My report is on the Brontosaurus. The name of my dinosaur means thunder lizard, pronounce the dinosaur’s name like this, Bron-tuh-sor-us. He weighed 60 000 pounds He was an herbivore. A few were as small as a cat or a dog. Some were 70 feet long. They spent a lot of time in the water. I think they were camouflaged in the water. His enemy was the Allosaurus who did not go in the water. Brontosaurus walked slowly. He used his big tail for protection. I like my dinosaur because he’s neat! Shelby Clapp

My report is on the Triceretops. The color of my dinosaurs is brown. It had three horns and a frill on part of its body. It weighed about 500 pounds. It had a long tail It ate plants. He was 24 feet long. It lived in North America. It walked on four legs. It defended itself with its horns Its enemies were some of the meat eaters like the Tyrannosaurus Rexs! The Triceretops was one of the last of the dinosaurs. I wish they were still here! Gillian Bostock
My report is on the Hadrosaurus. He was about as big as a man. You pronounce its name (Had-ro-sawr-us). He was a plant eater (herbivore). He weighed about 90 pounds. His bones were found in North America He walked on two legs. He defended himself by going into water. His enemies were Tyrannosaurus Rex and other meat eaters. Hadrosaurus was a harmless dinosaur. I wish dinosaurs lived now.
My report is on Dimetrodon. It lived on land. I think the color was brown. It weighed 600 pounds. I think it moved fast. It ate meat. His ancestor was Eedafuhsaurus. I think the ancestor ate plants. We are lucky the dinosaurs are dead, because tyrannosaurus would eat everyone. I wish I could ride a dinosaur. William Schulz

My report is on the dinosaur called Silvisaurus. He was only thirteen feet long. He walked on four feet He had spikes. He had a small head. He had rough skin. He probably weighed about 300 pounds. Silvisaurus ate plants and leaves. He was an herbivore. He lived in the forest. His spikes on his tail kept his enemies away. They were very sharp. His name means •forest lizard.* His bones were first found in Kansas. I think he was slow because he doesn’t have long legs. His back legs were longer than his front legs. I don’t think he needed to fight many enemies, because they were afraid of him. I wish dinosaurs were alive right now! Doug Carter
My report is on Anklosaurus. It was built like a tank. Its hide was like a hard shell. It had large spikes. Other dinosaurs were not able to eat it It was armored in front It was armored in back. It had a small brain. It walked on four legs. It was an herbivore. It was 15 to 18 feet long. He had a very powerful tail that looked like a club. I think a smoke cloud came over the earth and destroyed their food supply. Then they died.
My report is on the Corythosaurus. This fellow was 18 feet long and was a swimming dinosaur. He had a bony crest on top of his head that looked a little like a helmet He had a long tail. He had webbed feet. He is a plant eating dinosaur. He lived in grassy areas and in water. He swam in streams and lakes. I think that he swam away when a meat eating dinosaur came. I think its crest was used to make his sounds louder, and it would bounce off the crest. I think that the color of the Corythosaurus had a green spot and gray and a little bit of black. I think they died because the plants died and the meat eaters could not eat the plant eating dinosaurs. I wish they were here today. If we do not stop polluting the air we will die too. Courtney Chandler
My report is on the Cynodon. It was the size of a wolf. The smallest one was the size of a rat The color of my dinosaur is green. It ate flesh. It was a quick moving dinosaur. My report is on Protoceratops. It was only five or six feet long. We do not know what color they were. It weighed 2 tons. It had a horn. It was a plant eater. It lived in a place with trees and an open field. It defended itself with its horn. I think it moved slowly. I think they died when other meat eating dinosaurs ate all of them. Then there were no more to eat so the other dinosaurs died too. Eric Barry
ENDANGERED SPECIES
Hundreds of plants and animals around the world are threatened with extinction.
More of
species have become endangered in the last 200 years than in the last ten millenia. Sadly, we can no longer attribute the increasing decline in our wild animals and plants to "natural" process.
Many are declining because of exploitation, habitat alteration or
destruction, pollution, or the introduction of new species of plants and animals to an area. We can do a lot for wildlife by learning more about endangered and threatened species and how they are protected.

THE AFRICAN ELEPHANT Abbey Martin The African Elephant is an endangered specie because poachers kill the animal for its ivory tusk. The African Elephant lives in the African grasslands. If the poaching does not stop the African Elephants will be gone in nearly 7 years. The poachers poach and get $50.00 per pound for the tusks. This is a lot of money for people in Africa who make very, very little money all year. No one should buy anything made from ivory.
Naomi Bostic The zebra liv e in South Africa. It is an animal that looks a lot like a horse in his appearance, but it has stripes on its body. People have hunted the 2ebra mainly for his beautiful coat and his flesh. HOW EARTHQUAKES CAME TO BE A long, long, time ago, when there were only Indians and animals on the earth , earthquakes came to be. Here’s how the story goes: It was night time. An Indian tribe was sitting around a fire when all of a sudden a big fifty-foot Mammoth appeared on the land. The Indians were frightened. Mammoth started jumping up and down, twenty feet in the air, and stamping his giant feet. The ground was shaking furiously. The fire began to spread. Many of the Indians caught on fire and were seriously hurt. The Indians were mad. They got all their bows and arrows and spears. They started to attack him. As they were killing Mammoth, Mammoth started jumping up and down again and stamping his giant feet again. Finally Mammoth died. And even though there are no Mammoths today, his spirit comes down from the sky and jumps up and down and stamps his feet where he can’t be seen. And that’s how earthquakes came to be. HOW THE CHEETAH GOT SO FAST
A n one year of ancient times, Oh Bodacious Friend, the fastest animal was Tiger. Tiger could run 8,000,000,000,000,000 miles per hour. It could run so fast that it could kill an animal in thirty seconds. The animals hated this so much, because their friends were getting killed so quickly. The animals were getting killed so quickly that by the year 1 A.D. there was only one Lion and one Leopard in Africa. They all hated Tiger because he was so fast before, he was fast now, and they thought he was going to be fast in the future. They wanted to kill Tiger. But Cheetah, Lion, and Leopard all hated violence. So they challenged Tiger to a 8,000,000,000,000,000 mile race. Lion and Leopard chose Cheetah because he was the fastest. Even though Cheetah didn't like the choice, he agreed with them because he was the fastest an’mal. The race was scheduled for 10 A.D. at 1:00 p.m. At the time of the race, Cheetah and Tiger lined up at the ’ginning, The race was in the dry, dreadful, dull, and dinky desert. Lion was the starter of the long, linky, and large race.
Suddenly Cheetah started to run like a fast, fearsome, floppy animal. Tiger stood up and also started to run. Three minutes later, Tiger caught up with Cheetah. They looked at each other but kept running. Suddenly Cheetah and Tiger bumped into a tree. Cheetah and Tiger’s spirits changed. Three hours later, Oh Bodacious Friend, Cheetah started to run at seventy miles an hour. After the race, Cheetah was the fastest animal on land.

