Crime Prevention Award Given for Prosecution of “Flash Mob” Cases he Center City District awarded the Honorable Kevin Dougherty, Administrative Judge for Family Court, Assistant DA Angel Flores, Deputy Probation Officer Bennie Price, Deputy Commissioner Kevin Bethel and Ed Goldberg, Macy’s executive VP, with a Crime Prevention Award yesterday. They were chosen for their swift and decisive action in handling the “flash mob” rioting cases earlier this year.

Those incidents involved a large group of mostly teens running down Market Street, destroying property at Macy’s and engaging in assaulting conduct on Feb. 16, and a second group running through Center City on Mar. 3. Altogether, 29 teens were either found guilty or entered guilty pleas in court over the past two days.

Judge Dougherty sentenced most of the teens to boot camp, or intensive probation.

leading his opponent by 3 points in The Hill 2010 Midterm Election Poll. The poll, conducted by Penn Schoen Berland, notes that Murphy earned 13% of Republican support and is leading his opponent by 12% among women.

Adding to his momentum in the final weeks of the campaign, The Philadelphia Inquirer endorsed Murphy this morning, calling him a “centrist” who is “a good fit for his district.” The Inquirer praised Murphy for his focus on jobs, saying that he “can point to solid efforts he’s made to bring employers to his district.”

Public Access TV Throws A Birthday bash Philadelphia Community Access Media is proud to announce “We’re On! The Victory Party for Philly Public Access TV” will be held tomorrow, Oct. 21, 5:308:30 p.m. at the Painted Bride Arts Center, 230 Vine Street.

After 27-year fight for public access TV in Philadelphia, the City’s first public-access cable channel, PhillyCAM, finally went on the air in October 2009. “This was a landmark moment for all the individuals and nonprofit organizations that fought to make public access a reality. But we never came together to celebrate our efforts; so this is our chance,” says PhillyCAM Executive Director Gretjen Clausing.

To commemorate this historic occasion, PhillyCAM is hosting a party to honor the advocates who made this victory possible and the first year of public-access television in the city. The event will feature a work-in-progress preview of 19 OCTOBER, 2010

the documentary “We’re On: Philly’s Fight for Public Access”, performances by the performance group Asians Misbehavin’ and the Rap Soup, special tributes to community leaders, and a Video Lounge showcasing PhillyCAM programming.

PhillyCAM will also make an announcement about the location of its permanent facility, set to open in Spring 2011.

PhillyCAM is the nonprofit organization designated by the City of Philadelphia to operate its public access television network. Philly-

CAM provides Philadelphia residents and organizations the opportunity to communicate with each other through the creation and distribution of noncommercial media.
