Toomey Hits Home Stretch Confident About Polling Numbers epublican senatorial nominee Pat Toomey’s internal polling team believes its candidate enters the final week of the race in strong shape, despite a dip in some polls last week.

Amber Marchand, a spokeswoman for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, points to the latest Morning Call/Muhlenberg College tracking poll, which shows Pat Toomey holding a strong lead over Congressman Joe Sestak, 4840%.

in Toomey’s favor from the same survey, which showed Toomey down 3% last week,” Marchand noted.

The Toomey camp attributes Sestak’s earlier gains to a “return to the fold” of Democrats who had been apathetic earlier in the campaign. But Toomey’s internal pollster Jon Lerner insisted in a CQ-Roll Call interview yesterday this movement would not be enough to carry the day for Sestak.

There is no question this is a close race, but there is also no question Toomey is ahead, and is well positioned to win in eight days.” |
