Access for All

I like to think we should be proud of our work within the Disability Arts sector. Our work for those with access requirements generally has only been restricted by a building that, although much-loved, was built when the Disability Discrimination Act was still 88 years away. Let’s change all that!

With the recent announcement that East Hampshire District Council has awarded us a major s106 grant, we are committed to enhancing access to The Phoenix Theatre. How will this look? Included in the works will be a new entranceway at the front of the building, including new doors fitted with accessibility buttons, and the addition of a ramp. Once inside, a lift will provide access to the first floor, so all can enjoy the activities in our upstairs rooms and access to the Green Room and Dressing Room for all performers. The upstairs toilets will become an accessible gender-neutral toilet adjacent to our Dance Studio. With all significant work due to start in 2024, there’s still time for you to let me know your thoughts; have we forgotten anything?

I look forward to your next visit and whatever your cultural tastes Phoenix Arts is local and guided by you.

Thank you to our friends at...