E CREATURE FROM FALLEN LEAF LA! The funniest and most exerting thing that ever happened to me was at Stanford Sierra Camp at Fallen Leaf Lake. I went up with my family. We had been there for about three days. My friend, Matt, and I took a canoe out. When we had paddled about half-way to the beach (the place where we were going), I saw a green mossy hand on the side of the canoe, and it started to tip us over! I called to Matt, but it was too late. We tipped over. I tried to call to Matt again but it was too late again. The thing grabbed my leg and started pulling me down in the lake. Finally I got loose and went up for air. I saw Matt on top of the canoe and then the same thing happened to him. The thing grabbed him by the foot and dragged him down. He was there for at least thirty seconds. It gave me enough time to turn the canoe over. Matt came up and then the thing came up. The thing turned out to be D.J. my group counselor. It was very funny. Tait Waterman
MARK When I was six years old my dad had someone working for him. He worked in the yard and ran errands for him. His name was Mark. Mark was a very nice man. He was young and had a little beard. He wore jeans almost all the time. He would pick me up from school, and I would go to the dump with him. He bought me cokes and all that fun stuff. I really liked him. We had a lot of parties back then in the olden days. They were big parties. We had a hundred dollars stolen from Sophia, the person who cleans the house and takes care of my sister and me. This happened at one party. Another hundred dollars was stolen from my mom and dad at a different party. We couldn’t figure out who was doing it. The next week when we went downstairs we found that our doorknob was trashed. It was very, very, very, very, very, very, scary, scary, scary, scary, scary, scary. Mark would drive me to friends’ houses and played with me. By this time he had been working for us about two months. About one month later, we had a telephone call from Mark’s mom. She said, "Mark is taking drugs and he just admitted that he stole the money from you at your parties.’ Everyone in our family was shocked, especially me. I was very disappointed in Mark. I was also very thankful that he hadn’t hurt me. I never found out what happened to him and I never saw him again. THANK GOODNESS. Zachary Trailer
HOW THE PENGUIN GOT ITS TUX

HOW THE LEAVES GOT GREEN
t n the beginning of time on the island of JanSaiifca, all the leaves were brownish, bluish, blackish, yellowish, orangish, purplish, greyish and pinkish, or in other words, red. The monkeys were very distracted by the leaves being so 'increedably' bright because it looked like they were on fire, and they were so bright it was hard to look at them. One day all the monkeys had a meeting. The men monkeys were thinking very hard and could not think of any ideas. Then a little baby said, "Have all the Jamaican mamas paint the leaves green.' The monkeys 'decreeted' to do that. The next day the monkeys asked Lizard to stand under the waterfall and have the color of his skin come off into a bowl. Lizard did, and he brought it to the monkeys. When the green glop got there, the monkeys painted the leaves, and that, Oh’Best Beloved, is how the leaves became green. Tory Patterson

W HY THE PENGUIN DOES NOT FLY
the days when the world was very new to the universe and all, Oh Best Beloved, there was a whitish-blackish-grayish Penguin that lived at the freezing-coldish North Pole. On one spectacular day, Penguin, with his ’satiable curtiousity, decided that he would fly away to scorching-hot Africa to meet the famous Koodoo. After a lot of extraordinary thinking, Oh Best Beloved, then talking to his very best friends, Polar Bear and Eskimo, Penguin decided to take his fabulous flying trip in one month, and this month, the month of March, went very fast. After much preparing, Oh Best Beloved, Penguin was ready to take his fabulous trip. Now on April 10, Penguin was about to take off with his power wings. The Djinn of the world came as fast as light, Oh Best Beloved, and zapped Penguin to an ice-cold stop. Now the Djinn defrosted Penguin and said, "If you go to scorching-hot Africa, you shall melt into nothing but a mere puddle of water!" And Penguin’s response was a very astonished look. Then he said, "But why, Djinn, did you not tell me of this horrible thing that is upon me?" But before he had finished, Djinn had vanished. Then, what Penguin didn’t know, Oh Best Beloved, was that Djinn was still watching over Penguin. The next day Penguin decided, Oh Best Beloved, that he would try to succeed in his extraordinary flying adventure. Then out of the foggy-smokey-misty mist came Djinn and warned Penguin again, Oh Best Beloved, but with Penguin’s ’satiable curtiousity, he still wanted to go to scorching-hot Africa. The next day, Penguin decided he would try once more. Just as Penguin was about to take a smooth-slick-take-off, Djinn stopped Penguin in the freezing-cold mist and said, *l have warned you for the last time, Penguin! You shall lose your flight!" Then he got quickly zapped to no flying power. That is why, Oh Best Beloved, the Penguin doesn’t fly. Jason Friedrichs
HOW THE FOX GOT HIS TAIL Once long ago before the gods there was a Fox. Fox was very smart and had a sense of smell as good as the eagle can see, but Fox had no tail. He would see Horse and Squirrel with their fine tails and he longed for one like theirs. One day Fox was walking through the woods and saw Chipmunk. Chipmunk was caught fast in a white man’s trap. Chipmunk pleaded to Fox for freedom. Fox saw Chipmunk’s beautiful tail and had an idea. "Chipmunk if you give me your tail, I will set you free!". Chipmunk thought about this. He felt that his tail wasn’t as important as his life so he agreed. After Fox let him out of the trap and his life was safe, he hacked off his tail and gave it to Fox. And that is why the Chipmunk has a stub of a tail and the Fox has a long, beautiful one. Alice Hunt

Tuesday at approximately 3:00 p.m. in Marin a girl named Rapunzel was given to witch Zitti because of an incident that happened almost one year ago. According to Rapunzel’s father, George, what happened is that Rapunzel’s mother was forced to give up her child. Long ago she had really wanted some rampion from Zitti witch’s garden. So Rapunzel’s father, George, climbed over Zitti’s wall and got some rampion. About a day later Rapunzel’s mother, Mary, wanted some more rampion so George went again. That time I got caught! Zitti told me that I could take the rampion but I must give my first born child to her! I agreed for my wife’s sake although I don't think it’s fair. I think Zitti should be sent to jail.* When Zitti was interviewed she said, •Well, you see, he shouldn’t have been stealing in the first place.* (At this point she laughed). "That was my prize rampion. I have won lots of prizes with it! So I think I should get to keep his daughter, Rapunzel. That would be fair ’cause he started it.’ Rapunzel’s mother said, *l think I should win this case because I’m her mother, although I shouldn’t have asked George to get some of Zitti witch’s rampion. *l want my daughter back,* She started crying. This case will go to court on Thursday, July 2 2 ,1982. Kimmy Morris

It was a cold, windy morning about two years ago. My cousins and I were on our way to go skiing at Lake Tahoe. For some reason, my stomach felt really wierd, and I felt like something was going to happen to me. When we got to Squaw, my cousin Stephanie and I started to go wait in line for the lift. The funny feeling in my stomach was getting worse and worse. When it was our turn to go on the lift, I was going nuts! I guess I didn’t get a good grip on the seat, because the next thing I knew, I was holding onto the seat of the lift with only my left hand. Stephie was calling to me, ‘Climb back up here! Climb back up here, or you’ll fall down!’

