The Real Story o f Thanksgiving
We all know what happens on Thanksgiving. The turkey gets killed and served as dinner. Well, do you know how that feels? I’ll tell you. It’s before Thanksgiving day and all the turkeys are finding a new way not to get killed. On Thanksgiving five of us turkeys got caught: Fred, Sue, Tina, George and me, Alfred. Well they chop off your held and they think you’re dead, but you’re not. They put you in a pan with veggies and put you in the oven. (It's relaxing. But you know it’s all over so you can’t enjoy it.) When the oven’s done, they put you on a decorative plate, surrounded by lettuce. When everybody comes to the table they serve you with cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes. Then they put you in that stuff. It feels slimy! You go down a big, long, yucky and wet shoot. You hear gulping sounds so you know you’re eaten. I hope I’m not on your plate this Thanksgiving. Jessica Goldman
Turkey Smurkey A long time ago before Chinese takeout which is a long time ago, Indians lived out on the plain One day the Indians were minding their own bee’s wax when ’plunk’ Colonel Sanders appeared in the village and said, ’We need to have a small get together at my place. What do you say? Come on to my house for dinner.’ Then he said, ’Only on one condition you have to bring that turkey^ smurkey thing.* The Indians looked puzzled. "Oh turkey, why?" ’W ell,’ said Colonel Sanders, I m trying a new idea that will bring people here from across the world. It’s going to be called Turkey Smurkey To Go’ get it hot and fresh every day.’ Just picture that pasted on those highway bill boards! ’W hat,’ said the Indians, ’What’s a highway?’ Then the Indians had the dinner and they had another and another until poof! It became a holiday. Well that’s the story. Ever since turkeys have been feasted on just for some stupid holiday. Katie Wylie

Why is the Bluebird Blue?
Once upon a rime there was a beautiful bird who had no color in his feathers. If there was one thing in the world he wanted, it was sky blue feathers. Soon Skippy, the beautiful bird, went to the wise Elk to ask for advice. "What should I do O wise E lk?’ asked Skippy. 'I f you have a dream Skippy no one ean get in your way. Like your Great Grandfather who made the sky blue, the wise Elk whispered. Skippy made up his mind to fly up to the sky and dye his feathers sky blue. On the day that he would go to the sky, many animals were up, up, up, up, up and up some more until they came to the sky! He was running out of air! He just touched when he started to fall! A bear caught Skippy in his soft paws. A few hours later Skippy woke up and saw his feathers sky blue. And that’s why the Bluebird is blue!
b;
How the Bluebird Became Blue One time, at the beginning o f the world, when the birds were all white, there was a very curious little bird named Snowflake. Snowflake was very curious about the water. One day a man was on a boat in the lake and he accidently spilled some sky color ink in the lake. After that Snowflake decided to take a swim in the lake and just as he plunged in he suddenly turned blue. He went home excitedly to show his family. They liked the idea of being sapphire so much that they turned cobalt, too. Then the ink washed away and the water became clear. That’s how the bluebird became blue. Janine Kagle

Once upon a time there was a duck who was the ugliest duck in the group. His name was Howard and nobody liked him because they thought he would never grow up. For a whole year everyone teased him about looking like a baby. Finally he just left the group. Three years later he came back. At first nobody noticed him because he was the best quacker in quackerville. After that everybody who had teased him apologized and everybody asked for his autograph.
A Watched Pot Never Boils Proverbs can teach people about life. This proverb, 'A Watched Pot Never Boils’ taught me a lesson. It means that when watching something like a pot or a clock it seems to never do what a person wants it to do. In music class I watch the clock and it goes slowly. Then I forget about it and try to sing. Then before I know it the class is over. I learned never to watch the clock in music! Lisa Friedrichs
As I enter I can smell rotten cheese and egg. Yuck!!! I can feel spider webs everywhere and rotten wood creaks under my feet. I can see very weak stairs (so I do not dare to go up them!), a scary closet (that might have a skeleton in it!). From outside it is dark black and brown. Dead trees surround the house with lots of bats on them. Can you guess that it is? It’s a HAUNTED HOUSE! Piper Selmon
Haunted House One night I went to a haunted house. It was dark brown. When I went in I heard a squeaking noise. There was a bowl of cookies. I had one, it tasted weird. It tasted like bats. They were very soggy. The house was very quiet. I saw a door and went in. I went down the wet and squeaky stairs. I saw an old lady. She was weeping blood it was coming out o f her nose, mouth and eye. It looked fake. I ran out and never went back again. I was thinking about the old lady and she looked gross so I didn’t think about her and just left it alone and didn’t think about it the rest of my life.
John Blanchette
I’ve been out of the egg five months now, and I have already met a chick who gives me an egg for the daily egg fight. Plus, I’m the turkey of the tribe. I live on a chicken farm owned by Owl Idiot and Granny Pea Brain. Those aren’t their real names (o f course) but that’s what we call ’em. Thanksgiving? Well that’s something I do not like. It is coming up pretty soon and I am not looking forward to it. "Hello, wham, you’re dead." It had already begun! "Oh, hi, goodbye. Bye, bye head. Goodbye." It was almost my turn! Okay, stay calm. "HELP!" Uh-oh. He’d turned on me. I am a goner. I turned and raced out the gate. Out into the woods I ran. Safe! It was Thanksgiving. Three while days after butchering day. As I entered the barnyard I saw dried blood everywhere. Green guts lay scattered around. I slipped on one and fell against the broken handle of a butcher knife. The place was abandoned. Too bad. Paige Austin
One fine sunny day I, Fred Leukemia, was eating my scraps in the Pacific Day Light Farm. I had finished, so I went over to ask my friend Alfred Sun to ask if I could have his scraps. He said, "yes!" Just thennnn. . . Bang!
Bong! Bang! Bong! Rererere." I had died.
I felt my eyes fell out. Mr. Doodle actually cooked me and stuffed me with spices, berries, and dressings. (What a rude pickle.) On the table there was a center piece. Me! There was also cranberry sauce, broccoli, sushi sticks made of pumpkin seeds and squash. Potatoes and apple cider were also on the table. Then the Doodle family started to eat. When they were done they flushed me down the drain. That is the end of my Thanksgiving. Lindsey Hassen
Thanksgiving
I don’t know why you guys kill us in the first place. I mean we’re so cute and innocent and all, it is just so frustrating being a turkey, especially on Thanksgiving day. Well, here I am on the Wilson property, and as a narrator would say T u p , here he is now gettin’ fattened up for Thanksgiving!" Perish the thought! Well, I’m trying not to gain any weight at all if possible. But dang that Farmer Wilson feller is good! He’ll give you all the food he has in the house. Just think, in only four weeks I’ll be on a platter in the Wilson family dining room. Tomorrow morning is Thanksgiving; just a few more hours. I don’t think I’m going to let myself be killed on account of one stupid farmer! I ran up to the wall and I put a few extra bricks on it. Uh Oh! I forgot it’s Sunday morning, the church bells will be ringing soon! And Farmer Wilson’s room is almost next to the church. So I waddled up the road and jumped up to the bell. The clapper of the bell stripped half my feathers off. There were other chicks in the yard - yeah! I was so proud of myself. But there was still some business I had to take care of. I had to hide somewhere that he would never find me - and I had the perfect place! Behind an old, tall oak tree in the front yard. I crouched behind the tree. A few minutes passed and - eeek! Farmer Wilson was coming at me. when he finally got to me he said, "Get out’ the way ya’ crazy turkey! So’s I can chop this tree down." I was saved! And Wilson’s killed another turkey named James instead and I lived the rest of my life long, and was happy for evermore. Owen David
Thanksgiving This is the real Thanksgiving. A few days before Thanksgiving I, Alfred, was waddling around, and the farmer, Mr. Doodle came out and stuffed me. He fed me with all kinds of old scraps. Everybody in the farm was looking at me in a strange way. After a while they told me why they were looking at me like that. They told me that I was going to be killed and eaten. About two minutes later I heard: "bang, bong, bing." then I fell to the ground, I had died. Those crazy people took me into their house and then skinned me. After they peeled me they actually cooked me, and stuck berries, spices and dressings in me. Those rude people then set me on the table with mashed potatoes, broccoli, corn and cranberry sauce. After they finished eating me, there were only bones left. The rude porkers then scraped me off the table, and flushed me down the sink dram. I don’t even know why they did this, but now every November 26, they do the same thing. This is now called Thanksgiving (and this is why we eat turkey on Thanksgiving.) Kristin Beaver
The Turkey Was a Dinner
Once upon a time there were some turkeys who were raised for Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving was only one day away. The turkeys were getting scared. A turkey named Brittney was going to be first to get eaten because she was the fattest turkey. The butcher was getting his axe sharpened and ready. Today was the day for the Thanksgiving dinner at the restaurant. Everybody was coming through the door. The lady and her husband ordered the fattest turkey there and that was Brittney! The butcher got his axe and then got me. He brought me into the kitchen and chopped my head off. I escaped through the kitchen doors and raced around the restaurant, scaring the people half to death. The people were screaming and the ladies were standing on the tables. The butcher was trying to chop me into little pieces for them to eat. I was still running around and scaring the people, mostly the ladies. The women were saying, "Help!" Get that turkey away from m e!" All the people were running out the restaurant doors and screaming, "Help!" After everybody was out, the butcher caught me. I was scared! He took me into the kitchen and put me on the cutting board. I could tell I was really getting frightened. He took one chop and 1 was dead. Nobody wanted to eat me so the butcher did. He took me to his family’s house and they ate me. They thought I was the best Thanksgiving dinner ever. Brittney Allyn
Not All Turkeys Stay in Heaven It started when I was just a baby turkling on a turkey farm. Some strange gave me gallons of food every day until I was as Cat as my best friend, Roly the turkey farm puppy. It happened on November 26 while I was running freely in a field of lush green grasses. Suddenly some real strange turkeys came running after me with long strips of silver. I didn’t know what to do but my instinct told me to jam! First I heard a bam and then I was lighter than I had ever felt before. When I turned around I saw those strange turkeys carrying my plump and juicy body away. So I, in my new state as a spirit, followed them to the butcher shop where they dressed me in some handsome berries and leaves. Then a family came and took me back to their house and I guess it was a holiday because they ate me! That’s my whole turkey life, but if you ever see a real cute puppy dog walking in the or getting a bite to eat at the butcher shop, just say hi because it’s me! Elizabeth Rowen

