Building on Successes

This year was instrumental to the future and growth of PGA REACH Philadelphia. As the golf industry continues to have triumphs across the country, we seized on the opportunity to help impact the lives of individuals in our communities through our mission and vision.

Every one of you, our supporters, have helped in countless forms this year by helping us provide a community for local military veterans, open doors for people from underrepresented and underserved communities, and spread joy to youth golfers across the Philadelphia PGA Section.

The entire year was successful, but one of the highlights was hosting the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship for the first time at the Union League Golf Club at Torresdale and Union League Liberty Hill, where hundreds of student athletes competed, 100 youth golfers participated at youth day, and over 350 high school students were involved in a “Beyond the Green” event in Center City. The outcome of the event and overwhelming support led to us hiring a third staff member and our first PGA WORKS Fellow. Thanks to the support of our ambassadors, PGA REACH Philadelphia enriched lives through our growing programs, including: serving over 500 U.S. military veterans through PGA HOPE; expanding the Golf in Schools program to 57 schools; boosting PGA Jr. League participation to 1,900 youth golfers; awarding 30 Philadelphia PGA

Junior Tour Diversity Scholarships; and providing over $8,000 of grants to local organizations that assist in achieving our mission.

Our 2022 annual progress report capitalizes on the programs, events, and supporters that have helped to make this year a triumph. It also shows what we are planning on accomplishing in the years to come with our supporters' investment. All of this is not possible without your support and passion for our mission. To our board of directors, PGA Professionals, program participants, sponsors, and trustee members – thank you! As we look towards a bright future in the game of golf, we hope that you see the impact you can make by supporting our mission at PGA REACH Philadelphia in the years to come.

Sincerely,

PGAREACHPhiladelphia.com 3 From the Director's Desk

Making Golf Work

Last spring, the PGA of America visited the Delaware Valley to stage the 2022 PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship (PWCC), considered the most culturally significant championship in collegiate golf. The series of events that were included in PWCC week directly and indirectly benefited our foundation, and local golfers, via a significant donation from the PGA, educational programming, and increased media exposure.

The 54-hole tournament was played on courses donated by the Union League of Philadelphia – Union League Liberty Hill and the Union League Golf Club of Torresdale, and is open to all minority-serving institutions with a focus on Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Our foundation was engaged with PGA staff to host the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship Youth Day Presented by CastleOak Securities, and support a Beyond the Green event, as well as the championship.

In addition to providing golf instruction, PWCC Week allowed local youth to be exposed to and learn more about all of the opportunities available in the golf industry through the free Beyond the Green event at the Comcast Technology Center in Center City. The game of golf is evolving, and is ripe for business building, networking and cultural creativity. The event helped to educate and inspire talent from historically underrepresented backgrounds and encouraged them to pursue careers in the business of golf and beyond.

At the PWCC Youth Day, nearly 100 youth golfers, primarily of diverse backgrounds from local organizations such as the First Tee of Greater Philadelphia, Sigma Pi Phi, the Police Athletic Academy, Edu Sports Academy, and Delta Epsilon, visited Union League Liberty Hill to receive free golf instruction from Philadelphia PGA Members, and were treated to appearances by the Phillies’ Phanatic and Flyers’ Gritty mascots, and by Miles College's Purple Marching Machine brass band.

Youthful Exuberance

PGA Jr. League has been PGA REACH Philadelphia's most engaging program since its inception, and the 2022 season was no exception. The program involved over 1,900 youth golfers as they competed against each other en route to the Section's championship at Hartefeld National, ultimately captured by PGA Member Dave Seeman's Delaware 13u team, and Rolling Green's 17u team, led by John King, PGA. The two teams advanced to Regionals, where they had the chance to qualify for the National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Youth Pillar

Learning on the Course

PGA REACH Philadelphia partnered with the Philadelphia Association of Golf Course Superintendents, Golf Association of Philadelphia, and the First Tee of Greater Philadelphia to help run the First Green program, an innovative environmental education outreach program using golf courses as learning labs. The GCSAA initiative focuses on STEM principles and provides students hands-on learning opportunities in a real-life setting. The students learn not just how to care for a course, but also about career paths available in the golf industry.

Golf in Schools

PGA REACH Philadelphia's successful Golf in Schools program has not slowed down since restarting following the COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns. In 2022, the program grew to 53 schools, ultimately reaching nearly 4,000 students. The PGA Professionaldeveloped curriculum is designed to introduce kids to the game of golf, as well as the mental and physical health benefits the sport provides. Our foundation and the PGA Professional volunteers work with the schools' physical education departments to provide this special education platform on a regular basis.

Youth Pillar 7 PGAREACHPhiladelphia.com

Providing HOPE

PGA HOPE Philadelphia (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) is the foundation's flagship military program. PGA HOPE introduces golf to veterans with disabilities to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. The program introduces the game of golf through a free developmental 5-week curriculum, taught by PGA Professionals trained in adaptive golf and military cultural competency. Over the course of 2022 and 2023, PGA HOPE Philadelphia is expanding to nine chapters in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.

Military Pillar 8 PGAREACHPhiladelphia.com

PGA HOPE Philadelphia reached over 200 new active duty U.S. military veterans in 2022, increasing the program's total reach to over 500 since its inception in 2015. Beginning in 2021, PGA REACH Philadelphia started providing a job board to PGA HOPE veterans, allowing them to work at local golf facilities, and giving them additional course access and program benefits. In addition to weekly learning opportunities, the foundation began offering offseason clinics at Fairways & Dreams Indoor Golf in Conshohocken, Pa., to keep them engaged over the winter months. Our program would not be the success that it is without the help of our 12 squad leader volunteers. Additionally, four veterans (Gerry Ortiz, Scottie Cuff, Roann Leatz, and George Vasiloff) and Jeff Breiner, PGA, had the chance to represent our Section at the 2022 PGA Secretary's Cup during PGA Championship week in Tulsa, Okla.