I didn’t hear her very well because I was losing my grip, and I was hanging onto the lift with one little pinkie! It’s true! But I was losing my grip. I couldn’t hold on much longer. The next thing I knew...PLOP! OUCH! I fell about fifty feet down! Steph was holding onto my hand when I fell so she came falling down after me. We were both terrified, but luckily nobody was hurt. We were frozen because we fell flat on our faces in the snow. Finally we got up and skied down the slope. We found a telephone and called our moms. Then we went home. What an adventure!
THE SHOE One day I was sitting in a shoe shop on a shelf. I had a huge stomach ache. All of a sudden there was a large boy right in front of me. I think he liked the colors royal blue and white, and those are the colors I am. He bent down and picked me up and bought me. I was so happy. When we got to his house he put me on. Then I heard his mother call his name. Now I know his name. His name is Zach Trailer and he loves to play basketball. Zach’s one of the best ones on his school basketball team and he loves to wear me when he plays basketball. One day he was playing a basketball game and it felt like a massage, but the ground shook because of the other big kids jumping. Somebody blocked Zach’s shot. He fell to the ground. I was really scared about Zach. Zach got up and made one of the two free throws. Since Zach was all right, I went to sleep and had a good night. Mark Roberts
CHILD IN CUSTODY FOR BREAKING AND ENTERING Yesterday, at nine o’clock a.m., Goldilocks was arrested. She was caught coming out of the Three Bear’s house in the Forest Green Woods. She has been accused of breaking and entering. Goldilocks says she was out for a walk and could not find her house, and that she was tired and hungry. She says that the Bears had left the door open. After waiting for them to answer the doorbell, she decided to go inside and see what was in there. She stated, ■Well, I went in there ’cause I had an awful headache and I wanted some children’s Tylenol. When I got there, I saw that they didn’t have any, but I saw some porridge and I tasted it. It tasted good, but it didn’t take my headache away. I went to sit down, but I broke the chairs, so I went to sleep in a bed. Then I heard the siren, and I didn’t know what had happened." According to the Bears, she ate Baby Bear’s porridge, broke Baby Bear’s chair, and was still in Baby Bear’s bed when they got home. When they found she was there, they crept quietly down the stairs and called nine-one-one. The police came and arrested Goldilocks. Baby Bear was interviewed and said, •Goldilocks was sleeping in my bed. She broke my chair and ate my porridge. It isn’t fair. We were just going on a walk. I think Goldilocks’ sentence should be life in jail although I might visit her once or twice and give her porridge ’cause I guess it was partly our fault for leaving the door open.' Goldilocks will go to court next month. Some people think her sentence will be life in jail and some people think she will get the death penalty. Katie Meehan

MISS CLOATON, THE EVIL ONE The scariest thing that happened to me was when I was six in first grade in Los Angeles. It was sports time in the spring at 1:00. We were playing baseball. I was at bat. The bat was plastic. The teacher was Miss Cloaton. She was always mean to me and yelled at me. She was small and thin and had white hair. I hit the ball and it went flying into left field. I threw the bat and it hit Miss Cloaton in the stomach. I ran to first base. I looked back and saw Miss Cloaton turning red with anger! She acted like it hurt. She hugged her stomach and groaned as if it hurt. I was scared. She was very mad. She yelled at the top of her lungs, 'You kid, why did you throw the bat at me? You could have killed me!' I was even more scared! At that very moment I wet my pants. Everyone laughed and I just stood there in shock. I went over to Miss Cloaton and asked if I could get a drink of water. Yes, she croaked. I was very frightened and ran off as fast as I could and drank water for the rest of sports. When the bell rang, I walked slowly back to the classroom, and on the way back I wet my pants again! I just sat at my desk and was scared for the rest of the day. When I got home, I told my mom and she felt sorry for me. That night my brother kept jumping out and making me scream. I got into my bed, still feeling scared, and dreamed about my day. The next morning I was ready to tackle another one of Miss Cloaton's classes. Shelley Clark
HOW THE ARMADILLO GOT ITS ARMOR
lh Best Beloved Reader, this is my story. One day the Armadillo was deep in the woods. It was in those days of the knights. King Arthur’s knight, Aramis, whose emblem was the Armadillo, was about to charge to get all three rings with his lance and trusty horse who was snorting like crazy. He got all three rings. At the end of the day, Aramis walked into the woods and found an Armadillo, so he brought it back to the castle and asked the armor maker to make some armor for his Armadillo that he had found in the woods. Finally, the armor maker finished the armor so the knight Aramis could put it on his Armadillo. That is what he did, but the armor was too small and Aramis could not get the armor off. He tugged and he pulled, but he could not get the armor off, and that is how the Armadillo got its armor. Andrew Wollenberg

It was a hot su’mrfieT day .’ I was four years old. A babysitter was watching e. Her name was Christy. She was about twelve. We decided since it was a ce day we would go outside to play in our back-yard. We had a swingset in r back-yard. Our back-yard was cute. It had a patio with furniture on it. It also ad a big tree with lots of little flowers all around it. Our back-yard had lots of grass. All the plants in the back-yard were like a little jungle. Christy decided to swing on the playset and I decided to play on the slide. My mom was out * • * opping with my grandmother. 9 ^ 3 I decided to go down the slide. I went sliding down it. At the end I turned "around, and I hit my chin on the bottom on the slide. •Ouch!’ My chin was gushing with blood. We had to go inside and get a *> washcloth. In a few minutes the white washcloth was practically all red.

For some reason my mom thought something was wrong with me so she 0 came home (it was like she was psychic). My mom took me to the Menlo Clinic. There I had to have a shot and get stitches.
It was 7:00 in the morning. My mom and I had just woke up. It was very cold! The doorbell rang. My mom went to answer the door. I was right behind her when she opened it. There was a man dressed in a telephone suit trying to tell us that our telephone lines were disconnected, but my mom told him that our telephone wires were six feet underground. Suddenly he started charging my mom, but I stepped in front of her. He paused, and my mom slammed the door in his face. Then I saw him run into our backyard looking for a way in, but my mom rushed around and locked all the doors. He even went onto our roof. Finally, after about two hours, he left. Two days later we read in the newspaper the same man was pulled over for speeding. The police looked in the back of his van and saw......... five dead women! The police were going to arrest him when he pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head. He died instantly.

/O CHAPTER 30 I was running with Rontu-Aru at my side. I saw the stream that my tribTused for water. Then I saw my village. It looked just as I had remembered it. Then I saw an old, feeble woman climb out of her little hut. She saw me, and she called to everyone in the hut to come out. The moment they all saw me they ran toward me. Rontu-Aru barked and growled. I made him stop. Then I saw an old familiar face. It was a face I hadn’t seen for many, many moons. It was my grandmother. I ran to her. She held out her arms. I ran into them. She said "Lomara I’hommereara I’homecol arara Mazzoni (Come my little child. Where have you gone)?" ■Eckey fesle’r finco fo (I have been to a mission). Horseback riding and dinner prepared over an open fire this summer wifi never be forgotten. The setting was a valley right outside Yosemite. This journey consisted of twelve friends from camp, six leaders, and myself. Most of the time that the group of us were on horseback, we rode on an exciting trail All of a sudden we entered a massive, breathtaking valley. Everyone dismounted and tied up their horses. We collected wood, and then started a fire. Later we roasted hot dogs and marshmallows. Everyone got a can of soda We remained there for a little while. At about five o’clock we mounted our horses and rode back to camp. That concluded a greatly enjoyed day. Alexandra Lowry