One odd, but very important day, two pug neck giraffes decided to go bungee neck jumping. Bungee neck jumping was not an unusual game. They played it quite often. First you tie a rope around your neck, tie the rope around a bridge pole or a tall tree limb and Jump!! There were two pug neck giraffes named Dolly and Dumpling. They loved to bungee neck They went every day after school. Their parents forbade them to bungee neck jump for they knew it was very dangerous. But Dolly and Dumpling loved it so much they somersaulted anyway. After hurdling over all bridges in 720 days (two years their necks started growing). Dolly and Dumpling wore long turtlenecks to cover their necks but the turtleneck just stretched them. Once the parents found out they brought the long necked giraffes to Dr. Doolittle. Dr. Doolittle stretched and pulled and rubbed and scratched their necks. But it only made them longer. Dr. Doolittle gave up. And so did the parents.

This long neck disease became hereditary. So that’s how the giraffes got long necks.
One day the White Carrier Pigeon was flying up high, oh best beloved, when a boy named Max came. Now Max, oh best beloved, always loved to get people mad. He was what you would call a joker. The White Carrier Pigeon knew about Max and Max knew about the White Carrier Pigeon. So a family feud had been going on ever since the time when Max and his friends threw a stone at the poor pigeon just for fun! So when the bird saw Max down below he spit on him. One day Max got his rifle and screamed, "Bird, I’m going to shoot you and eat you for dinner!" And he shot but missed and put holes in the sky. And the blue dripped out onto the bird and that is why today the blue bird is blue. And why Carrier Pigeons are extinct. Annie Johnson
The Octopus
My animal is an octopus. It is a non vertebrate animal. The average size o f an octopus is the size o f a man’s fist and the legs are the size of a man’s arm. The smallest octopus reported was two inches stretched out full length. The largest octopus reported was thirty-two feet. The octopus has eight legs and is red, orange, silver, purple, and sometimes grey-black. The octopus eats lobster, crabs, and other kinds of shellfish. They live under rocks and caves. When enemies attack, the octopus spits a big cloud of ink and the enemies get lost and lose their sense o f smell. The octopus moves in a strange way. It sucks in water and spits it out through holes and the water makes it fly through the water. I like the octopus because of their colors and sizes. The amazing thing about the octopus’ color is the way it changes. When it gets mad it turns red and white. The reason its size is amazing is because no matter how big or small the octopus is, it can squeeze a full-grown lobster through a hole two inches wide. Blake Bechtel
The Ochre Star is an animal that eats plankton. By doing this it cleans the water. Another way o f saying starfish is echinoderm. The echinoderm’s environment is in tide pools. The starfish must always be in water or else it will dry out and die. The starfish protects itself from its enemies by its skin. It has sharp points all over its body. The starfish has five legs. The echinoderm moves by wriggling thousands of small hairs. The color of the starfish is yellow and brown. The echinoderm has no back bone. The starfish also eats clams and other shelled animals. It eats by laying on its prey and sucks its shell open then it puts its stomach inside the shell and slowly digests. The starfish can have up to fifty legs. If a starfish loses a leg another will grow back. I think the best thing about the starfish is it cleans the sea water. Kendall Burian
The True Turkey Story
One fine sunny day Marvin, the turkey (that’s me) was thinking that he wasn’t special. Why? Because every season a turkey always left for vacation in November. Season after season I was still not picked. I didn’t know that the farmer was going to boil, slice and murder me. The cow, named Jason the jolly cow, told me that. I got scared and hid in the hay. That night I decided to escape. It was dark, cold, and scary but I thought I could either be mince meat or I could be a turkey. I screwed myself threw the gate. I want out, and I ran as fast as my little feet could carry me. Then I fell CAPOOM! The farmer ran out of the house with a gun BANG! BANG! and again, he missed. I found a hole in the ground. It started to pour so 1 went in the hole. It was warm and smelled like dinner. I turned the comer and didn’t believe my eyes: all my turkey family was here I said, *We need a plan. ’ The next morning all of us marched to the farm. We headed towards the farmer and grabbed him. We carried him to the hole. Then we boiled, sliced and murdered him. For Thanksgiving of course, we ate him, and we lived happily ever after. Steven Cottle
All Turkeys Go to Heaven One day I was happily eating com from the ground, when I bumped into my mailbox. (I’m a klutz). I reached inside and found a letter; it said, "Dear Frank U. Turky Thunkz Given is next week. Beware or you’ll be the main course. Sincerely Frank J." I was too late. A man came over to me as I ran as fast as I could. He grabbed me and I was tied up and thrown into a "Safeway" van. I had seen this van before and many of my family had been in it. They never came home. I got to a shop and my head was cut off. I could see my body being plucked. I was wrapped up in plastic and put in the store "Safeway." After someone bought me, I went to a house. The next day when I was cut open, I could see Frank T. (Frank J. was the kid that wrote the letter to warn m e.) So now I’m here up in Heaven with wings that actually work, telling my story.

We ran along the river for quite some time, listening to its soft rushing voice and eating the succulent berries that grew on the banks.W hen the sky becam e dark er we pitched cam p. I lit a fire and watched it burn down to coals. As I w atched the glowing coals I thought of a m other I had never known, of Stone Hands, of Rita, and m ost of all of Karana. I saw her face in the coals and I reached out to touch her but she vanished. I almost wept because I was alone, but Rontu Aru gave m e a reassuring bark to let me know he was there. I lay down beside him and soon fell asleep. I awoke to the sound of birds and the trickling of the river. Reluctantly, I sat up. The knowledge that if I was to make it to Pala before sunset I should set off early aroused me quickly. The sky was blue and the air was warm. 1 packed up what few belongings I had and Rontu-Aru. I set off up the river. The farth er we went the m ore I recognized the landscape. Once , I thought I saw a bead in the stream . Rontu-Aru and I entered into a clearing. There were ashes everyw here. Then I realized what had happened. The village of Pala and all that lived th ere had been burned by the Spanish soldiers. I fell to m y knees and wept. The m oth er I had never known was dead. My very heritage had ceased to exist. My first thought was to retu rn to the mission. I would surely be punished for leaving without perm ission. Then I thought of the tales I had heard as a child. They told of a paradise that Coyote had created for the Negura tribe : "Follow the moon to a great tree. Behind the tree is the valley of the Negura. Here you will find peace" I decided to do so and then a silvery gleam in the ashes caught m y eye. I bent down to investigate and I found it was a knife. Next to it was a sheath. I put the knife in its sheath and tucked it in m y belt should 1 ever need to use it ( I hoped th at I wouldn't). The moon cam e out and I followed it. Soon I cam e to a great tree and fell asleep. With m orning cam e a terrible fight. I had just woken when a bear cam e out of the trees with a puppy in it's m outh. I pulled out the knife and wounded the bears paw. It scream ed an almost hum an scream , dropped the puppy and limped back into the forest. I picked up the puppy and felt its pulse. The dog was alive but just barely. Rontu-Aru and I m ade ou r way into the valley with the puppy in my arm s. I bathed the puppy in a stream and cleaned its wounds, then built a small shelter for all of us. After a few weeks the puppy healed up. I have lived in the Negura valley for many years and though 1 m ay be old I still rem em ber the day when Mando and I went to the beach to collect clams.