Diversity Scholarship Program Keeps Growing

PGA REACH Philadelphia recognizes diversity and inclusion’s importance to our society. Our foundation’s goal to help golfers from diverse populations and marginalized communities to improve their lives.

The foundation built upon its existing diversity programs by expanding its Philadelphia PGA Junior Tour Diversity Scholarship recipients to 35, including six new for 2022; working with additional PGA Professionals for its Diversity Scholarship mentor program; and partnering with the Philadelphia Cricket Club's 1854 Foundation to provide our scholarship recipients with new golf equipment and exciting playing opportunities. •

Record-Setting Day at Philadelphia Cricket Club

At the Philadelphia Cricket Club, PGA REACH Philadelphia raised nearly $70,000 from its third annual pro-am championship, a new fundraising record for the event. The tournament featured teams comprised of one PGA Professional and three amateur golfers, with proceeds helping to support the foundation's Youth, Military, and Diversity & Inclusion initiatives. The 2022 pro-am's Pillar-Level Partners were the Union League of Philadelphia, and Scott & Karen Hutchinson. Its Presenting Partners were American Floors Inc., Creative Financial Group, MedEast Post-Op & Surgical Inc., Parx Casino, Sterling Cut Glass, Trinity Flavors, Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board, William E. Howe & Co., Workhorse Brewing Company / Workhorse Tour, and Visit Delco, PA. The pro-am's gift partners included BirdieBox, Corkcicle, Signs by the Sea, AM&E, Precise Yardage Books, and Pairings Cigar Bar. Learning and Growing

The PGA WORKS Fellowship provides the opportunity for a one-year, paid immersion in a PGA Section’s foundation operations. This entry-level employment experience offers a taste of what a career in the golf industry can provide. The program offers access to individuals from historically underrepresented backgrounds—whether by gender, age, race or color, national origin or ancestry, sexual orientation, disability, religion or Veteran status—into the golf industry to gain experience in all facets of the golf industry. PGA REACH Philadelphia hired two women in 2022, Erin Martin and Rachel Goetz, to work 15-month PGA WORKS Fellowships. Martin, a Widener University graduate, has since completed her fellowship and has joined our staff as a full-time foundation coordinator. Goetz, a Penn State University graduate, came to PGA REACH Philadelphia from Aronimink Golf Club, where she was the club's banquet and events manager.

A True Patriot

Longtime PGA HOPE Bensalem Lead PGA Professional John Carpineta, known affectionately as "Johnny C," was recently named the recipient of the PGA of America's national PGA Patriot Award. The honor goes to a PGA Professional who personifies patriotism through the game of golf and demonstrates unwavering commitment and dedication to the men and women who have valiantly served and protected the nation. An inspiration to many, Johnny C earned his PGA Membership at 63 years old. Today, at age 81, he remains a driving force in leading the growth of PGA HOPE Philadelphia. A U.S. Army veteran, Carpineta is an advocate for golf programming to be used as a form of therapy for veterans, and thanks to his efforts, more than 500 veterans have been positively impacted. Carpineta has also been instrumental in mentoring other PGA Professionals who have aspirations to be heavily involved in PGA HOPE programming. We could not be more proud of Johnny C on earning this well-deserved award.

Beyond the Pillars

Throughout the course of a given year, PGA REACH Philadelphia helps run events, fundraisers, or promote causes that fall outside of our traditional core pillars of Youth, Military, and Inclusion, to continue to build our relationship with our communities. In 2022, our foundation worked with the Section's PGA Professionals to gather vital supplies as humanitarian aid for the victims of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. As a result of these efforts, with special help from RiverCrest Golf Club & Preserve and Jamie Komancheck, PGA, we were able to deliver two large vans full of supplies to the United Ukrainian American Relief Committee in Philadelphia. Later in the spring, we again partnered with the Section to host a job fair to promote open positions of all types in all departments at local golf facilities. In June, PGA REACH Philadelphia and Philadelphia PGA Professionals provided free swing tips at the ShopRite LPGA Classic, ultimately won by Brooke Henderson. In addition to providing golf instruction and promoting the game of golf and our initiatives, the PGA Members acted as official scorers for the LPGA Tour on hole Nos. 9 and 18.

Community 15 PGAREACHPhiladelphia.com

A Group Effort

Our foundation would not have realized its successes, and growth in both programming and reach, without the support of our dedicated partners and fundraising efforts from across the Section. Thanks in part to large-dollar trustees and donors, PGA REACH Philadelphia had its best year for fundraising in 2022. In the spring, during PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship week, PGA of America Secretary Don Rea presented the foundation with a $200,000 check. In the autumn, PGA REACH Philadelphia was gifted $10,000 by both trustee-levels donors Scott & Karen Hutchinson at our annual pro-am, and Silvercrest Asset Management Group at the inaugural Silvercrest Cup. The Union League of Philadelphia also stepped up again this year, donating nearly $12,000 through their member-veteran golf tournament. Our organization also continues to thrive from our grassroots donors and campaigns, including PGA Professionals, our Club Association facilities, Golf Marathons, golf tournaments, and more.
