BLACK HISTORY MONTH

St. Michael’s Church Handsworth, Birmingham, invite you to join us to celebrate and commemorate Black History Month, with our series of events Saturday 7th October, 9.30am - Coffee Morning Guest speaker – Rev Dr Carlton Turner, BAME Anglican Tutor, Queens Foundation, Birmingham Free admission. All proceeds from the sale of refreshments will go to charity.

Saturday 7th October, 9.30am - Coffee Morning Guest Speaker: Rev Dr Carlton Turner Presentation: “Remembering Forward into Wholeness: God-talk and Healing Through Black Eyes” Revd Dr Carlton Turner is a Bahamian Anglican Priest who has worked as team vicar in the Diocese of Lichfield for the past 8 years. Formerly an honorary research fellow at The Queens Foundation, Birmingham, he recently took up the post of BAME Anglican Tutor there.

His research interests are in Caribbean Theology and African Caribbean religiocultural traditions, Black Theology, Third World Theology, Missiology and Practical Theology. As a Black pastor and academic, Carlton believes in deep transformation through our critical engagement with the Bible, Christian History and thought, and the realities of everyday life.

Refreshments Refreshments will be on sale. All proceeds will be donated to OSCAR Birmingham – the charitable Organisation for Sickle Cell Anaemia Relief & Thalassaemia Support.

Directions to Latimer Hall for the Coffee Morning Latimer Hall is easily accessed by public transport, either bus number 11 or number 101. It can be reached by walking around the corner into Beeton Road.

There is plenty of space for leaving bikes and plenty of kerb-side parking.

Saturday 14th October, 5.45pm - Church Service Join us in lively yet traditional Anglican worship to celebrate the contribution of Black and Ethnic Minorities to the Church of England. Complimentary hot food will be provided afterwards.

Saturday 21st October, 6pm - African-Caribbean Evening Our finale celebration, an African-Caribbean Evening concludes our Black History Month events. A three-course sit down dinner and entertainment awaits you.