SA BR E MAN I’m Excalibur, a sabre. I have been used a lot in duels. One time in battle there was all this commotion going on. I was stuck into someone’s body and felt a hot liquid. I was pulled out by my owner and the person I stuck fell to the ground. I wanted my owner to stop, but what could I say? Suddenly he dropped me and fell to the ground. I was picked up and the next thing I knew I was in a home. In this home some burning liquid was put on my back and it hurt. Then I was placed in an uncomfortable case and a piece of glass was put over me. It was hard for me to go to sleep, but I finally slept. In the morning I was yanked out of my case and was taken to a castle, and given to a king named Arthur, used me in an important duel. I won but I got a beating. I was at the castle and was in a big, comfortable case. And I have been relaxing there ever since.
M Y LIFE-STORY OF A GUITAR There I was in the store window, I was a shiny, white, electrical guitar with golden strings. My price tag read $ 2 ,0 0 0 .1 sat there for two months because no one could afford me.Then one day three men came in. They seemed special and the one with the short blond hair kept looking at me. He asked the shop keeper how much my price was. The shop keeper replied “ $2,000” and then, with a hint of curiosity said , “ Aren’t you guys Nirvana?” They said,” Well, yes.” The shopkeeper told them they could take me for free. The lead singer started playing me and yanking my strings. Oh! It hurt to be played! They threw me into their car and took me to their house where they leaned me up in a comer. I decided to take a nap. When I woke I heard the lead singer ask where he should break me.
/
What did he mean by “Break me?” I glanced across the room and saw an old, broken guitar. He informed me that at the end of a concert they would break me and throw me in the crowd. I was shocked! How could they be so cruel? Suddenly, the lead singer grabbed me by the neck and threw me into the
Lear.. I was driven to the stadium and was carried on stage.Millions of people were reaming. The lead singer began to play me . Ouch! I endured this for hours but now it as the final song! He broke me over a stereo and threw me in the crowd.! hit the ground with a thud. My arms were on the ground, my head was on the stage, and my neck was being carried by a man.I was bleeding to death. Later I was thrown in the trash.I still lay there today. Colin Murfit
THE HAT OF.BILL CLINTON I confidently threw the two glass doors of Jam ie’s open. Jam ie’s was the nicest store known to California and I loved to shop there. My eyes soon fell upon a beautiful white hat with silky, pink flowers blowing perpetually by the nearby fan. I ran over to it and tried it on. I loved it and secretly wanted it for my wife Hilary. I, Bill Clinton, however, secretly desired that hat for myself, but since I was President, I would have to think twice about wearing a woman’s hat. A tear of unhappiness trickled down my cheek. Oh, how nice it would look with my pink dress! “Dad,” my homely daughter called, running to my side and tearing the hat from my head. “Why in the world are you wearing a lady’s hat?” I grabbed the hat back. “Huh?” she cried. “I, uh, umm, uh, I-I-I was going to give it to your mother. Ya, ya that’s it, for her
birthday.” Chelsea’s eyes darkened and her dark brows lowered. “Mother’s birthday was three months ago! You know what I think? I think you’re lying!” I took a gulp. Caught again! “Okay, kid, the truth is... The hat, the hat’ s for me!” I started to cry. Chelsea grabbed my jacket. “Don’t you even think about buying that, Daddy. I’m taking you home.” I pried her pale hands from my clothes. I guess I pushed her too hard because Chelsea fell backwards with a shrill scream. I raced to the counter where Jamie stood. When I arrived there I was panting. I knew I had to buy it before Chelsea wa conscious. “I’ d like to buy this hat,” I said, taking it off my gray hair. “Oh, I’m sorry, sir. It’s already been bought. I guess it shouldn’t be out for display.” “Give me that hat, now!” I yelled. “No,” she told me. I pulled out my nine millimeter and shot her twice. I grabbed the hat and ran out of the store and broke into a cold sweat. Suddenly I began to feel so dizzy that I couldn’t hold myself up. My head hit the cement and I blacked out. The next thing I knew I was in an asylum. At least I had my hat and maybe Hilary can bring over my dress. Well, at least, here I can inhale. Katie Searby

ME A MARTYR I smiled out of the window. My father, John Hancock, was such a rebel. It made me feel proud to be the daughter of such a brave man. My father was constantly wanted by British officers everywhere. I took out a small piece of paper on which I had drawn a cartoon of King George. It always made me laugh. I put on my night clothes and climbed into bed. I blew out my candle and was soon asleep. “Elaine, wake up this instant,” my mother’s shrill voice blared. ‘Tom m y, John hurry up! There is no time to lose.” “What is going on, Mom?” My brothers’ sleepy faces showed from their rooms. “Your father has done something crazy again.” Her gaze left Tommy and John’s and fell on me. “Elaine, why did you have to help him?” I gave her a puzzled look. “What?” “You helped him dump tea in the harbor! ” She was yelling now. “I know a lot of people are angry about the British taxes, but tea?” She was turning purple now. ‘T ea is the most proper thing to drink, and to think you, Anna and Annie, dumped tea off a ship. Tea for us!” my mother said. “And now the British are after you!” “And not to mention the taxes!” A new voice joined our conversation. It was my father. I breathed a sigh of relief. “Anna and Annie, and of course you Elaine,” his gaze lingered fondly on me, “are the only girls smart enough and brave enough to throw tea off the Dartmouth.” “Well, John, I sure hope you don’t do anything crazy again!” “I can’t promise Elizabeth, I can’t.” Suddenly a pounding on the door startled us all. “Open up, or we will break down the door!” My brother Tommy began to cry. John Jr., my ten year old brother, pushed up his glasses, and his big brown eyes were filled with panic. “Let’s go,” my father yelled sharply. We all grabbed small satchels that we had been saving for a moment like this. My mother stood still. “John, I am going back to England. I can’t stand running away every time my y people come. You go; I’ ll stay.” I heard a crash; the British had knocked down the d^b W e ran outside. Anna and Anne, my cousins, and their mother were there. Anna’s e seemed to glow with joy. Anne didn’t look so sure. Anna had shoulder length blondish hair and brown eyes. Anne had glasses, hair, and brown eyes also. Anna and I were both sixteen. “Where is Elizabeth?” my aunt asked. “She is going back to England, Auntie,” I croaked, tears filling my eyes.
I was now in our coach with my father, my aunt, my uncle, John Jr., Tommy, Anna, and Ann. I was sleepy; after all, it was about 2:00 a.m. I soon fell asleep. “Elaine!” My father shook me. “Wake up!” I stared at him, a confused and puzzled expression on my face. “W h a t.. . ? ” “You must sneak aboard the “Susan Constant” tomorrow. I couldn’t sleep that night. I tossed and turned and finally fell asleep moments before Anna woke me up. My eyelids felt heavy and my body like a noodle. I sat up and got changed. I stepped out of the coach and knocked on the other coach where my father, aunt, and uncle slept. Since they were still asleep, I went without breakfast. I unhitched Mowene, my favorite horse, and jumped on her back, and began to ride to the harbor. I left my horse with Chris Hancock, my other cousin. Then I began toward the “Susan Constant.” About an hour later, I was down in the cargo hold. I wondered where in the world they would hide some valuable letters. Then I heard footsteps. I ducked behind a barrel and took out a fish. A soldier walked over to the barrel and took out a fish and began eating it. Another man had just entered. ‘Tim othy Cook, I’m so darned hungry, I just had to eat it.” “Christopher Charles Cook, Jr., who do you think you are? As captain of this ship I must punish you.” Ah ha, if the captain is down here then I can go into his cabin, I think. I left them arguing and entered the captain’ s cabin. I began to search for the chest. I then heard a noise- a Redcoat held a musket to my head. “You are a very foolish young b-girl!” he stuttered. “You darned Rebel. I will kill you!” He grabbed me and stuffed me in a trunk. It was full of paper, the important papers! Suddenly, I felt a strange sensation of falling; I was being thrown into the sea. I hit the water. Maybe I did not bring the papers back to my father, but at least I prevented the British from getting them. My family buried me on Bunker Hill. I had saved the papers and died in the process. I was a martyr! Jenny Paulus
THE BEST HAT I walked in the Gap with my older sister. She wanted to get a jacket to wear to school.
She ordered m e , “Look around, but don’t leave.” “Where am I going to go?” I asked. She walked off, leaving me in the middle of
the store. I skipped to the elevator and pushed the down arrow. The elevator opened and I walked in with a girl about my age and her mom. When it came to a stop, I heard the mom say, “Judy, look at that blue cap with the world on it!” I looked to where the mom was pointing and there it was, the most beautiful cap. Judy and her mom ran to the cap and grabbed the last one. I cringed and then went over to the cashier who was a lady with red hair and green eyes. “Do you have any more of those hats?” I questioned her. “Yes, I have some in the back storage room. I’ll be right back,” she said. About five minutes later, she returned with a black and blue eye. “What happened?” I exclaimed. “The box with the hats in it fell on my eye. When that happened,” she continued, “all the other boxes fell on my eye.” “Oh, are you okay?” I asked. “Yes,” she replied. “Can I go get my hat in the back room?” I questioned. “Sure,” she answered. I ran to the back room and took a hat off the shqj walked back to the cashier and gave him the money. The hat was mine! Noelle Olsen

BLACK Black is the cool, dark night. It is the stinging sensation of a mosquito’s bite. Black is an emergency dire, Or coal pitched from a burning fire. Black is a cave up above, A truly dark dove. Black is the darkest part of the sea, Or the hair coloring of me. Black is the wild wind, Even a little cat thin. Black is rain as it hits the roof, A bum’s dark, dirty tooth. Black is the ink of a press, Or the color of my mother’s nicest dress. Black is a rock hard, Or the suit of a card. Black is the days gone by, Or a mark high on my thigh. I was sitting in the storage room of “Footlocker.” It was torture. The owners took rags and water and they tried to drown me. They next took the rag and scratched it on my skin. It stung and was frightening for me. They threw me in a box and stuck paper between my brother and me. We were left there. Several days later, I felt the box moving and then it was dropped on the ground. On the outside I appeared still, but on the inside I was screaming bloody murder. The lid of the box was pulled off and a man shoved and pulled my brother and me out. I thought I was dreaming, but I wasn’t. A man pushed his foot down my throat, pulled my nose out, and tied my ears around my face. I was in pain. Luckily, I was taken off and dropped in a bag. Next thing I knew, I was in a house in a city, and when my brother and I arrived our owner slipped us on. The second time I was laced up it felt sort of good. He walked to a big box. (When he walked I was bouncing off the floor. It was fun.) Then he pushed a button on the black box. I saw people on the box moving around. Then I saw the cutest girl in the world. Her name was Keds. When she disappeared from the box, I was sad. The next day my owner took me for a walk. I felt something sting, but I couldn’t tell what it was. I heard a hissing sound. It was my air bubble; I was gasping for air. I was still losing air when I was thrown in the trash can.

