Obama Campaign Opens South Philly Office Today, Organizing for America Pennsylvania staff and volunteers will open a new field office in South Philadelphia at 1825 E. Passyunk. This is one of four offices opening this week in the state. Members of the media and the public are invited to attend to learn more about OFA PA’s work to build the strongest grassroots organization possible by registering voters, talking one-on-one with neighbors about the issues they care about, and encouraging them to support President Obama in November.

Local community leaders will discuss President Obama’s support for the Buffett Rule – an effort to promote tax fairness by ensuring millionaires and billionaires do not pay less in taxes than middle-class families. The President is working to create an economy where everyone gets a fair shot, everyone does their fair share, and everyone plays by the same rules, drawing a contrast with the Republican candidates who believe we should keep giving tax breaks to the wealthiest two percent of Americans instead

of investing in things that will grow our economy.

Casey, Williams, Ramsey Urge Federal Aid For Cops US Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.), Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams and Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey called on Congress to fully fund federal programs that aid local law enforcement this year.

Programs like the Community Oriented Policing Services, the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants Program and the Bulletproof Vest Partnership grant have all helped Philadelphia police officers combat violence, but many of these programs could be on the chopping block this year.

With homicide rates across the city increasing in 2012, Casey, Williams and Ramsey said in a press conference this morning that full funding for these programs is needed now more than ever. Casey also released a letter to US Senate leadership, calling

Smith Sees His Lead Widen In New Poll The Tom Smith for Senate Campaign yesterday released the results of a survey of 600 likely Republican primary voters conducted Apr. 9-11. “These results are further evidence Tom Smith has all the momentum in this race,” said Republican pollster John McLaughlin. “Clearly voters aren’t buying Steve Welch’s negative attacks. Welch’s 2008 vote for Barack Obama for President seems to make him fatally flawed to attack conservative Tom Smith.

With the clock running down to primary day, there is little oppor-

tunity for the opposition to catch Tom Smith. With Tom’s ability to share his conservative message to oppose President Obama and Sen. Casey through paid media and grassroots support, there is no reason to believe his lead won’t continue to grow.”

Numa St. Louis Wins Bass’ Backing Numa St. Louis, candidate for Pennsylvania’s 202nd Legislative Dist., received the endorsement of newly elected 8th Dist. City Councilwoman Cindy Bass. A champion of progressive values and an advocate for new blood in government, Bass adds to St. Louis’ many recent endorsements.

“I know Numa through his work in the community and am proud to endorse him in his run for the State House,” said Bass.

“Numa is the right choice for a new energy, a new voice and a new direction for this diverse district and I look forward to working with him on improving the Olney and Logan communities when he goes to Harrisburg.”

Bass’ endorsement comes on the heels of the endorsements from the Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) and the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Organization of Woman.

DeLissio Retains Big Endorsements State Rep. Pamela A. DeLissio (D-Northwest) won several key endorsements in the past few weeks. She stated, “It is always an honor when an organization bestows their endorsement on a candidate. These endorsements are even more meaningful as they come as a result of my record and performance in Harrisburg; these endorsements are based on the work I’ve accomplished during the past 16 months.”

Planned Parenthood of Pennsylvania readily endorsed Pam. “We are proud of Pam DeLissio’s tireless efforts in protecting women’s health care and her vot-

ing record on these issues. At a time when women’s health is under constant attacks, we need more advocates like Rep. DeLissio in office fighting for women every day,” stated Sari Stevens, executive director of Planned Parenthood of Pennsylvania.

District Council 47 of AFSCME also readily endorsed DeLissio for the second time around. John J. McNesby, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5, echoed similar sentiments, “We are happy to give a second endorsement to State Rep. DeLissio. We need more legislators like Pam; someone who

thoughtfully considers each bill on its merits and keeps the politics out of her decision.”

Marcel Groen, chairman of the Montgomery Co. Democratic Committee, added, “The 194th Dist. has been incredibly lucky with our State House Representatives. We’ve been graced with Kathy Manderino and now Pam DeLissio. We can’t imagine anyone who could have represented our neighbors better. It was an easy decision to endorse her again.”
