DAs: Spend Sandusky $$ On Children’s Advocates District Attorneys throughout Pennsylvania urged yesterday that Children’s Advocacy Centers should be considered the priority when funding decisions are made regarding the $60 million NCAA endowment created by a consent decree to assist victims of child abuse.

In a letter to Penn State University President Rodney Erickson and NCAA President Mark Emmert, the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association said expanding access to CAC services, which offer a comprehensive approach in assisting child sexual abuse victims, including treatment, prosecution and prevention, would best fulfill the requirements of the consent decree. Penn State University is expected to administer the fund.

“In our analysis Pennsylvania’s Children’s Advocacy Centers should be considered the priority for the NCAA endowment’s funding,” PDAA President and Adams Co. District Attorney Shawn Wagner said. “Moving forward, district attorneys want to ensure that all of the good intentions currently spotlighting the issue of child sexual abuse are directed

and focused on proven services that promote healing and justice for victims and hold their abusers accountable for their criminal acts.”

“It is sad and extremely frustrating that there are children who have endured the horrors of sexual abuse and are not able to get the services they need because of the lack of adequate funding,” said Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams.

CACs are county-based, utilizing multi-disciplinary teams providing proven, comprehensive services in the areas of child-abuse prevention, investigation and healing for victims and their families. In Pennsylvania, only 21 out of 67 counties are able to offer CAC services to child victims of sexual abuse and other crimes. Their lack of geographic reach and dedicated funding sources currently make it impossible for their services to reach all of Pennsylvania’s children and families. Budgetary decisions are made on an annual basis and depend upon grant applications and local fundraising efforts.

ing, concerts, auto races, track and field events, the Special Olympics, a Papal Mass, the Mummer's Show of Shows, Canadian football and many other fabulous events. It seated about 110,000 people. With that

seating capacity, it was then the largest stadium in the United States. It is now a parking lot. A new sports stadium will be built on the former site.

KING LAUNDRY - was a big commercial laundry at 11th & Emily Streets. There they washed, dried and ironed many articles of clothing, including bed sheets and tablecloths. The items were picked up at one's home weekly, washed, packaged and returned to the homemaker.

The laundry had cloth-sided carts into which the laundry was placed. These carts were used to move the laundry to and from the various machines. Huge, numbered safety pins were inserted into the laundry bags to identify them.

Guv Authorizes Execution For Philadelphia Killer Gov. Tom Corbett has signed an execution warrant for Terrance Williams, who was convicted in 1986 of first-degree murder, robbery and conspiracy for the robbing and beating death of Amos Norwood.

Williams’ sentence was formally imposed on July 1, 1987.

On Jun. 11, 1984, Williams and his co-conspirator, Marc Draper, got into a car driven by Norwood, an acquaintance of Williams. They then directed Norwood to a remote location next to a Philadelphia cemetery.

Williams and Draper forced Norwood to lie on the ground, tied him up and gagged him, then stole his valuables. Williams and Draper repeatedly beat the man with a tire iron and a socket wrench and then drove away in the victim’s car. Williams later re-

turned and burned Norwood’s body.

Four days later, Norwood’s body was discovered by a child walking his dog through the cemetery. Police arrested the two men the following month.

Draper pled guilty to second-degree murder and criminal conspiracy and was sentenced to life in prison.

Williams, now 46, is a prisoner at the State Correctional Institution at Greene. His execution has been scheduled for Oct. 3, 2012.

This warrant, signed Wednesday, is Corbett’s 16th execution warrant.

Executions in Pennsylvania are carried out by lethal injection.

Casey: City Will Receive $1M+ For DNA Testing US Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) announced the City of Philadelphia will receive $1,000,761 from the Dept. of Justice’s DNA Backlog Reduction Program.

“This grant will allow Philadelphia law enforcement to process DNA samples more quickly, increasing the overall efficiency of the Medical Examiner’s office and preventing future backlogs.” The Senator said. “These improvements will help maintain an ef-

fective justice system and keep Philadelphia residents safe.”

The DNA Backlog Reduction Program assists DNA laboratories in reducing DNA-sample turnaround time. It also provides the resources for labs to address backlogs in the DNA sample database.