THE LIFE OF A BASEBALL CARD Babe Ruth and I were having a friendly conversation when we were rudely interrupted by a boy who asked, “How much do these cards cost?” The man said, “4 00 dollars for that one and 500 dollars for Babe Ruth.” The boy then took me and gave the man some money. I was really sad because I had to leave my home and my friends. I worried, “What if the other cards don’t like me? ’ I wanted to go back home. As he put me in the car I noticed the other was an older boy. He asked to trade. The younger boy accepted. I then was given to the older boy who treated me like a king as he held me in his hands. He was much nicer than the boy. However, he crammed me into a clear plastic pocket like thing. I could still see but it was hard to breathe. Then he moved into a huge room and put me in a box. I have been in this box for about five years now and I don’t think I will ever come out. Roy Whitfield
THE DAY I WAS A BA SEBALL I was in a Sporting Goods store. Then a stranger picked up and examined me. Before I knew it, I was in a big van with lots of kids. One kid picked me up and squeezed me. “Ouch!” I stayed in a car for thirty-minutes. Soon we arrived at a baseball field . I was crammed in a pouch . Everything was dark so I went night-nighL I awoke to a big pain . The next thing I knew I was in the air. Then, I landed in a boy’s soft glove. He picked me up and threw me. OOOOOOOO! It hurt I was getting soooo sick! They were throwing me four times. Then someone else approached the plate. I had been used for about an hour. Then the pitcher threw me and then “Smack!” “Foul ball” yelled the Ump. Nobody found me so I slept. I awoke on the ground at about 5:00 in the morning. I seemed to be left alone. Then a big ugly drooling dog came up to me. “Ugh-oh! NO poochie, no aaaaaaagggghhhh!” Eric Barry
BOSTON MASSACRE March 4, 1770 Dear Journal, The soldiers have been patrolling the city for two years now. My friends and I are really annoyed that the soldiers are still here! If they don’t go soon, we are really going to do something. March 5, 1770 Dear Journal, Early this morning a colonist and soldier were in a fist fight. My friends and I witnessed this. W e jumped into the fight to help the colonists. The fight turned out to be a tiny riot. Crowds were angry at the soldiers because of the fight
Later that evening,
tons of people including my friend and I crowded around the British sentries. Late that night around 9 :0 0 p.m. a sentry called for help. The soldiers were backing away from the growing crowds. (The colonists started throwing snowballs, stones, and lots of insults.) Then all of a sudden I heard a horrifying sound of thunder and saw red snow on the ground. I looked down even though I didn’t want to and saw my best friend lying dead on the snow.
I didn’t want to believe it was true. I closed my eyes and I looked down
again and it was really true. I felt like I had just been stabbed in the back. It was the worst feeling I had ever had. I felt really angry at the soldiers. I heard another gun shot then..... Darren Lachtman
It was my brother’s birthday in four days. What would I get him? My brother was a full-time cowboy, a four year old cowboy. The only problem was that he didn’t have a cowboy hat! Of course, I could give him my beautiful red cowboy hat. I remembered when I used to sleep with it because it was so soft, and why give it all up for a minor! Because it was his birthday, I did. I gave it to him, and I will regret it for the rest of my life. That weekend he held up the family with a pocket knife and his capgun. It had something to do with the hat; it had to be. It gave him some kind of mental power. I must stop him!!! Later that week, I was going to snatch it back. It had to be done, but I couldn’ t hurt his feelings. So I did. It wasn’t easy and he didn’t like it, but somehow we made him understand. He still wanted a hat so we bought him a white one, and so far he hasn’ t held us up at cap point. Brian Bechtel
MY SCHEME It was March 31st, and I thought of a trick to play on my friend, Gillian. When I woke up on April 31st, all of a sudden a magnificent plan popped into my mind. I was going to put glue all around Gillian’s deck and then put worms in her books. My mom dropped me off at school early. The classroom was open so I walked in. I found a bottle of glue and I dripped it all over her desk, and all over her chair. Then I dropped ten squiggly worms into her books. The bell rang. I watched Gill sit down in her seat. The teacher asked her to come up to her desk. Gill tried to stand up, but she was stuck! The whole class started to laugh. Gill looked so embarrassed. Later when she tried to take her spelling book out, her hand was stuck to her book. The worms came out of her book and she screamed! Soon she looked like she was going to faint. When it was time to go home, Gill looked at me and I started to laugh. “Next year,” she said, “you’ll be sorry!” I was glad that my scheme had worked! Julie M. Cottle

JOSE CANSECO’S BAT On a hot day in May, I was resting in the Ranger’ s dugout when it was Jose Canseco’s turn to bat. It was the 5th inning and the Giants were beating the Rangers 2-0. Jose picked me up and was very nervous. He almost choked me, and I was afraid he might throw me when he hit the ball. He stepped to the plate and there were bases loaded. The catcher gave the sign and the pitcher nodded his head. He wound up and pitched. Luckily, I missed the ball and dust flew off the catcher’s glove when it hit. “Strike one!" the umpire said. Jose was starting to get angry at himself for not swinging, and his grip choked my neck tighter. I can see why they call it “choking up” because it really strangled me. The catcher gave the sign again and the pitcher nodded. The pitcher wound up and pitched. Jose swung me. “Strike two” the umpire exclaimed. Again I missed the ball. Jose was really getting enraged now. I was scared to death that he was going to break me if he struck out. The catcher gave the sign and the pitcher shook his head. The catcher gave another sign and the pitcher nodded. The pitcher pitched. Jose didn’t swing me that time. “Ball one!”
the umpire said. The catcher wasn’t happy about that pitch but he gave
another sign. The pitcher nodded, and he pitched. Jose fouled it back and it hit the backstop. That ball hit me right in the nose and I was starting to get angry at the ball for trying to hit me. The catcher gave the sign, and the pitcher nodded. He wound up and pitched. Jose swung me so hard the ball scraped my skin. When I made contact it hurt, but it was worth it. The crowd screamed so loudly when they realized I hit an out-of-thepark homerun. I was flung to the ground when Jose started running. I felt forgotten until the bat boy picked me up. I was the hero, but everyone gave Jose the credit.

DESK TOPS I’m a desk that has been passed from school to school. No one cared for me. The only attention I have received is to have people spray liquid all over my face, and it stung a lot. One morning I woke up with books and papers all over me. I looked up and saw a test score that was 36% . I pushed away enough papers to see a student. He was weird looking, sort of punk like. He opened my mouth and took out a knife. I screamed with pain as he carved “J.S. was here” into my cheek. The teacher saw him, grabbed him by the ear( and sent him outside. It still hurt and was growing more painful, but at least I was safe. Pat Sharp
A MAGIC NIGHT This was the moment I had been waiting for; the night when I flew down to Los Angeles to have dinner with Magic Johnson. I had to try about six different outfits until I found the right one. I put on blue jeans, a Lakers shirt and cap, then I was off. Once I arrived in Los Angeles, I saw a super stretch limo waiting for me. When I saw his house,it looked so big it looked like a school. It also had a gym with a basketball court. W e were going to a seafood restaurant. I ordered fried shrimp. Ervin ordered octopus, which did not look good from my view. For dessert I had a piece of mud pie. He had a cherry pie which looked really good. I asked him a few questions. One of them was, “Did you miss basketball when you were gone?” He said that he missed it a lot and that is why he returned. After dinner,we went to his house and played basketball one on one. He gave me an advantage by playing with one eye closed, so he only beat me 55 to 20. After our game,he took me to a Lakers game. He played and they won 108 to 100. After that, the limo took me to the airport and I left. Once I arrived at San Francisco, I took a cab and raced home, tryng to get home before my curfew, but I was too late. My parents grounded me for one week. My parents punished me just because I was five minutes late. I knew the night couldn’t be perfect. The next day, I went to school and no one believed me. They only believed one thing and that was being late for my curfew. Doug Carter

hatchet, rope, and bullets for our family guns. We continued on. In the June sun everyone was hot and in a barren area . Think how it would be, that’s how hot it was. The oxen were just stopping every five minutes so we got out and had to push them for about a hour. It was tiresome. At about 5:00 at night we had gotten

to the greenest area yet, so we stopped, ate bread and cheese, and drank water. The oxen grazed in the grass while I ate my bread. I looked along the horizon and saw the tall mountains and river ahead. One river was about a day ahead, but I had no idea, ho it would take to reach the mountains - months, years ?
S
I woke up finding Sally shaking me. “ They stole two oxen! They stole two oxen!” I sat up drearily while pushing Goldie aside and asked, “ Who stole two oxen ? “ I don’t know, but we are missing two.” she answered more calmly. I stood up and was more awake and started to count the oxen. There are only six. She was right. I saw some Indians in trees over to my right with are two oxen, but they had a bow and arrow in their hands so I decided not to disturb them. I looked around and suddenly spotted wild fruit. I stared run toward it. “ What’ca doin’ , Sam?” Jake asked trying to catch up. “ I found some wild fruit,” I shouted loud enough to let everyone hear. They all ran after me and we reached the berry bush. It was edible alright. They were strawberries. Sally and Mama rushed to get the baskets and Dad, Paul, Jake, and I started to eat them. Sally and Mama were back in no time. We stated to pick as much as we could. In about fifteen minutes the bush was just a bush and all the strawberries were either in our stomach or baskets. I picked one basket up and realized it was heavy, and that my hands were all red! I went to the wagon, put the basket in, and sat down. Another day was ahead. Soon we reached the Kansas River. Many wagons were there. We took as much

grass run underneath my feet. Here and there were flowers which I liked to look at. I heard my dad shout, “Look up ahead. There is an abandoned wagon. Let’s stop and see what is inside.”
|
Soon we came to a stop and saw a wagon lying on the grass. I jumped out of our wagon and ran to the other wagon with the other kids following me. I looked inside and saw two sets of clothing, about fifty bullets, and three wagon tongues. Then a snake came out of the wagon and bit Paul. “OW W W !” I took him to our wagon and washed his arm with water and then wrapped it in a bandage. He said he felt better afterwards, but I’m not so sure. The next day we were going slowly on the trail when an Indian came out of the trees and said in very bad English, “Me want o x .. .Me want o x .. .Me want o x !” Every time he said, “Me want ox,” it was louder. My dad said, “No!” really clearly and then the Indian shouted something in his language and all these Indians came out with bows and arrows. W e then gave them one quickly and left W e reached Fort Laramie and an old man came up to me and said, “Mountains are a-coming. Be careful!” W e left that day having a quick nap before leaving. About an hour later, Sally found some wild fruit and we started to pick them like we did before and we had a big pail of them in the back. That week we came to a fork in the trail. One led to Green River (the short-cut) so we took that one. W e reached Green River in a week and decided to cross it In the middle, our wagon capsized and everything fell out, including Jake who was drowning in the current. Just in the nick of time, I grabbed him and he was saved! In the end, we had gathered all our supplies and hadn’t lost anything, but had almost lost Ja k e .. . While we were sitting in the wagon, Mama came through the front of the wagon into the back to sit with us. “I have something to say,” she said. “What?” we all asked. “I am going to have a baby soon,” she replied, rubbing her stomach and smiling. I just wanted to tell yo u. .