LUNCH WITH 2SA ZSA I was in my Rolls Royce eating lunch when I ran out of grey poupon. Suddenly Zsa Zsa pulled up in her stretch limousine with her two dogs. I rolled my window down and asked for some grey poupon. She said no. She only had caviar. Her dogs Puffy and Muffy were eating it. Then she said she was going to an expensive restaurant and asked if I would like to qo I said yes and we went to Fifi’s. I had the most expensive lunch ever. Her dogs had caviar while we dined. I had Boston steak with escargots. Zsa Zsa had the special lobster with outstanding clams. We had the most exquisite red wine named after Zsa Zsa. It was called Zsa Zsa 1806. For dessert we had chocolate mousse with truffles. After we were done she kissed me on both cheeks really fast Then like a bolt of lightning she zoomed off in her stretch limo. After she ran off, the waiter gave me the $200,000.00 check. Then I thought about eatinq with her. I decided that I would never dine with Zsa Zsa again. Brandon Clapp
THE TWO WAY JOKE I was sitting in my room on April Fool’s Day, trying to think of an idea to play on my best friend Jessica. I had invited her to spend the night. Then it hit me. I would put some worms in her sandwich. I ran downstairs to make her sandwiches. When Jessica got to my house, she put her stuff down and we quietly walked to the kitchen to eat. She ate every last bite of her sandwich. That night, while we were telling ghost stories, I felt something cold and slimy at my feet. I switched on the light and threw back my covers and saw ten partly crushed snails. I called to my mom and she changed my covers. After my bed was changed, I turned off the light and slept happily. The next morning I said to her, 'You know yesterday was April Fool’s Day, don’t you?' She said, 'Yes.' Then I said, 'You know that sandwich you ate yesterday? Well I put at least sixteen ot seventeen worms in it. She said, 'Ewwwwwwwwww.* Then she said, 'I put those crushed snails in your bed.' Then we burst into peals of laughter. Kristin Hepper
WHEN I WAS A BASEBALL I was being held very tightly by the pitcher of the A’s. I had a stomach ache because I had been flying back and forth for so long. I was flung through the air and 'W ham !' Will Clark hit me. I flew through the air sicker than ever. Someone in the crowds caught me. Then another person grabbed onto me and wrestled me to the ground. At this point I was soooooo nauseated. After the game I was driven home in a dumpy old truck. It was a bumpy ride. I was thrown all over the car. When I arrived at a house a furry monster dug his sharp, ragged white rocks into me. Lots of watery goo stuck all over me. The smell was the worst part It smelt like liver and cheese. I couldn’t stand it anymore. All my insides came o ut The dog had ripped me open. Oh, how I hurt! Here and there lay parts of me. One part of my head was still in the monster's mouth. He trotted off with it, looking like he had just accomplished something. I knew that I would never be able to be played with again and my best days were over. Cina Loarie
A PERSON I REMEMBER
Someone who really affected my life was my first grade teacher, Mrs. Simms. She was not very tall. Her hair was short and brown. Deep curls framed her small round face. She had a dark complexion and perfect teeth. The clothes she wore were extremely cute. She usually wore long loose dresses. She was very stylish. Her clothes always matched. Mrs. Simms was a very good teacher. During the classes she taught, Mrs. Simms would play classical music; for instance, Beethoven, Mozart, and Bach symphonies. She taught us how to really appreciate classical music. Even now I listen to the enchanting music at night She also taught me art and the individual techniques of different artists. Today I still remember her and her love for the arts. Andrea Marshall
THE LION AND THE FOX Once there was a lion who had found a fox sleeping near a thicket. He was very hungry and decided that the nice, plump, juicy fox would make a wonderful dinner. Just as he was ready to pounce on the fox, the fox awoke. Seeing a lion with a golden mane and shining ivory teeth smiling at him, he knew at once what would happen. ■Stop!" he shouted, *for I am a holy messenger from God. Eat me and you will regret it!' ■How do I know you are telling the truth?" inquired the lion. ■Follow me to my cave and watch the animals run from my image,’ the cunning fox said. The lion agreed, and as they were on their way, they met a family of rabbits. On seeing the lion, they ran fairly for their lives. Further along the way they met a buck feasting on some emerald-colored grass. As it raised its head, it saw the lion and ran away as fast as its hind legs could carry it. Upon reaching the fox’s cave, the fox turned to the lion and said, "So now you see, from the animals’ terror of me, I am a messenger from the Holy Father himself.' And with that he turned into the cave snickering, leaving the lion confused. Moral: Brains will always outwit muscle. Joshua Wong

MY PLAN I was sitting in the pool, floating on my plastic whale enjoying a comic book, when my brother Neil ran up yelling. I froze stiff, when he jumped on me and flipped the whale over. I yelled, Til get you!' He stuck his tongue out at me. That filled me with rage! That night while Neil was asleep, I would find my cat, put him at the bottom of Neil’s bed, and also smear food on my brother's head. My cat would go wild! * * * When we were watching T.V. at 9:00, Neil said he was tired and went to bed. I said the same. I hid the cat in my room. I waited for five minutes to pass. THE SCHEME FOR CINA It was one day before April Fool's Day; at night I had a dream about a trick I was going to do for tomorrow. Finally a thought came right to me. I know i I'll play a trick on Cina even though she is my best friend. I'll switch lunches with Cina and I’ll eat Cina’s lunch while she eats my hard plastic food that looks so real! When April Fool’s came, it was Library and Computers Class. I was in Computers; I knew Mr. Carey wouldn’t mind me being a little late for class. I stayed in the classroom until everyone had left. Then I made the switch, but I really wasn’t sure if it was Cina’s bag. I hoped it was Cina’s bag because she was the person I wanted to get back at from last year. After Library and Computers it was lunchtime. So I sat by Cina and was hoping she would eat something. I had to use the bathroom so I ran off. When I came back, I was shocked because I thought Cina was really eating the hard plastic food. I dug into my bag to eat something. Then ■Bang." All twenty-four smackers. And I had no teeth for the rest of the school year. But I was going to get her for next year for sure. • . Dana Vinegar MY LIFE AS A DESK I am in the front on the far left of the classroom. I was put here towards the end of August. When I looked around the room, I saw some of my old buddies from the desk factory. This was great! I would be in a room all day and night with my best friends!

was placed next to Freddy. About a month later the lights went on for the first time since I had arrived. In came a funny old lady toddling over to our group leader. Fifteen minutes later, boys and girls came pouring into the room. A boy sat in Ralph by the name of Hiroshi. The next thing I knew, feet were on top of my shoulders, and dirty smelly books were shoved in my hands. I was also being decorated with a pencil holder with pencils (without erasers and with bite marks) and pens in it He took his feet off me and started poking me with something the funny lady called a compass, when she yelled at him to put it away. I hurt so much I wanted to scream. Then I felt big long strokes of lead being scribbled all over me. I tickled. This was not what I had expected! What a disappointment! Jenny Alden
APRIL FOOL’S DAY Oh boy, this going to be great, I said to myself. Today my sister and her friends are going to get it. Today was April Fool’s Day. Three of Claire’s friends were coming over to have a party. They had no idea of what of what they were in for. Maybe I would booby trap her room. Yeah, that was what I’d do. I’d invite Brandon over to do what had to be done. The supplies we needed were eggs, string, assortments of pencils, tape, water balloons, roaches, and the one and only stink bombs. After collecting all our essentials, we lured Claire out to the patio with her friends with an endless treasure hunt. First we'd set up a trip wire in the hail connected to an open bottle of a stink bomb. Then, when she walked through the hall, her pillow would stink. By the way, the pencils and tape were for setting up the trip wire. Now, I’d put the the roaches and eggs in a big basket over her desk. She’d be unhappy when she opened her door. For the greatest booby trap of all, I'd set up balloons all over her room filled with water! When she pulled her chair from her desk, kapooey. A chain reaction of popping water balloons. After we finished double-checking everything, we hid in the closet and waited. Didn’t I tell you this was going to be awesome? We got tired of waiting, so we went out to play catch. About a minute or so later, I heard screams of anger come from Claire’s room. I guess it . worked. Philip InseP

