Martinique tops Aruba for CAZOVA Championship ticket CHEM TRENELLE, RIVIERE SALEE, MARTINIQUE, OCTOBER 23, 2016: Team captain David Le Faivre led all scorers as host Martinique topped Aruba in straight sets (3-0) in their Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA)/FIVB World Championship Qualifier Men Group A qualifier. With the 25-19, 25-22, 25-21 win, which came after one hour and 41 minutes, Martinique finished with a 1-1 record for second spot behind Bahamas (2-0) while Aruba ended winless (0-2) at the Palais Des Sports Riviere Salee. Le Faivre ended with 13 points while Rodrigue Larcher added 11, Gregory Alpha eight and Yoann Breleur, seven in the win for Martinique which became the sixth team to qualify to the CAZOVA Championships in Trinidad and Tobago next year. For Aruba, Fransua Angela had a team-high 12 points and his brother Dwayne Angela got nine while the pair of Jonathan Jones and Jorrik Roelofsen added six apiece in their team’s second loss on the day, after a similar 0-3 defeat at the hands of the Bahamians in the morning session. Speaking after the loss, Aruba captain, Elmerlindos Robles De Medina said he was very proud and disappointed at the same time "Tonight we made it tough for Martinique and in each of the sets we were very close and had leads, but at the crucial points we did not execute. I believe that not having a stronger bench also played a part in us not winning the match.” Le Faivre, said, "After losing to Bahamas we found ourselves in a position that we had to win. We devised a strategy from what we saw of Aruba in its first match and came out and did our best, which was good enough.” Daan Kleinbussink, coach of Aruba echoed the views of his captain and said he was happy for the effort made by his players considering the circumstances. Eddy Erialc, Martinique's coach said he was delighted that his players stepped up and won the match to advance to the next stage of the tournament which also serves as World qualifiers. In Trinidad and Tobago, Bahamas as Group A winners will join a Pool E line-up comprising of automatic qualifiers Barbados, Group C winners Haiti and the second placed team from the third and final Round One Pool B qualifiers which will take place in Suriname from October 28-31, involving the host country, Jamaica, Guadeloupe, and Turks & Caicos. Martinique as the second placed team in Pool A joins top ranked nation and two-time reigning CAZOVA champions Trinidad and Tobago, Curacao and the runner-up from Pool C. The eight-team final will the top two teams overall will again qualify to the next round of FIVB World Championship qualification while crowning the eventual champions of CAZOVA. At the NORCECA Continental, the CAZOVA duo will join the USA, Cuba, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico along with two from Central America and two from the Eastern Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (ECVA) in the top-12 qualification process to determine the eventual qualifiers to the World Championships.