^
The next three weeks we were in what I call mountains, but my dad said there were much bigger ones later on. W e reached South Pass the next day and I was overjoyed to see fields and hills. W e went through South Pass much easier than we expected. W e reached Snake River and the people around us said that we didn’t have to cross it and should just follow it until Fort Boise. W e did, and reached there in about two weeks. Between Fort Boise and Fort Walla Walla, nothing really happened, but Mama’s tummy was getting really big and we were expecting the baby any week. At Fort Walla Walla, we had the fort doctor look at her. He said that we should stay there until she had the baby. That night we all thought up names. I made a list: List of Babv Names 1. Amanda 2. Bobby 3. Kate t o
4. Timmy 5. Emily __ _ The next Sunday, the third of November” a little baby girl was bom. W e decided to name her Ann (My mama didn’t like the names on the list). We all celebrated and stayed there for another week. W e left the next Monday, changing our plans, and went along side the Columbia River all the way to Portland. Now I look outside our house and remember the joy we had when we reached here and the hardships we had along the trail. Gillian Bostock
THE BOSTON TEA PARTY My hands were shivering. It was December 16, 1773. The Boston air was freezmg. I was ducking so nobody would see me in my Indian costume walking down the wooden plank, ready to crawl onto the ship. I was now practically crawling on my hands and knees. Everyone around me was shivering and whispering dreadful words such as, “W e are doing this at high risk.” My friend quickly tapped me on the shoulder and said, “I hope we don t get caught and hanged.” My throat was dry and I could only say, “I know .”
W e carefully boarded the ship, the Dartmouth. It felt awful. I knew that I was doing what I wanted , but I hate to say, it felt horrible. We were now dangerously inching down to the bottom of the deck to hoist up the tea. My spine prickled like a knife going down it. I looked over to see if my partner John was all right. He was already up the ladder and throwing the tea into the deep blue sea. I was ready to run off the ship, I was so horrified. I couldn’t watch myself throw it in. I was thankful when it was over. I finally had thrown my twentieth crate in, and then they all were gone. I dashed quickly off the boat with my body shaking like a snake with his tail cut off. I ran back to my cottage. Thankfully I was staying alone, or my parents would have heard me come in. I changed my cloths, wiped my Indian paint off, and fell into bed. I was the most tired person of all. I put my head back and closed my eyes. I was still shaking. I tried to read but the book kept falling. I put my head back again and dreamt of all the things I had done that dreadful evening. I am still fearful of being hanged by the British.

WHAT A LIFE! Dear Diary, It was March 5, 1770. I woke to feel the warm sun on my face. I climbed out of bed reluctantly knowing I had to wake Anne, so we could get started on our chores. Alter I woke Anne I slipped into an old dress. [ We had to run the tavern today because our parents were going to our cousin’s house to help them move]. I went downstairs and ma breakfast, while Anne dressed. We both ate quickly. Shortly after 10 o clock I heard some townspeople shouting at the off-duty British soldiers. I ran inside, told Anne, and then quickly ran outside and hid in some bushes. The crowd began to shout. “You cowards! Let’s see you fire! You dare not fire!... Lobsters!... Bloody backs!” Their captain shouted “Fire,” and then the solidiers turned to the crowd and shots ran out. Three people fell down dead and two were wounded. I was horrified. I ran into the tavern, grabbed my sister, and dashed behind the counter. We immediately opened door that lead down to the cellar. It was dark but I did not want to be near the soldiers

lit a candle so we could see. Hours later we felt it was safe to come out.

M Y LIFE AS A COKE BOTTLE Feeling confused, I was flung into a cold place with the other bottles. I didn't know where I was. Someone opened the door and jerked me up by my neck. It hurt! Then I slid over a metal plate and I heard a beep. I was dropped into something dark and carried out, then a little bit later pulled out. With a hard, cold, gadget, the person popped my hair off. Then he slobbered all over my head and tipped me up and started to gulp down all of my insides. Afterwards I was washed out and thrown into a bin. Then I was thrown into an even bigger bin, with some of the bottles I met in the dark place. They were empty, too. Suddenly we jerked forward, rattling and banging against one another. After a while we came to a stop and were thrown into a machine that ground us up. It hurt so much; little sharp wheels cutting into my feet and working up through my stomach, to my head. It was the worst thing that had ever happened to me. Then we were thrown into a big furnace. It burned and I could feel myself melting into a mold. Then it started all over again; I was reincarnated into a root beer bottle! Jamie Hiatt
MY IDEAL FRIEND If I could have a friend the way I would want her to be , I would like a friend who lives around the same area because we could play with each other and do things together. I would like her to have her own mind because I like friends who have their own opinion about things. I would like her to like a variety of sports so she could teach me special skills and so I could play a game in a different way. I would like my friend to be trustworthy, and there whenever I needed h e r . I would like her to be intelligent so we could help each other on things like homework. This is what I would like my friend to be like.
NOTE: I would also be a friend the same way I explained above. Makeda D. Bostic
THE GLASSES OF JACK NICHOLSON I am a pair of dark sunglasses. I belong to Jack Nicholson, a fantastic actor. One day he picked me up and put me on. It was a tight fit sitting on his nose and my ears felt sweaty on his ears. He walked outside. All of a sudden I heard everybody screaming. It killed my ears. I saw Jack looking at a gorgeous woman with blond hair and blue eyes. He smiled at her. Soon I went into the longest car I ever saw. It was neat. When we were in the car, the TV went on. He took me off and started chewing on my ears while watching the program. It hurt so badly. I was afraid my whole body would break. He bit harder and harder! I screamed at the top of my lungs! “Eeeeeeek! Eeeeeeek!” Suddenly my spine cracked and he threw me in the trash can. I sat there wondering what was going to happen to my life. A few days later, a man picked me up and put me in his pocket and that’s where I am today. Keri Holloway