I WAS A PIECE OF GUM I sat on the shelf in AM PM, crowded among the other boxes of gum packs. One day, this little girl came in and bought me. She put me in her mouth. On her way home I dropped out of her mouth. I looked down and I saw the sidewalk coming closer. I heard this big SMASH! I had hit the sidewalk. That night it rained and I was cold. Then a boy came and stepped on me and all the way to his house I was stuck to the bottom of his shoe. It felt horrible. Every time he put his shoe on the sidewalk I was flattened. When I approached his house, his mother asked to see his shoes. He lifted up his foot and his mother flung me onto the ground. An hour later I felt a wet gross thing that was long and red. It licked me. Then I saw these big white mountains coming down on me. A minute later I died in the thing that was hairy, four-legged, and had a tail that waaaed.

It was really cold tonight. Snow was falling everywhere, and it was very hard to walk. I’m a member of the Sons of Liberty. Our group met at a store house near Griffins Wharf. Then we dressed up as Indians. We went outside and climbed aboard a ship that carried 300 tons of te a That was worth about $90,000. Everybody was picking up crates of tea and dumping them into the ocean. I was feeling great! t ■*
Finally the British got what they deserved! When I looked around almost all the tea crates were gone. Then I heard a shot and saw four British soldiers! I was so nervous that I dropped a crate on one of the soldiers... Then I jumped off the boat and tripped. I was caught by a Lobsterback. I punched him in the face, but he wouldn’t let me go. He took me to a jail, where I’m writing this tonight. The worst thing about all this is that at dawn I will probably be hung... Mike Hood
MY NIGHT WITH CHRISTY I was sitting at home watching a movie, and then the telephone Brinkley, and she asked me if I wanted to go out and have an extravagant dinner at some French restaurant. I said yes, so she said she would pick me up at seven. That was only an hour away so I had to rent a tux and take a shower. It was five till, and I was ready. Just at that moment, I freshened my breath. At seven she was there, right on the dot. She was in her black Lamborghini. I went outside and got into the car. I gave her a bunch of roses, and we were off. She was wearing a tight sexy leather outfit. Her hair was light blond like mine. Her eyes were as blue as the oceans in Hawaii. Her lips were covered in glossy lipstick. She was pushing the pedal to the metal on the freeway on our way to Stars. We were in Beverly Hills and we were excited to have a romantic dinner. W e arrived at Stars ten minutes later. A small French waiter said, "May I help you monsieur." "Yes," I replied. "We have a reservation for two under Silverberg." "Yes, we have a wonderfully extravagant table in the back so you can be alone." He showed us to our table. I ordered the most expensive bottle of champagne they had. We were having a great time! I had a wonderful dinner. W e left, and we were on our way to the disco to dance the night away. We were getting down and getting funky. I never knew she was such a good dancer. The last dance was a slow one. She stepped on my foot a couple of times but I didn’t care. W e were on the way to my place. When we arrived at my seven million dollar mansion, we kissed and said good-bye. I went into my room and could not believe that I had gone on a date with the prettiest girt in the world! DINNER WITH MANTLE I had just told my mom I’d won a dinner with Mickey Mantle. His committee chose me cause I was the rudest, most obnoxious kid they had ever met (and the one most like Mantle). We were going to Mantle’s, his very own restaurant. He picked me up at 7:30 in a limo that had all his baseball stats painted on the trunk. There was a bronze statue of him batting on the hood. All this pomposity made me want to jump for joy. In his limo we talked about how great he was. When we reached his restaurant he said, ■Kid, here s your choices,' as he pulled out a huge menu only for his friends and him (which he didn’t have). I ordered the Mantle Miner's Plate, which was a dirty old plate. As for Mantle, he knew better than to eat at his own restaurant I scarfed down my dirt and we quickly left Mantle’s.

We arrived at a movie theater showing -Mantle at Bat.' After hours of his movie we left. Suddenly it hit me. My mom had wanted me home hours earlier. His driver accelerated and we stopped at my house minutes later. He said, 'Kid, see you later/ and sped off. I hope next year I can be rude enough so his committee picks me again. Champ Roth

March 5, 1770 The date was March 5, 1770. The snow stung my face as I trudged through the deep snow with my mother and father at my side. We walked on until we reached a group of screaming and fighting people. I could see some British soldiers in front of the crowd looking on with stem faces. Their long guns stood lifelessly at their sides. Before I knew it they had taken action and shot their guns into the crowd. I looked to my right to see if anybody had been killed or wounded. When I saw my mother laying in the bloody snow, I cried out in horror. NO! I fell in the snow next to her crying my heart out, wishing it were all a dream. All of a sudden I felt my father’s strong arms pulling me out of the snow. As I looked into his tear-stained face, I knew she was gone forever. We lifted her body from the snow and started trudging home again. As we walked home, I knew I would not forget her. 4 Audra Gilsing

MY LIFE AS AN AIRPLANE As the stewardess said, 'Please fasten your seat belts,' some kids were crying and others were driving little cars along my esophagus. I couldn't take this abuse! It was a long way to Florida I was dreading the food and drink time. Well, everyone knows all the abuse I get when it’s food and drink time. Then all the garbage; ugh, it stinks! I’m pretty new at being an airplane and Mom said it might have its ups and downs, but this is ridiculous. When it becomes food and drink time, my friendly smile frowns, my blue and yellow stripes don’t look blue and yellow, and my white skin feels gray. After food and drink time, some wierd guy with a gun stood up. He said, 'Hands up. Put your cash in the aisle!' Oh, boy, I thought - quietness. Then I realized this was called a hijacking. I’d seen this on one of my movies when we were going to Europe. When I was in flight school, before I became a commercial plane, I remembered someone just had to push my emergency button, on the left. That alerted the pilots who then could call the tower and save us all. Only it happened a little differently. The end of the emergency all began when a child accidently hit the emergency button. This activated the pilot who put me on automatic pilot. He then left to see what was wrong. I saved the day by flying back to the tower all by myself. I received lots of exposure to the press, and the airlines decided I was such a hero they put me in the Smithsonian Museum, and I was given my own sign that said, 'DO NOT TOUCH!'
MY BIG TRICK It was April Fool’s Day. I heard how my sister was wishing for a treasure chest full of gold. When my sister was over at a friend’s house, I set up my trick. First I dragged out an old table. Then I found some cardboard and newspaper. I made it look like a mound. Then I took some cardboard and taped it all around her room. Then I spray-painted the cardboard like a jungle and made her room look like a jungle. I then made a native wanior and rigged it up so that when she opened the treasure chest full of gold, the warrior would swing down. I set up the mound and trick treasure. Then I retrieved some dry ice and put it in cups of water. That night I set up a video camera and watched her. She walked into her room and almost fainted. When she stopped shivering, she walked over to the treasure chest She opened it and SWOOOOSHI! The native warrior darted down from the ceiling. A piercing screech came from my sister. She ran down the stairs yelling. I had the whole thing on tape! John Massaro

