Description of Work:
At Philly Shipyard, Inc., we build ships for both commercial and government markets. Our Pennsylvania Department of Labor approved registered apprenticeship program includes three occupations with each spanning three years in length:

Ste tter/P tter (BTJ)
The scope of work of the Ste tter/P tter encompasses installation and servicing of systems requiring piping. This includes steam and hot water heating systems, air conditioning/refrigeration systems, chemical & petrochemical plants and complete environmental systems in hospitals, schools, churches, high rise of , and apartment buildings. The trade includes joining pipe mechanically and metallurgically by craft both on the job (OTJ) and in the classroom. Our occupations require 2,000 hours OTJ per year and 144 hours of Related Technical Instruction (RTI). Apprentices are full-time union employees from day one. soldering, brazing, or welding. It also includes erecting and working on scaffolding, interpreting blueprints, and writing technical reports. Measuring, cutting, and fabricating piping or tubing using mechanical equipment is also the work of the Ste tter.

The scope of the MESS encompasses service and maintenance of commercial air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation and heating equipment and similar systems. Electric, gas & oil red, hydronic and forced air equipment, associated combustion controls, and temperature/humidity controls are included. Building automation equipment service is also included.
Rocess
Apprentices work in a variety of locations throughout the shipyard and must be willing to work in a variety of environments, such as hot and cold weather. Apprentices must be willing to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), be on-time, and be a reliable team member.

The application period extends throughout the year and classes start in Applicants apply at the training center .
Apprentices begin at 60% of the Journeyworker wage and receive increases at 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 18 months, 24 months, 28 months, 32 months, and 36 months, marking full Journeyworker wage and status.
Along with the completed application applicants must submit documentation of:

• Drug & Alcohol Policy Form
• Form I9- Employment Eligibility V Form
• Copy of applicant ’s high school diploma
• Of ranscript
• High School Equivalency Graduate Requirements – Three (3): o Copy of GED C o Of Test Scores o Of ranscript – regarding all high schools attended
• Copy of Military Form DD214 Discharge/Separation Form if applicable