The Sting Soccer Team I think that the Sting soccer team was the best ever. We had girls that could work together. We had all played soccer for so long that playing well together came automatically. Karrin and Rita were the best offense because they worked together. Karrin would usually pass to Rita on the right side and then Rita would go for a goal. Karrin, our center halfback was fast and v ery aggressive. Dribbling was her specialty. I had the most powerful boot, so I would play center halfback with Karrin. While she would race forward I would clear the ball up to her. We could also work by ourselves as individuals. Certain individuals w ere v ery athletic and were great in every position. I also played the position of main goalie. When we played the number one team in soccer, their best player was dribbling down the field with nobody on her. She came up to the goal and booted the ball high toward the far corner of the goal. I was just able to jump high enough that the ball hit the palm of my hand and went straight up in the air. When it came down I was able to catch it. We had the same team for indoor soccer and we won first place in that because the Sting soccer team was one of the best. Working together and individually we really were the best soccer team. Kelly Rigg
CRAWFISH IN THE SKY
A very long time ago, in Southern Louisiana, there was a crawfish that ate fabric. Big deal, right? Wrong. This crawfish was thirty feet long and 10 feet wide. It ate up the clothes of all the fish in the whole bayou and it grew very large. It came out of the swamp to find more food. It, of course, happened to wander into the town. Just another big deal, right? Shai This town, the particular town that the crawfish decided to wander into, was where Belezaire the Cajun lived. Belezaire is a legendary Cajun hero. He's the one who saved the Cajuns from the dreaded Klu Klux Klan. Now, the crawfish didn't know that Belezaire lived there, so it went along eating all the people's clothes. When Belezaire heard about this, he stomped off to find the crawfish. When the crawfish saw somebody approaching, it was puzzled because everybdoy else had run and hidden away from it. Curious about the man, the crawfish just stood and waited. Belezaire was so angry that he walked up to the crawfish, spit in its mouth, grabbed it by the tail, and hurled it into space, where it still remains today.
Old Han Peabody "I tell you, Jessica, Old Man Peabody is up to no good," Stacy said suspiciously "Yeah, he and his old dog, Muffy, are up to something Peabody gives me the creeps," Jessica mumbled looking at Peabody's house. "Maybe he just needs a friend," Mary Anne murmured. "Ever since his wife died, the only times I see him out of the house is when he has to garden or walk Muffy. He has so much pride in his plants." "He adores Muffy, too," Stacy supplied. "Get real, Mary Anne! Everyone knows Peabody is weird!" Jessica exclaimed. "What about all the stories about Peabody chaining kids in his basement?" "I have an idea. Let's trash his plants That'll really fix him!" Stacy suggested "And if that doesn't work, we can always shave Muffy," hissed Jessica with evil excitement in her voice. "I don't know about this, guys. It's one thing to trash his garden, but another thing to shave his dog!" Mary Anne argued shyly. "Chill out, Mary Anne! I was only kidding when I said to shave his dog! We re just going to trash the garden. We’ll be heroes among kids, and probably among adults, too." "Stacy and Jesssica, you can go right ahead the trash Old Man Peabody's garden, but I won't. I also won't mention it to anyone, but I refuse to take part in it." "Suit yourself, Mary Anne, but if we become famous heroes, don't expect us to share any of our glory with you! Come on Stacy let's make our plans." Mary Anne wondered if she really wanted to be friends with Jessica and Stacy They had treated her unkindly, and what they were planning to do to Old Man Peabody was wrong Mary Anne bravely walked over to Old Man Peabody's house. Muffy barked as soon as Mary Anne rang the door bell. Mr. Peabody peeped through the peep-hole and then opened the door. "What do you want, Young Lady?" "Uh-my name is Mary Anne." "Hello, Mary Anne, My name is Henry Peabody. What do you want? Are you here trying to sell me something? 'Cause if you are, I don't want it!" "No, Mr, Peabody, sir. I wanted to know if you would like me to walk your dog, Muffy " "I ain't payin' no one to do a job I can do myself," Old Man Peabody barked beginning to shut the door. "Mr. Peabody, I don't think you understand I want to walk Muffy for free, just so you can have more time to relax." "Well, come on inside. We can discuss this in comfort," said Peabody. Mary Anne reluctantly entered the house. She remembered all the stories Jessica had told her about Peabody chaining child visitors in his basement "So you mean to tell me, Mary Anne, that you want just to walk my dog for free?' "Yes." "A small tear emerged from Peabody's eye. He quickly wiped it away with his finger "You have the job, Mary Anne ." "Thank you, Mr. Peabody!" "Call me Henry, and you're welcome." That night, Mary Anne suggested a night walk with her parents "Well, it's a little chilly, but all right," Mary Anne's dad answered putting on his coat As they walked by Peabody's house they noticed small "keychain" flashlights moving around Peabody's plants. Upon shining their flashlights where the tiny lightning bug lights flickered, they were surprised to see Stacy and Jessica smashing Peabody's plants. Mary Anne's mom rushed to the two girls and held them while Mary Anne's dad rang the doorbell to Old Man Peabody's house, Mary Anne ran around to the back and brought Muffy out She carried the small dog to the front, released her, and instructed her to attack and bark, which she happily did. Mr, Peabody appeared to see what the noise was about. "Hi, Mary Anne, What's wrong?"
"We found these two girls tearing up flowers, Mr. Peabody," Mary Anne's dad said pointing to Jessica and Stacy. Stacy and Jessica s parents were called and came over. It was agreed that the two girls would have to pay for new plants and take care of them and the rest of the garden for two months. "Traitor!" yelled Stacy. "Liar!" Jessica roared at Mary Anne. "I'm no liar! I never told a single soul that you were going to trash the garden," Mary Anne explained to her "ex-friends". "Then why is it that vour family caught us?" Jessica asked smugly. "I never said I wasn't a traitor. I purposely asked my family to take a night walk so we could catch you. Henry Peabody is my friend," Mary Anne stated proudly. Once again a tear rolled down Peabody's face. "You gave up being friends with them for me?" "I sure did. And I'm glad I did the right thing.'' At those words, Muffy licked Mary Anne's face. JACK AND THE BEANSPROUT
Once upon a time, even before Miss Root was born, there was a kid named Jack. You have all heard of him before from the wonderful poem, "That Little Boy, His Name is Jack." As you also know from that same poem, Jack's mom was named Flack, and Jack and Flack lived in a shack. They also quite often got in fights with each other. Well, this time Flack became angry at Jack for eating his hoelaces too much. See, back in the once upon a time days, oelaces were very expensive because they were made out of Wooly Mammoth's tail hair and they had to be shipped from the great mountain ranges of Tahiti which took a long time to do, and by the time they got to Once Upon a Time Land, some of them were moldy. Anyway, she punished him. For his punishment she told him he had to give away his cow, Frederick. Of course, Jack -■-efused. He jumped on Frederick and they rode off into the sunset. After a while, they came into a village, where they slept in a barn for the night. In the morning Jack realized he was very hungry. He didn't have any shoelaces on, so he checked if Frederick had any. Frederick was busy eating hay because the sun was shining, and he wouldn't let Jack eat his shoelaces. Jack then thought of something wonderful. He would eat hay like Frederick! He did, and while he was eating, he decided that cows had great taste for food. All of a sudden, a farmer burst through the barn door and yelled, "What in tarnation's going on here? Son, why you eatin' hay?" Jack replied, "I'm hungry, and its good." "Well," the farmer said, "If you that hungry, you can have some of my vegetables. Somethin's funny with my beansprouts, hough. Maybe you can figure it out, I sure can't. Come'ere, I'll show ya." Jack and Frederick followed the farmer until they came to some big holes in the ground. The farmer then said, "Whenever I drop or plant a beansprout, a bottomless hole is made." "Well, sir — " A giant "Moooooo" interrupted. Jack turned around and saw to his horror that Frederick had fallen down one of the holes. Being the heroic kind of guy Jack was, he jumped in after Frederick. When Jack landed he looked around. Frederick was nowhere to be seen. Jack followed a path that led to a large caged-in meadow with hundreds of cows in it! He looked around and ... es! There was Frederick, lazily chewing his cud. JacJ^ then saw huge giant stomp over to the cage, grab a handful of cows 'iout six or sevep) and take them to a big room that said, bie (the big giant)'s Slaughterhouse!" "Oh, my God!" Jack thought. "He is capturing cows and making hamburgers out of them!" He ran into the slaughterhouse and just as Hobie was about to chop the cows, he boomed, "Fee, Fie, Fo, Adobe. I smell humans or my name's not Hobie." Hobie spotted Jack and started running after him. Jack ran along the side of the cage and Hobie tripped on it. He fell on the cage and created a big hole in it. The cows started running out of the hole. Jack jumped on Frederick and rode toward the hole with the other cows behind them. Meanwhile, Hobie scrambled to his feet. He started chasing them again. Jack and the cows jumped out of the hole. (Remember, cows can jump as high as the oon.) Hobie tailed a little behind them. While Jack was gone, the farmer realized that he had been dropping and planting the beansprouts upside down. He figured out that if he dropped them right side up, the beansprout would grow up instead of down. When all the cows had jumped out of the hole, the farmer dropped a beansprout right side up down the hole. Everybody watched as a giant beansprout grew straight up into the sky, with Hobie on top. They never saw Hobie again. Jack returned home and with all the cows he built a dairy products store. He became rich and bought hundreds of shoelaces. He and his mother lived happily every after.

F a iry Tale Once upon a time there was a prince that had been turned into a frog bv the wicked witch. Then the cute little princess came along, kissed the slimy frog, and they lived happily ever after. At least they were supposed to live happily ever after... . . .. , After Prince Charming and Princess Frog-Kisser got married, bought a nice little castle in England and moved in right away. Once the wicked witch heard that Prince Charming had broken her spell, she immediately left her hut in the middle of nowhere, to go on a quest for the magic herb, reversethespellandgetrevengeonyourvictim herb that grows only in the mountains north of the witch s hut. . While the witch was practically freezing to death in the mountains, the new couple was settling into their nice little castle in England. But they did not know that their sweet, little marriage was going to be ruined by that mean, old, sinister witch in the mountains. After finding the special reversethespellandgetrevengeonyourvictim herb the wicked witch hurried back to her hut in the middle, of nowhere, and began mixing the ingredients for her revenge on Prince Charming. Finally it was ready and she started chanting in some strange language. There was a flash of light, and the hut blew up. After the smoke had settled, the old granny witch figured out that she had put gunpowder in her bottle instead of the special herb. So she tried again and stayed ten miles away from the kettle and tried chanting there. There was a flash of light, but no explosion so the witch knew the spell had worked She cursed the Prince so next time the Princess kissed him he would turn back into a frog forever! (The witch did one of those evil guy l^u&hs)
Back at the castle, the couple were having dinner when the Princess said that she madly loved the Prince, and then they started smooching! (Ewwww, how gross!) All of a sudden the Prince turned into a frog! You can probably guess the rest. They lived sadly ever after.

