Dissenting Groups Ask Corbett To Quit Targeting Them ver a dozen groups mentioned in the anti-terrorism bulletins created by the Institute of Terrorism Research and Response and circulated by the State Office of Homeland Security held a press conference today to call on the Governor-elect, Tom Corbett, to issue an executive order once he takes office that would prohibit the Homeland Security and State Police from gathering information about people’s political or religious views and associations, except as part of a criminal investigation based on reasonable suspicion of actual criminal conduct.

The groups will also be announcing the formation of the 1st Amendment Network, a coalition of groups who were targeted and others who support the celebrate dissent as a core American value.

Participating organizations include the ACLU of Pennsylvania, American Friends Service Committee, Brandywine Peace Community, Council on American-Islamic Relations of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia International Action Center, Protecting Our Waters and The Shalom Center.

His nomination will be submitted for a vote by the full chamber when the House reorganizes in January. He was recently awarded the NFIB Guardian of Small Business award for his outstanding voting record in support of Pennsylvania small-business owners.

Turzai was elected by his Republican peers to be Majority Leader.

Representing parts of Allegheny Co., his new responsibility will be to lead Republicans on the floor of the House during the critical debates that lie ahead. Turzai was also named recently a Guardian of Small Business by NFIB/Pa. Shivers noted Turzai was the architect of the Keystone Manufacturing Initiative, a package of legislative proposals to lower overhead costs and reduce tax burdens on job creators to encourage them to stay and expand — or start up and relocate – to Pennsylvania.