Suddenly an enormous girt who looked about seven, eyed me and my cousin. It took a long time for her to decide which one of us she was going to pay for. Her decision was to buy both of us. I wished she’d just picked me. She took me and my cousin to her home in LA. The second day it was morning, and I had just woken up at about 6:30. I looked around the place. It was dark. My cousin was right beside me. We were in a backpack. There were erasers, pencils, paper clips, and a pencil sharpener. It was crowded but not that uncomfortable. An hour later we were moved into another place. It was a second grade classroom. The big girl pulled me out of her backpack and used her pencil to write her name on me. It felt like a needle cutting into me. Then she stuffed me with papers. I felt like I was going to throw up. AH through the year I became more and more ripped and beaten up. One sunny Monday morning I woke up restless. I prepared for school quickly because I had woken up forty minutes late. I had some dehydrated milk for breakfast. I jum ped on my bike and pedaled to school. W hen I arrived, I stormed into class just before the bell rang. My teacher, Mr. Gory, was sick, so we had a substitute teacher. She was a small pudgy little woman. She looked like a midget Roseanne Barr. I thought today would be a great day to play a joke. My friend and I planned a ruthless scheme. Our idea was to unscrew the teacher's chair. The time was planned out to unscrew the chair. My friend Jake was very sly. He alw ays got aw ay with everything because he had a very innocent face. Jake was going to do most of the work. At lunch recess we started on the job. It took a little over seven minutes. When we were done, we scrambled like the dickens. For the next two minutes we waited impatiently. W hen the bell rang, we arrived in the classroom and we saw a crowd of people around the chair. W e peered into the crowd and saw the "sub" on the ground in pain. W e couldn't believe it! W e didn't mean this to happen; we just meant to scare her a little. "Bang." I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. I felt like a bug was scraping my insides and filling it with guilt. I stepped right up to the "sub" and said, "I did it." In the next two seconds I noticed every face I had ever known was looking at me. Then Jake, with all his adm irable courage, stepped out and said, "I also did it." The next thing that happened was a hand led both of us to the principal's office. I couldn't believe what was happening to us. W e were getting M & Ms from the principal, but then he gave us a speech about honesty. When this was over, I had to apologize to the "sub." Well, that was just an average day in my life. by Daniel Steinhart
BABY POWDER By Cory Roberts When I was four years old I wasn't such a good girl. But my brother, Mark, on the other hand, was adorably cute, and people couldn't keep their hands off him. Even when we were in stores, women would come up and say how cute he was. So I decided to make him into an ugly white-headed kid. I got into deep, deep trouble. It was right after he had had a bath and was dressed. I ran into his room and said, "Sit on this stool." He looked up at me, as if he were trying to say, "What do you mean?" Finally, I sat him down on the stool. I took the baby powder off the changing table. As I poured the baby powder on his head, he asked, "What doin', dude?" Suddenly, my mom walked into his bedroom. She yelled, "What are you doing?" I said, "Making him ugly." She took a picture, even though she was mad. (I really think she thought it was funny, too.) She had to give him a bath all over again, and wash his clothes. To this day, you can sometimes smell baby powder when he walks by!

The Beautiful Beach
*-***■It was the day of Halloween and two very good friends, Mike and Tony, were getting ready to swim in the ocean. The salt in the ocean water glittered like tiny pieces of silver,The sun was like a round, blazing ball in the sky. The clouds were round and fluffy and the sky was bluer than a blueberry.Everything was so beautifulon that bright, sunny morning.Tony and Mike dove into the water and were playing in the waves when...Mike saw something that looked like a head of a shark! But how could a shark that big be in water that shallow? Then Mike noticed something else. Tony wasn't in the shallow water. He was where the sharks usually stay!!! Quickly, Mike signaled Tony to come back because of the shark. Tony got the message and started to swim back, fast! Then,Tony felt a strong currant tinder him. All of a sudden the shark jumped up and bit his leg off! Crimson red colored the water. Finally,in great pain, Tony was pulled from the bloody water by the Sea Patrol who, summoned by Mike, had sped to the scene. They spotted the shark and speared it. Tony was rushed to the hospital by an ambulance. He was still in shock from what hsd happened. What a Halloween!! He would have to spend five months in the hospital and the rest of his life in a wheelchair, but he was happy that he still had his life. A lot of people who had heard he had been taken to the hospital broght him Halloween candy. Everyone showed him so much kindness and he was happy he had all his friends and family there. But his most special friend of all... was Mike.

Katherine Mr. Linden's Library
11/27/89
In the town of Beaconville, Vermont, there was a small public library. The library had been supported by a Mr. Linden. It was officially called the Beaconville Library, but everybody, young and old, called it "Mr. Linden's Library." Mr. Linden was still alive and quite often visited to see how "his” library was doing. Mr. Linden had given Susie a silly juvenile caution when she checked out the book -th to You Vines. ‘ Do not read this book after midnight on A ll Hallow* Eve or all the nightmares contained in it will come true.” Susie, knowing Mr. Linden was a practical joker, did not listen to his warning. The book was due Novem ber first. Susie was a rath* twenty-eighth had not yet finished it. Death to You Vines was about a young girl who was monstrous vine. Susie, who had been waiting all summer for the book, did*not want to return it without finishing it. Staying up late every night to finish the book, Susie totally forept about the wai ’ It was about 1:15 in the morning after Halloween. Susie fell asleep. In her dreams, a vine suddenly started growing out of the p a »s . The vine kept growing, until it had become a rope of death. Susie woke up witn the monstrous thing entangled around her throat. She remembered the w arning but it w aj too late, Mr. Linden had known but how?
Sagittarius the Centaur
The ancient Greeks believed that centaurs lived in Thessalonica, one of their provinces. Centaurs were imagined to have the upper part of a man's body, and the rest was that of a horse w ith wings. Centaurs were highly educated. They were assigned to be the archery teachers to heroes such as Hercules. Other centaurs, such as Saggittarius, were equipped w ith bows and arrows and assigned to the defense of the country and to keep the peace. One day, Orion, the hunter, boasted that he could kill any beast. Scorpious, the scorpion, laughed and challenged Orion to a fight. Orion accepted, and, as he did, Scorpious bolted over to Orion and stung him with a lethal venom. Then Saggittarius flew over to Scorpious and aimed his arrow at the scorpion's heart so he wouldn't sting Orion again. One move from Scorpious into the December skies, the arrow w ill stop him. Today, in the July skies, Saggittarius is guarding Orion w ith his arrow s till pointing at the scorpion's heart.

