In his 1992 campaign, Clinton showcased his musical talents on The Arsenio Hall Show on his way to an improbable but successful bid for the presidency. Tonight’s campaign rally at Temple, scheduled for 8 p.m., will likely be the President’s only opportunity before Tuesday’s election to electrify a new generation of young voters in the same manner.

tate Sen. LeAnna M. Washington (D-Northwest) today announced she will push the Senate to take a harder look at strengthening anti-bullying laws in Pennsylvania.

“From elementary school yards to high school hallways and even on the campuses of our colleges and universities — bullying is breeding fear, insecurities and intimidation among our children and young adults,” Washington said. “This cannot be allowed to continue. As legislators, we must do everything in our power to combat this epidemic of bullying.”

Washington said she will urge her Senate and House colleagues to make a bipartisan effort to address bullying in Pennsylvania with stronger laws.

“Bullying leads to low self-worth, low self esteem, eating disorders, stress, and thoughts and actions of suicide,” Washington said. “At a time when our children and youth should be enjoying their studies and making new friendships, they are dealing with the very serious issue of bullying. secure by ending the vicious cycle of bullying.”

After bullying caused a rash of suicides across the country, the Obama Administration recently urged schools to ramp up bullying prevention efforts. New federal guidelines were also issued to educators on how to address the problem of bullying and harassment in schools.

A recent study by the Josephson Institute of Ethics found that half of all high-school students say they have bullied someone in the past year, with nearly as many saying they have been the victims of bullying.

Washington said she will introduce anti-bullying legislation in the upcoming legislative session.

Furious Dems Lash back At Buxco GOP Over Absentee Ballots fficial charges have been filed against the GOPcontrolled Board of Elections after revelations surfaced that they have been systematically targeting and rejecting Democratic absentee ballot requests. The GOP Board rejected over 600 absentee ballot requests – 82% of which were sent in by Democratic voters.

That’s six Democratic rejections for every one Republican rejected.

What Democrats called a “clear pattern of voter suppression by GOP operatives” led the Pennsylvania Democratic Party to file charges and request an extension of time for the processing of absentee ballot applications, in order to ensure that every eligible voter has the chance to participate in this Tuesday’s elections.

publicans are spending their time trying to disenfranchise voters,” said Mark Nicastre, a spokesman with the Pennsylvania Democratic Party.

Patrick Murphy held a press conference yesterday condemning the voter fraud perpetrated by the Bucks County GOP Board and promising that he would fight to ensure that Bucks Co. citizens are able to exercise their constitutional right to vote.

“It’s sickening that the Republicancontrolled Board of Elections would abuse its power to deny hundreds of American citizens their right to vote. They’ve reported to Florida-style Bush tactics to stop people from voting, rejecting six Democratic applications for every one Republican application.

But these guys messed with the wrong paratrooper and I promise you I am not going to let them get away with it,” Murphy said.

The release sent yesterday by the Pennsylvania Democratic Party called the suppression effort a shameless attempt by the GOP to deny people their constitutional right to vote.

“The Republican Party Machine that has controlled Doylestown for decades has once again set out to disenfranchise Bucks County Democratic and Independent voters on Election Day,” it read.

“What makes their current scheme so egregious is that the Republicans are trying to prevent people, many of whom are ill or bedridden and incapable of going to the polls on Election Day, from legally casting absentee ballots. In one instance, a voter who identified his disability as “quadriplegic” was denied an absentee ballot. Many people are unaware of their right to vote by absentee ballot.”

Bill Is Signed To Cut Prison Crowding andmark legislation sponsored by State Sen. Stewart Greenleaf (R-Montgomery) was signed into law yesterday. It incorporates three different measures that aim to manage low-risk offenders in community settings instead of in prison.

SB 1161, now Act 95, directs the Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing to adopt a risk-assessment instrument for use by judges in sentencing criminal offenders. The assessment tool shall be used for predicting the relative risk that an offender will reoffend and be a threat to public safety. Lower-risk offenders should be identified for alternative sentencing programs such as county and state intermediate punishment programs.

To address technical parole violations, SB 1161 provides for a graduated sanctioning system for parole violators. A technical violation is not a criminal offense, but represents infractions like breaking a curfew or failing to report to the assigned parole agent. Alternatives

to re-incarceration for technical parole violations could free up a considerable amount of beds. TPVs are sentenced to an average of 14 months in prison with no real affect on recidivism over those diverted for shorter periods.

The bill authorizes the parole board to grant parole to an inmate whose only requirement for parole is completion of programming. If the inmate can safely complete their programming requirement in the community, they may be released on the condition of completing their programming. This provision does not apply to violent or sex offenders.

State and county correctional institutions have been overwhelmed with a skyrocketing prison population – and soaring busdgets to match.

The Senator said, “We still have work to do, but increasing parole for non-violent offenders, and providing alternatives to prison for technical parole violators are major accomplishments.”
