedies, and their popular pantomime (every January).

They welcome anyone who wants to get involved, so why not pop along and get to know the group at one of their socials?

They have social events throughout the year and have regular workshops or karaoke nights when they’re not rehearsing their next show.

If being on stage isn’t your thing, get involved elsewhere. The Players always need set builders, painters, costumers and makeup artists – not to mention lighting and sound wizards.

When rehearsing a show, they meet Mondays and Thursdays 7:30-10:00 PM at The Phoenix Theatre.

Red Riding Hood - Phoenix Players Pantomime Join Red Riding Hood for an exciting adventure full of fun on a journey with her friends through the deep, dark forest to Granny’s house. Unfortunately, the big Bad Wolf has other ideas... He’s crafty and cunning, setting out to undo Red’s plans and feast on Granny and Red for supper.

The class, which incorporates sensory props and musical instruments, is primarily chair based and suitable for wheelchair users but can also include some fun freestyle dancing.

Phoenix Community Choir

Led By Ysanne Bonner, Choir Master Thursdays 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM (During Term Time) Suitable For People Aged 16+ | Price: £50.00 Per Term Are you a fan of singing and embracing joyful moments? If so, The Phoenix Community Choir is tailor-made for you!

This choir warmly welcomes all who are eager to join, offering a splendid avenue to forge friendships and harmonise in captivating 2, 3, and 4-part melodies alongside fellow singing enthusiasts. No musical notation skills are required, and there are no auditions – just a passion for singing is all that’s needed! Led By Sophie Greeff 1st Friday Of The Month 7:30 PM - 11:00 PM Suitable For All Ages | Recommended Price: £2.00 Per Session Come along and play your favourite board game or try a new one at our monthly meet up at The Phoenix Theatre.

Bring some games from your collection or just bring yourself and join in the fun. We are a mixed age group and have a variety of board game experience. We are open to all ages but people who are under the age of 14 will need someone over the age of 18 to stay with them.

It is a “pay what you can” event so all donations welcome.

Alice & Ginny Sewing Sewing Socials

Saturday 17th & 24th February & 2nd, 9th, 16th & 23rd March 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Suitable For All Ages | Price: £85.00 Per Course Alice & Ginny’s hugely popular sewing socials offer you a full day of indulgent sewing, in a small group of eight where they support and guide you with your ongoing projects. It’s always a fun day and a great opportunity to have your toiles fitted, learn some new techniques, get heaps of sewing advice, complete your UFO’s (unfinished objects) or make something new!

As well as the sewing, there’s lots of chat and laughter, tea, coffee and cake are on offer and a delicious light lunch included on the day. All levels of ability are welcome.

Saturday Sewing Course Dates To Be Announced 10:30 AM - 4:30 PM Suitable For All Ages | Price: £150.00 Half Day, £300.00 Full Day A four week course offering you the opportunity to work on sewing projects of your own choice under the guidance of Alice. Whilst garment making is always extremely popular (with a focus on getting a good fit for your handmade clothes), it could be that you’d like to create some soft furnishings or perhaps use up all of your scraps on a patchwork quilt. The possibilities are endless.

The joy of Saturday sewing is that as you step into the class, you leave the week behind and recharge your batteries with some dedicated sewing time in great company. Did we mention that there is tea, coffee and cake too! Just perfect!

Street Nation Led By Street Nation

Little Dudes Tuesdays 4:45 PM - 5:30 PM (During Term Time) Suitable For Ages 4 - 6 | Price: £49.20 Per Half Term They will learn an understanding of music and beats, learning a basic 8 count which will be adapted through the classes. Most importantly with Little Dudes we aim for creativity, imagination and fun whilst learning the latest Hip-Hop moves and working as a team to form routines with a beginning and end.

Street Poppers Tuesdays 5:30 PM - 6:15 PM (During Term Time) Suitable For Ages 7 - 8 | Price: £49.20 Per Half Term Street Poppers is a gateway between Little Dudes and Street Stompers. Street Nation begin to introduce floor work and skill based activities whilst continuing to develop the skills they have learnt at Little Dudes. Learning and setting the groundwork for them to move on to Street Stompers with more intricate moves.

Street Stompers Tuesdays 6:15 PM - 7:00 PM (During Term Time) Suitable For Ages 9 - 11 | Price: £49.20 Per Half Term In this class Street Nation takes the 8 beats further to include half beats, creating more layers to a routine. The moves become more intricate, and Street Nation begins to introduce cannons and formations. Street Nation also encourages time for the Street Stompers to create their own choreography.

Concessions: Specific shows might have a ticket at reduced rate. These rates are avaliable for those under 18, full-time students, registered disabled, unemployed and senior citizens (over 65).

Phoenix Membership: A yearly membership costs £15.00 per person for adults, £7.50 for concessions and £30.00 for a family membership.

Parking: All our venues have parking nearby. The Phoenix Theatre has FREE parking with disabled bays at the rear of the building. The Cube utilises The Shed’s parking which is pay on exit, with the first 2 hours FREE and also free after 6pm.

Bar: The Phoenix Theatre has a fully licensed bar which opens an hour before each performance.

Access: The Phoenix Theatre is fully accessible. Our staff and volunteers are committed to providing theatre & arts for all of our community, if you have any queries or want to discuss your needs please get in touch.

Rob’s Theatre Club: Sign up on our website to become a member. By being a member you will receive a discount on exclusive shows, a complimentary glass of wine and opportunities to meet the cast and company after the show. Look for the “Rob’s Theatre Club“ symbol.