lerella where everything turns out perfectly, and the prince and I live happily ever after. Let me tell you, though, it wasn't like that at all. I mean, I should know, I AM Cinderella. You ve all heard the part about how I had to work, work, work all day. and that was pretty boring, so let s get to the good stuff. I was sitting in my room trying to figure out when I would have time to make a dress for the prince s ball, when these dirty, disgusting little mice came scurrying across the floor. Well, the story says that they could talk and they made me a dress Wrong. For one thing, I hate micel For another thing, can mice talk and sew? I dont think so. So anyway, I screamed, and they became v e ry scared and ran away. Well, in the morning I still didn't know what to do about a dress for the ball I didn't have time to think about it because I had a lot of chores to do. As the day wore on, I realized that my stepmother was giving me as many chores to do as she could think of so that I wouldn't be ready in time for the ball. Since I wouldn't have time to make one, I thought I would just borrow a dress. I snuck into my stepsister Drusilas room and carefully selected a pink ball gown that she never wore. I tried it on and it was a perfect fit!!!. I thought it might be a nice touch to wear some jewelry, so I borrowed a pearl necklace from my other stepsister Anastasia I looked in the mirror and decided I was ready to go. I had barely reached the bottom of the stairs when Drusila and Anastasia screamed with rage because I was wearing their clothes. My stepmother made me take off my outfit and return it to my stepsisters. They left for the ball without me. I went outside to sulk, and our very eccentric neighbor, who was on her way to a costume party dressed as a fairy, heard my cries of despair. She came over to me and asked what was wrong. I told her my tale of woe. and she let me borrow one of her dresses. It was a pink ball gown with blue polka-dots. One thing about our neighbor was that she had a very odd shoe collection. She gave me a pair of glass slippers (talk about weird!) They were extrem ely uncomfortable and at least two sizes too small, but I couldn't complain. She offered me a ride to the ball in the carriage that was taking her to the costume party. When she dropped me off at the palace, she told me if 1 wasn't ready to go at midnight, I would have to walk home. The moment I walked through the door I saw the prince. Boy was he ugly!!! He had a big w art on his nose and he was really fat!!! As soon as he saw me this lovey-dovey look came over his face and he insisted that he dance with me. I was so glad when it was midnight that I ran out of the palace. The prince came waddling along after me, and I was running so fast that one of my glass slippers fell off. I didn't have time to go back for it, so I just left it there. The n eit day that fat little prince came to my house asking if the slipper belonged to me or to my two stepsisters. When I tried it on of course it was too small so the prince was sure it couldn't belong to me. My stepsister Drusila tried it on and it fit!!! The prince decided it must belong to her, and she was the girl of his dreams. They w ere married soon after. I am now married to the prince's hunka-munka cousin, and have so many ball gowns you wouldn't believe it. Now thatjs a happy ending. Robin Hindery ,
Adu Dhabi and the Forty Garbage Men Once upon a time there was a poor man named Abu Dhabi. One day when Abu was going to the m arket he saw he saw a stampede of forty men on ostriches. Suddenly the tallest one shouted, "Open loonacy!" And the side of the mountain slowly opened to reveal a cave. The forty men threw many bags full of something; he couldn't tell what it was. Again the tall man yelled, ' Close loonacy!" and the mountain slammed shut. Abu Dhabi went to investigate. He ran up to the mountain and yelled, "Open loonacy!" and just as before, the mountain openned and inside was a wonderful collection of glittering garbage. There w ere millions of flies dancing around the treasure. Abu Dhabi thought, T here is so much garbage, surely the garbage men won't notice if i take a minor portion of it." Abu took three large sacks of garbage home and when he arrived, his wife was so overjoyed that she told Abu's sister-in-law. Abu Dhabi s brother, Cassimalatikabacuianiwallochilleca Dhabi found out from his wife and being a v ery greedy man, set out to find the mountain. Just as he found the mountain, he saw forty men on ostriches arrive. The tallest one yelled, "Open loonacy!" and they all threw their bags in the cave and left. As they were leaving the cave the tall one yelled, "Close loonacy!" As the door was closing Cassimalatikabaculaniwallochilleca Dhabi ran into the cave. He took all the garbage that he could carry and ran to the door. He realized that he had forgotten the password. "Urn, open lambadamy. I mean open symmetry." The door didn't budge. Suddenly, he heard from outside the cave, "Open loonacy!" As the door opened, he saw the garbage men on their ostriches. They threw him into a giant trash compactor. Abu Dhabi never told another soul about the secret cave. Aaron Goldman
Why Mendoza Changed Mendoza changed from being a mean slave traitor to a kind hearted priest. Mendoza changed because he realized he was a cruel man when he killed his own brother in a duel. After the duel Mendoza knew, with the help of Father Gabriel, that he must go up the Iguazu Falls with all of his military equipment to punish himself and to help the Guarani Indians. When he reached the top he was so touched by the Guarani not killing him, he didn't want to kill anyone anymore, not even a wild pig. Mendoza became so attached to the Indians he risked his life defending them in the battle against the Portuguese. Todd Iwamoto

Watching Stanford Basketball You experience great thrills, chills and excitement when you watch Stanford basketball. The thrills are provided because sometimes when the score is close Stanford wins the game at the buzzer. For example, in one game the score was tied and someone went up for a lay-up at the last second and was fouled. He w ent to the free throw line and missed the first one, but when he shot the second ball, it rolled on the rim, causing heart failure and finally fell in. On that shot the crowd went wild and Stanford won by one point. One reason you have chills is because the competition is very close. Stanford plays a couple of very strong teams. During one game Stanford was down by two points. There w ere three seconds left on the clock, and a player took a shot and was fouled. The player took free throws and made the first one. He air balled the second one. We lost by one point. Stanford basketball is very emotional, both good and bad. I try to go to jiim an y games as possible. Ted Holloway

Emmit Smith Emmit Smith is the best running-back in the National Football League. He has won the rushing title two years in a row. He has been the principle factor in one of their two key plays, for example in the Dallas vs. Atlanta game in one run Emmit Smith broke two tackles, including one from Jesse Tuggle, one of the surest tacklers in the league. He then converted the run into a touchdown. There was also a news article calling him "the eyes of Texas" because of his knowledge of what is happening all over the field. Another amazing quality of Emmit Smith is his excellent hands. In all of the 1 9 9 2 -1 9 9 3 season he only fumbled four times. Therefore, I believe Emmit Smith is the most talented running-back in the NFL because of his quickness, acceleration, balance, good hands and his clairvoyance. Jack Watts
Maria was so excited when sne received the gift she wanted. She had decided a long time ago what she wanted: a kitty. She was going to name it Snowball, even though this kitty was far from a Snowball! She was black as night. There wasn't a spot on her! Maria ran next door to show her best friend, Kelly, the minute the kitty arrived. At the door she tried to hide the kitty behind her back, but couldn't. Kelly answered the door. As she looked at Snowball she yelled with delight, "Oh, she's beautiful!" She immediately took the kitty out of Maria's arms and gave her a huge hug! Maria and Kelly played with the kitty for three hours, when finally dinner came and Maria had to take Snowball home. Kelly begged to take the kitty for the night. Maria refused because she wanted to spend time with Snowball herself. But as the weeks passed, and Snowball grew, Kelly came to love Snowball even more. Christmas was coming up and Maria had to think of something to give Kelly. Maria had been thinking about this gift for a long time. On Christmas morning Maria walked nervously to Kelly s house, leaving a small box with holes in it at the door. On the box it read "Snowball". Jenny Upjohn

CIVILIZED? The Guarani would have been better off if the Europeans had left them alone. The Spanish meant well, but the culture clash and the Portuguese were too much. The Portuguese were scared. They thought that the Guarani were animals, so they hunted them down and sold them as slaves. The Spanish saw them as people and tried to civilize them and make them more European. And though the Guarani learned to read and write, they lost their own wonderful culture, religion, stories, and way of life when the Europeans came. They had to kill their third child so they could run from the slave traders, and in the end they ended up dying so that they could live on their land. Although the two cultures' meeting was inevitable, the Guarani would have been better off if it hadn't happened. Zachary Selmon

When I was two I did something I always rem em ber because of a certain flash. It was eight o'clock at night and I was upstairs playing in my room. My mom had just said I couldn't have a cookie. Well, I had a whole plan set up. I put on my snoopy slippers, straightened out my snoopy pajamas, and grasped my snoopy doll and headed downstairs. My older brother, Zach, heard me and followed me. My other older brother, Chris, was nine at the time, and he got to stay up until 9:00p.m . He, my mom, and my dad were all downstairs watching T.V. I quietly opened the cookie jar, and was about to grab a big creme-filled O-R-E-O, when Zach stomped down screaming, "Oreos, oreos, gimmee' gimmee'!" "Shut up!" I yelled to him. My mom and dad turned around and took a picture of us. My dad dragged me upstairs and put me in my crib. 1 was screaming and hollering at Zach, and he was laughing while I beat at my dad's back on the way up the stairs. He placed me in my crib and about twelve and a half minutes later I had come up with another idea, how to teach my brother a lesson. I stood up on my crib and made a dive for the ground. (Pretty smart, huh?) I landed nose first and made the tan carpet a ruby red color. I roared with pain and the feeling of not succeeding. I then saw my parents standing at my doorway. They washed my face off and carefully put me in my crib again. This time I was really mad. Instead of jumping out of it, I pushed it over! I looked around slyly, no parents. I ran diagonally across the hall to my brother's room. He was asleep, so I tiptoed across Chris's room and ran toZach's bed. I jumped and pounded on him. The wimp started whining and kicking. I was taken away again, but this time, I was laughing and he was crying. Up until 3 couple of years ago there was still a red spot on my carpet! I

Rosseus Perotus Rosseus Perotus was a kind man who only wanted to do helpful things in his life. All his friends in the sky teased him because he had gigantic ears. Rosseus was proud of his big ears because they could hear things miles and miles away. One day Draco the dragon said to Rosseus, "Your ears are so big that if you took a walk on the Milky Way your ears would get stuck in the curds! Hahahahaha!" Rosseus Perotus slowly walked away, unaware that someone was calling his name. Suddenly Rosseus s ears flew forward. Someone was screaming for help! Using his enormous ears as wings Rosseus flew through the sky toward the sound. The beautiful Clintonia was being attacked by a savage Busheus! Rosseus swooped down and hit Busheus on the head with his ear. Busheus crumpled to the ground in pain. The next day Clintonia and Rosseus married and no one teased Rosseus ever again. Suddenly, Busheus jumped out from behind Rosseus. He slapped Rosseus so hard that Rosseus flew up and landed in the sky. Rosseus landed next to Cygnus, the bird, and he is still there today, his enormous ears flapping in the wind. Philip Scarampi