K»<sten JANNIE, KIRSTEN, AND MUD One day when I was staying after school in kindergarten, Kirsten and I started a fight. We were just little tykes back then and didn’t know whether fights were supposed to be a very mad kind of sport or whether or not they were supposed to be fun. This was a question that lingered in our minds. We had started our fight about who knows what. Anyway we were fighting. We argued and argued until we started yelling. I was fed up with Kirsten. I couldn’t stand her anymore! So I picked up a plastic spoon, dug it into the ground, and, with mud oozing over the sides of the spoon, I flung it at her. She, of course, reacted. Her reaction, though, was crying. She cried and I cried. We both cried. It was pitiful, both of us standing there on that scorching hot day, bawling our brains out. Then at the same time we both turned and ran. We ran directly into Miss Root’s office. We told her our stories. She said she was sorry for us, but it wasn’t all that bad and we shouldn’t be crying. We left in high spirits, feeling our fight was more funny than nerve-wracking. That just goes to show: never cry over spilled mud. Jannie Dillon
BAD CHARACTERS All through the day, beginning at 8:00 in the early morning, we heard the unbearable, metallic sounds of the odious band playing monotonous tones on all sorts of obnoxious instruments. Apparently our affluent neighbors were having some sort of a party. Although I usually ended up in all sorts of trouble, from breaking two dozen windows to inspiring food fights at the dinner table, nothing would compare to what would happen next. I have always been known for my incredible temper when aroused by frustration. As the sun sank below the horizon, the delirious screams from the party sent a frenzy of wrath through my bones and I flew across the lawn straight toward the neighbors. I stopped at the neighbors' gate to ponder over whether I should or shouldn't, but as my frisky, frolicsome dog pounced on my black shirt, I proceeded. Hurling my slingshot and pouch of sharp pebbles over the barbed wire fence, I skillfully slipped my scarred hands in between the gnarled barbs. After lunging into the lush green grass and regaining my equipment, I proceeded to grovel along the surface of the grass. I then hid among the trees and bushes and loaded my slingshot. I released the tensed elastic and tagged the band-leader "right where the sun don't shine." He didn't react! How did he do it? A shiver of intense anger vibrated along my spine. I loaded the sling with ten rocks and aimed for the pesky audience. Injecting a few people with pebbles, I still wasn't satisfied. I hurled a heavy rock at a brand new Honda Accord and dug a gouge in its waxed finish. Suddenly two fierce German shepherds charged me. I attempted to scale the barbed fence, but one of the dogs dug his sharp teeth into my flesh. As pain surged through my body, I pulled myself over the barbs to safety. Although the thought of crimson blood filled my mind, an evil smile of satisfaction played upon my face.

Randy va s the kind o f person vh o could accept an incredibly dangerous and devilish dare, yet be perfectly calm and act as if it veren 't such a big deal to do stuff like picking locks at school. We did "Inka-Bink" and I became "It". I counted to sixty-tvo and opened m y eyes and looked around the house. Searching every nook and cranny, I finally found him. BAD CHARACTERS At the time it was tragic, but now that I look back on it I have to laugh. Although usually I was a kind, caring little kid, I always had an urge for pranks. I could easily spend all of English class thinking up practical jokes. One of my first pranks was on the little old lady who lived next door to me. I despised her. She was the meanest sourpuss in all the world. She always got me in trouble. I wanted revenge, so I found a paper bag, scurried to the backyard and picked up as many of my dog’s droppings as I could find, and put them in the bag. I waited ’til dark and dressed in black. Taking my bag with me, I ran next door. I whirled out my matchbox, put the bag on the doorstoop, and lit it on fire. I rang the door bell and dove into the bushes. The little old lady came out, saw the burning bag, and stamped out the flames. The sight was such a hilarious, pitiful, but satisfying event. I just had to chortle aloud. The old snag cursed and swore. 'I’ve got dog doo on my shoes!' Then she heard me giggling. She stormed to the bushes, came in hand, and began rummaging through the vegetation, wailing in belligerence as she went. I began to run, but the ravenous, overgrown thornbush clenched at my stomach, tore my jeans, and captured me, unwilling to let me go. The wretch approached me with a glowing red face. 'Get out of that shrub, you, you sadist," she ordered. Through my numerous attempts to escape, the thornbush gave way. She held me captive. After a blaring lecture that I hardly understood because it was so darn loud, that terrible unending feeling of guilt possessed me. I suppose she mentioned something about telling my parents because as soon as we stumbled out of the bushes that’s where we were headed. My parents were the worst. I’d be dead if they heard of this. I had to think quickly. She had a cane which she could not function without. She was so feeble she couldn’t even stand without support. My adrenalin pumping hard, I kicked her in the shin and grabbed her cane. Naturally she tumbled to the ground. I ran like the dickens. I hid in the bushes across the street. She was hysterically punching her chest, yelling and screaming like a child having a tantrum. Her voice quavered through the air, wailing, 'Life Alert, Life Alert, I’m down and I can’t get up! Some jerk has tripped me and taken my cane. He took my ancient cane. Curse him! Curse him!' After that I couldn’t hear what she said because she was mumbling to herself pure nonsense. Soon the police and the ambulance arrived. They threw her in the van and it sped off. One of the policemen spotted me. He ran after me, his billy club raised. 'Hey, you there, stop!' I kept running. He couldn’t keep up with me because he had all that stuff on his belt. I ran away... I never saw that old hag again. I saw my parents again, though, when I was sixteen. I never was busted. I’m glad of that, but I sure won’t ever, ever pull that prank again, never. Andrew Black

T h e Adventures o f T im T o e O n ce upon a time there were tw o old people sitting at a table in their kitchen. “ H o w do you like this? ” asked the old w om an as she held up the adorable b ab y bonnet she had crochet. “ It’s lovely, ** said the old man,w but it w o u ld be so nice i f it w ere fo r a child o f our ow n. ” T he old couple wanted a child dearly but never had any so the w om an spent her free time m aking clothes fo r the newest b a b y in town. “ I know , ” replied the old wom an. “ I w o u ld love a son, even i f he w ere no larger than m y b ig toe. ” A s the old w om an said this, a peal o f silvery laughter w as heard outside the front w in d o w . “ C om e, w ife, that w a s n ’t a bird, ” stated the old man as he locked the w in d o w s and doors o f their W ashington D .C . condo. In the morning w hen the couple aw oke, the o ld lady noticed a tiny, tiny baby next to her on her p illo w . H e had a curly crop o f golden hair, and he lay there laughing as i f someone w ere tickling him. It w as am azing; he w as exactly the size o f her b ig toe. T h e old w o m an named him T im and she m ade him a cradle out o f an old sneaker and knitted him clothes out o f horse hair with needles. O v e r the years he gre w into a jo lly , m ischievous boy. O ne day the old man w a s going to catch som e fish for an elegant restaurant next to the Pentagon. T im begged to g o with his father. A fter a fe w hours o f his beggin g, the tw o o f them went out onto the Chesapeake B a y in a b o a t T h e old man w as not used to having T im with him but soon forgot all about him. A s the evening w o re on, the old man rem em bered T im and w a s go in g to take him home. A lthough he looked and looked, T im w as nowhere to be seen. H e finally concluded that poor T im must have been sw allo w ed by a fish. H e w a s exactly right. T im had teetered along the boat rail fo r som e time, but w h en the boat took a sharp turn little T im fell into the ocean. W h a t the o ld man did n ’t kn ow w as that as soon as T im fell into the water, a gigantic fish sw allo w ed him up, and the old man had caught that very fish and given it to the President on his w a y to the restaurant W h e n the o ld man arrived hom e without Tim , the old w om an w as devastated and trudged up the stairs to bed. A t that moment the President cut open the steamed fish and Tim , w h o had fallen asleep, w o k e up in a very unpleasant w a y ( on the President’s f o r k ). T im aroused immediately and did a little dance. T h e First L a d y w a s especially pleased and insisted that he stay with them. F o r a long time T im w as the happiest bo y in the United States, eating with d o lls ’ silver and sleeping in a d o ll’ s bed. But then, his n e w lifestyle lost its glamour, and he g re w sick o f people peeking in his room w henever they pleased. H e w as just about to tell the First L a d y w hen he heard a conversation com ing from the President’s suite.
“ Dear, T im ’s antics are getting dull, and sometimes he refuses to perform ” stated the First Lady. “ I know, honey, ” replied the President, “ but what can w e do? ” I have an idea!
screeched the First Lady. u W e could grant him one wish
and giv e him to some country folk with the prom ise that w e w o u ld provide fo r his needs for the rest o f his life. ” Tim had been listening to all this and n ow popped o u t , explaining that his w ish w as to g o home to his parents. The President and First L a d y w ere delighted and sent him o ff that evening on his riding mouse with a needle sw ord and a sack o f gold. W h e n little T im arrived home, his parents w ere exuberant, and they lived happily ever after.

