Swinging Into Politics Simon ‘One Punch’ Carr Finds His Way Into Philly Politics by Cassie Hepler His face may seem familiar. And his style is pretty fresh for the Philly political scene. Most recently spotted at A’s Diner in Manayunk at the Curtis Jones, Jr. holiday party gathering, we caught up with him for an interview to find out who this boxer with political pull really is and how he got his swinging nickname. “It was originally given to me from the trainers in the gym because part of me was a boxer and the other part of me, rather my style, was a power puncher. As I developed as a fighter, the name just became more and more appropriate. I grew into it,” he said. Originally from South Philly, he was born and raised there. And he keeps paying it forward by giving back to the community. “I try to do something special a few times a year on a large scale for the kids. I was focused on the ‘ToyN-the-Hood” drive. It is a great project and I hope I touched a lot of lives and made a lot of kids smile over the holiday season. As a mentor and mo-