Crunch Cathy had a brother named David who was always mean to her and her friends. Cathy’s family had gone up to Oregon for the summer, and Cathy had invited Robin and Steph. "Hey, Robin and Steph, let's do something really mean to David to get back at him for all the mean things he's done to us," Cathy declared suspiciously. "O .K .," Robin replied, "but what are we going to do to him? It's not like we have all the supplies we have back at your house." Steph thought for a minute and then remembered, "There's a mall down the road, so we'll think of the trick and then ride down to the mall and get the supplies we need." "O .K ., but now we have to think of a trick to play on him," Cathy reminded Steph. Everyone was silent and then Robin suggested, "How about we put snails in his bed." "Or we could crack an egg on his head, or T.P. his room," Steph answered. "Or we could spray him with shaving cream!" Exclaimed Cathy. They decided to combine their ideas. They rode down to the grocery store and bought two rolls of toilet paper, one carton of eggs, and four bottles of shaving cream. There were no snails at the grocery store, so they decided to go into Cathy's backyard. Cathy had the perfect bouse for this, because it's right on the edge of the Deschutes National Forest and there are a million snails there. The three girls rode back and went into the woods. They picked up ten plump, juicy snails. "Now we have to set up the trick," Robin said as they strolled back into the house. They had taken so long planning the trick that David was already asleep. The plan could still work, though. They snuck up to David's room and Robin sprayed shaving cream in both his hands. They tapped him right on the nose, and hq lifted his hand to scratch it. When he did that, he got shaving cream all over bis face. He woke up instantly and chased Robin and Cathy down the hall. Meanwhile, Steph put the ten snails in Ms bed. After a w h ile , David gave up. He went back, washed his face, and then went back to bed. When he got in bed there was a loud crunch and his face turned bright red with anger. He jumped out of bed and saw ten lifeless snails, and slime all over the sheets. He ran out, but Steph and Robin were standing there with bottles of shaving cream, wMle Cathy ran in and T.P.'ed his room. Then Robin, Cathy, and Steph all grabbed eggs and cracked them on his head. He was so mad! He was about to run down and tell on them, when Cathy threatened," If you squeal on us we'll tell mom about the time you snuck out to Chris’s party, even though you were grounded!" David didn't tell on them, but Cathy's mom found the mess and knew the girls had done it They had to confess. Cathy's mom only saw the toilet paper and the snails ( the girls made David clean up the eggs and shaving cream). Cathy was grounded for a week, and Steph and Robin had to help her clean up David's room, but all the girls agreed that it was W O It*1

The Real Jack and the Beanstalk

Once upon a time there was a very curious little boy named jack. I was just minding my own business in my giant house in the clouds when my excellent sense of smell picked up the stench of someone who had probably not bathed in weeks. But that didn't bother me half as much as when he tole my favorite goose that layed golden eggs. Just as I had forgotton about he goose, that little thief stole my bag of gold. I was so mad I could just sa; fee-fei-foo-fum . gp The next night right in the middle of my steak dinner, I heard some v ery tiny footsteps in the hall and I thought it was just one of those pesky mice, but when I looked around my beautiful, golden harp was gone! That was the last straw, I would have liked to grind his bones to make my bread! By th at time I was becoming so broke I couldn't even buy a simple beef and moose sandwich with mayo on a twelve foot bun. So I ran after Jack down a long beanstalk. Just as I reached the middle of the stalk that Jack fellow chopped it down and I fell to the ground. (That gave me a headache for what must have been months.) But Jack wasn't charged with breaking and entering, theft and $ attempted murder; I was charged with saying I would EAT him! Who would want to eat that smelly Englishman anyw ay? Well that's the life of a giant, and it's unfair I tell you, but if anyone knows where I could find a dirty little guy named Jack, I'd be VERY happy.

Ogaloma or Ogaloosa Ogaloma, the great butterfly, was a good friend of Herman, the magical meat cleaver. One day a beautiful princess was kidnapped by an evil lamb called Baron von Lamb Chop. The king told everyone, "Whoever brings back my daughter can have her as a wife." Ogaloma heard this and told his good friend Herman, the magic meat cleaver. Herman was a bachelor and was looking for a good wife to marry. Herman asked Ogaloma to help him kill the evil lamb; Ogaloma agreed. When Baron von Lamb Chop heard Herman and Ogaloma were after him, he panicked. He paced back and forth wondering what to do. Baron von Chop finally decided that he would rather the princess die than be taken from him. So he set out into the forest with the princess. She started screaming for help. "Like would someone pleeeeeeeeese help me?" "Shut up or I’ll keel you!!", screeched Baron von Lamb Chop. When they entered a thick part of the forest, the baron ordered her to stand in front of a tree. When she did the baron rushed at her with an ivory dagger. Just as the baron was about to kill the princess, Herman and Ogaloma came swooping out of the sky. Ogaloma dropped Herman on Baron von Lamb Chop. The baron screamed with his last breath. And then there was silence. Herman swept the princess up and Ogaloma helped them to church, so Herman and the princess could get married. The princess exclaimed, "Whoa! Am I gonna like marry you or what?!" Herman rolled his eyes thinking, "What have I done?!" To this day we can see Ogaloma, the great butterfly who helped Herman find his wife, hanging in the sky... Beauty and the Bear Once upon a time there was a girl named Beauty who was nineteen years old and the youngest of six children. Her mother was a real busy-body and one day her mother happened upon a large cave. Well, she just could not stand it; she had to go in. It was v ery dark in the cave, but as soon as her eyes became used to the change she found herself face to face with a big white bear. He said she could keep her life if she sent her youngest daughter to him for a year. The next day her mother delivered Beauty to the cave. The big white bear led Beauty inside where she found that after the first chamber there were 101 lighted rooms, the first fifty to the right were to be hers. They included a bedroom, a kitchen, a sitting room, and other recreational rooms, and a whole room filled with choclate and candy. One day when she was jogging around the main chamber as was her habit, she noticed a tiny, but wide door that she had not noticed before. It was five in the morning, and as far as she knew she and the bear w ere the only inhabitants of this strange place. Beauty had inherited just a little of her mother's nosiness and just had to see what was inside, so she crept in. She discovered a large room, and in the middle was an old solitary table with a small parcel on top. However, she did not notice the small package and lost all interest in the small room. But she did write in her journal that she had found room 102. Another month went by and Beauty was bored out of her mind. She decided that during the night she would go into one of the bear's rooms. She went to the fifth door and opened it slowly. Inside she found a young man asleep in the bed. Beauty screamed and froze where she stood. He stood up and told her everything. "First of all," he said, "My name is Prince John and I had a curse put on me by an evil witch from my land. The only way for me to return to my land is to go into room 102 which you discovered on your jog. Then I have to open the small package on the solitary table which you did not notice. It is the key to the door to return me to my kingdom. The old witch was a very cunning old hag and during light hours here I am a white bear and during the night I am a human, condemned to sleep. When I am a bear I can't fit through room 102 doorway and at night I always sleep." Prince John dropped off to sleep, but Beauty had a plan. The n e it night she woke the prince and led him through the 102 door and into the room. She opened the package and pulled out the key. She was v ery careful and quietly opened the door. Suddenly John turned into a white bear again, but she pushed open the door and they both went through. They found themselves in another smaller room with a chair in the middle. On the chair was a glass marked, "Cure for Prince John," He drank the cure and the room magically became the throne room of his palace. He asked Beauty to m arry him and she did, and they lived happily ever after. Teresa Falaschi
The Quest of Birdius Supremus Once upon a time, in the distant land of Lyonesse, the good King Bagdemus ruled over the people. Now, King Bagdemus had a lovely young daughter whose name was Arietty de Lyonesse. She was so beautiful that princes from far-off lands came to seek her hand in marriage, but she always found some eicuse for not liking them. One day Sir Garwin, from the country of Picadilly, came to see Arietty de Lyonesse. She could find no faults in him and they w ere to be wed the next month. Then, tragically the next week, an evil sorceress by the name of Paludo came in the middle of the night and kidnapped Arietty and hid her on the desolate island of Morvia. The coast of Morvia was guarded by ten fearsome dragons. Paludo locked Arietty de Lyonesse in a dungeon of her castle and there she would stay until someone could rescue her. When King Bagdemus heard this he was devastated and demanded that his knights go to Morvia to rescue her. King Bagdemus had five hundred knights and all of them failed. Sir Garwain of Picadilly begged King Bagdemus to let him try, but the King said no. Sir Garwain pleaded with King Bagdemus and the King reluctantly consented and gave him a magic cape which would turn him into a bird and change him back when he said, "Rumpledumplefoo!" He also gave him a sword and gave Sir Garwain his blessing. Sir Garwain set sail and reached Morvia before nightfall. He fell asleep in a cave and in the morning set out to free his bride. He met the first dragon and killed him by chopping his head off. This he did to every dragon until the last who was a humongus, powerful brute and when Sir Garwain tried to slay him, the dragon knocked him over with his claw. Sir Garwain mumbled, "Rumpledumplefoo," and there he was flying with the sword in one claw. He swooped down on the dragon and stabbed him on the top of the head with the sword. Mr. Dragon fell over and died. Sir Garwain said, "Rumpledumplefool" and turned back into himself. He then rescued Arietty de Lyonesse and sailed back to the mainland. King Bagdemus put Sir Garwain's bird form in the heavens and named it Birdius Supremus. the Supreme Bird, for he was a Supreme person. Shiyan Koh