RAT FINK One dark and stormy Saturday n i g h t , I f e l l a s l e e p a l i t t l e nervous because of the r a i n c r a s h i n g a g a i n s t the r o o f . I was rudel y awakened at 4:20 A.M when our alarm went o f f with a loud s h r i e k . Someone was in the house! We turned o f f the alarm and w a it e d to see i f it would go o f f a g a i n . Just then a huge mongrel of a r a t dashed in. It looked at me and my pa re nt s and ran out a g a i n . It had ugly y e l l o w t ee t h , beady red eyes, course spiny h a i r , and a long bony t a i l . I jumped o f f the bed and raced a f t e r him. I saw him g a l l o p i n g in the h a ll w a y . I changed my mind, however, because I was too s c a re d , and I ran back into the s a f e t y of my p a r e n t s ' bedroom. Just then I heard a funny noise and I jumped. "Mom, I heard the fro nt door shake and the lock unlock. What i s it?" I que sti on ed. " I t ' s the p o l i c e ; I t o l d you t h a t . S i t s t i l l u n t i l the p o l i c e come in, and c l o s e the d o o r , " s h e r e p l i e d . I arose and walked to the window. I saw a couple of policemen and German Shepherds s n i f f i n g around the house to see i f a man r e a l l y was t r y i n g to break in. I r ec og n i ze d the lady policeman because she was the one who had helped us with our "cat c r i s i s " . She t o l d us that three of the doors were ^ opened. "Somebody might have t r i e d to break in, but none of your*' g r a s s looks l i k e someone ran through i t . " "Did you see any r a t s in the hallway?" I asked. " W e l l , I think we saw it running a c r o s s the c u r t a i n . Then it s l i d o f f i t , and now h e ' s in the ha llway somewhere," s a i d the policeman in the de e pe s t, most manly v oi c e I ever heard. A f t e r the p o l i c e l e f t , we d i s c o v e r e d the r a t in the bathroom, s c r a t c h i n g on the shower door. Dad was st a nd in g o u ts id e the door w a i t i n g to see i f it would r e t u r n . I f i t did he would smash i t ' s head. Suddenly my mom screamed. "What happened?" I asked. " I t ran over my f o o t . " She opened the door and out ran the r a t a g a i n . My r e a c t i o n to the beast c h ar g in g me was to kick it and run back to the door. Again it charged me!! This time I kicked i t again and the r a t went f l y i n g a c r o s s the room and ran under the bed. "Ahahaha" it c r i ^ d in p a i n . The poor t hin g I thought. While the r a t was under the bed, my mom and dad t r i e d to sc a re i t out with brooms. They c o u l d n ' t , so we l e f t the o u ts id e door open and in a couple of hours it l e f t , limping and b l e e d i n g . I f e l t s o r t of s o r r y f o r I t .

LA ST W ILL A N D T E S T A M E N T O F T H E S IX T H G R A D E I, SARAH ANISMAN, leave my hypemess to Kristin Hepper, my very messy desk to Audra Gilsing because hers is so clean it’s pathetic. My seriousness I leave to Andrea Marshall. To all three of them, I leave all my thoughtful teachers. I leave my straight hair to Madame because she needs straight hair. Last of all, I leave all my colds and flus to Mrs. Docter, because she never, ever gets sick at all.
I, BOBBY BEAVER, leave my hymnal to Michael Hassen in kindergarten so he can hold it all he wants. I also vow to leave my tacky uniform to Blake Wollenberg in first grade so he may suffer in it for five more years.
I, ANDREW BLACK, bequeath my motorcycle gloves to Michael Zapped. They are for him to wear when someone is giving him a piggyback ride so he doesn’t kill him. To Elizabeth Rowen I bequeath my motorcycle for she is the toughest girl in the school. To Champ Roth I bequeath my electric guitar for no significant reason, just because he and I have kept each other out of trouble. Lastly, to my sister, who has already graduated, I bequeath all my F papers, for she needs to refresh her memory on what one looks like.
I, the one and only MICHAEL BOSTOCK, leave my sharp shears to Kimmy Morris in the fourth grade. I also bequeath my mechanical pencils to Champ Roth in fifth grade. I leave my happy personality to Mrs. A.
I, SUSANNA COX, dedicate my smile to Katie Dillon. To Zach Trailer in the fourth grade I give my neat hand writing because he desperately needs it. To Steph Trailer I leave my dry, gross hair because I need her decent hair. I give my shyness to Madame Miller
I, JANNIE DILLON ie and Cina Loarie. To Katie Searby I lea _ my ability to be quiet when it is necessary. I leave my horrible sports ability to Zach Trailer (he is too good at sports). Last but certainly not least, I leave my wonderful memories of P.B.S. to Madam e Miller and Mrs. Docter. I don’t know how they could stand a whole year with us, but for this I am truly grateful.
Cs' I, the sm art-and-intelligent but very short SHANE DIZON, hearby state my last will. My spelling abilities are left to Quinn Moran in hopes of him winning the school spelling bee. I leave my books to go with Mrs. Doss’s bookmarks. I leave my math ingenuity to Mike Hood, my clay pot to Clayton, and line set ' ------------grade. My memories go to anyone who wants them.
I, KATHERINE DOSS, dedicate my seriousness to Madam e Miller because she is ALWAYS so funny. To Mrs. Doss, I leave my hair because she so desperately needs it. Last but not least, I leave my smile to Mrs. Docter.

I leave my wild ability to talk out in class to David Lipa in the nursery school. I leave my desk and chair, including the stale com nuts to Stewart in the fifth grade. I leave my hair to Stan and my violent mind to Mme. Miller. Last but not least, I leave my unkindness to nature to Mrs. Docter. ______

To Blake in first grade, I leave my interesting laugh, and last but not least, I leave my great memories to the teachers and everybody at P.B.S.J
I, KATHERINE YORKE LOARIE, of sound mind and body, hearby issue my last Will and Testam ent. To my sister Cina, I will my semi-quietness so she may shut that big mouth of hers. To Kaitlin Beaver I will my asthma to calm her down a bit. To Sarah Myers I will my cursed pencils to do a job on her ever-so-neat handwriting. To Kimmy Morris I leave my straight hair.
